Who's here in 2020 because of school?
Paying so much module fees to learn something, and then they just tell you to go watch a documentary, fuck this shit
zoraiz sibtain i have to do a test and write notes on this garbage ☹️😤
Mincia i wish i could just copy past the damn notes from someone else because this a waste of time
yep teacher said it was a 1:35 min video and I opened it and it was a hour and 35 min video
Me because I am teaching a history of media!
Thanks for this video this helps to understand the advertisement revolution from ad1800 to 2000. Thank you from Nepal
Thanks for the upload.
Any Noam Chomsky fans here?
JRGJRG 😭😭😭😭😭
Slightly better version here with the garbage beginning around 35:47 not quite so bad:
vimeo.com/95813029
It's also easy to download mp4 or .mov versions. The mp4 is much smaller and just as good as the other.
I blame my media teacher for bring me here
school got me here
Same
there were no ads on this video
SolidworksTutorials how soon get donibgbtť
But the whole video is ads
@@vheahe8262 Ahaha
I got a pre-roll ad :(
Nothing is more narccisist than believing someone cares about you...very good
HAHAH
I loved that
I know right. That was one of the first lines I picked up on that really stuck with me
ads are a waste of time. If I see an ad I make sure not to buy that product, in fact I will look for the competition and buy that one instead. Screw em.
That behaivor only confirm that ad's work.
can someone give me a summary on this video? Need it for my English paper
How about now?
i believe that 60% of all advertising is waste of time how many ads do you see but your not going to respond or buy their product?
like when men watch sports why do they run ads for women's products because a woman might be watching not that she is
but she might be watching one research group says consumers respond to ads that are repeated over and over i say bull shit i buy a product that meets a need or something i like . offensive ads are like geico auto insurance or ads for prescription meds it used the ad for prilosec now its ozempic meds for diabetes this add is droned into my head every time
i watch tv i hate that add i record my tv shows on the dvr then play back the recording so that i don't have to watch those damn adds if i could be standing in some corp office and scream at the person(s) that pays the bills for these adds it would make my day i am not a student i am a consumer who hates repetitive advertising i get dozens of subscription offers for magazines i don't want because they want to sell advertising the last thing i want to do is look at more ads then i do . keep this in mind if your going to advertise a product . who are trying to sell your product to ? and is the add working for you if not you need find out why offer coupons that seeks consumer feedback if you know what your customer wants you Tayler your adds to customer needs advertising agencies are greedy don't trust an add salesman to tell you the truth they want your business more than they care about moving your product to consumers trust your customer to give you the truth about what they want in your product
@@stevenherrold5955 ua-cam.com/video/8LqqVfPduTs/v-deo.html i think this explains what you don’t understand
Thank you for posting this. I only have it on VHS and it is so useful in the classroom.

Finally, everything I hate in one place :)
The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. -Edward Bernays
Sadly i think this is right man
Sadly i think this is right man
Back when the history channel was worth a damn
ur telling me i have to pay money for school to watch this video and write an essay on it, man wtf
Yes
i am studying international politics, but branding and advertising is one of the most fascinating things to me, has been for a long time, thank you for the upload
Some of the video was horrible quality.
All my life, I've seen a lot of vintage cars on the road. I have never ever seen a Ford Edsel in person.
Dick Cavett's soothing, reasonable voice makes advertising a rather light-hearted affair. See Consuming Kids ua-cam.com/video/8sa5rLLoMcA/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/44I3pMouCnM/v-deo.html for a far more realistic and sinister history of advertising.
I don't have cable TV and I use an ad blocker here so I only watch the best Super Bowl or Europe's Best ads for example and only when I feel like it but I have to admit that on the creative side these people work very hard and I am often impressed by their brilliant ideas and irreverent sense of humour, the entertainment factor is vital, that's why I personally disagree with political and pharmaceutical ads, where's the fun? WAZZAAAAAA!
Thank you for the film, rather well made and informative.
“But the goal of advertising is not to be liked, to entertain, or to win advertising awards; it is to sell products. The advertiser, if he is smart, doesn’t care whether people like his commercials or are entertained or amused by them. If they are, fine. But commercials are a means to an end, and the end is increased sales-and profits-for the advertiser.”
“Humorous ads are troubling because you have to create a link to the product and its benefit. Often, people remember a funny ad but they don’t remember the product.
-Richard Kirshenbaum, Co-Chairman, Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners”
“Ads are not written to entertain. When they do, these entertainment seekers are little likely to be the people whom you want. This is one of the greatest advertising faults. Ad writers abandon their parts. They forget they are salesmen and try to be performers. Instead of sales, they seek applause.
-Claude Hopkins, Scientific Advertising (Bell Publishing, 1920)
”
damn, we use soap, shampoo and toilet paper because of advertising . its so fascinating to me ...
Checking in from Intro to Mass Media class. advertising is funny, we all hate it but it's at the fabric of our culture.
is that dick cavett narrating?! if so cool! and did the Media Education Foundation/Sut Jhally produce this?
Yes, that's him.
gmaureen haha! ohh cool, thought I recognized that voice of his :)
Yuri muckraker To me, his voice is very distinctive. He speaks kind of slow and deliberate, pronouncing every word clearly.
gmaureen right on. I heard he was having another show. has he written many books actually?
Coca Cola paid me and many people to walk around tourist locations drinking cans of coke.
