    I know a amazing vet who knows about exotic animals a lot , she told me that the sent glands do not need cleaning 🤷‍♀️ she has a bunny too.. But i did clean them with my previous bunny, not with present ones.

      My vet said the same thing when I asked after seeing one of Haley's videos. I do check them every so often since seeing that video but I've never seen any crusties so I don't worry about it so much. Probably something that's more necessary in senior rabbits, though.

    • @101rabbits

      If they are nice and smooth and don’t have anything crusty it isn’t a huge deal. For Lulu she can not groom herself and hers will get crusted shut which is not good. The other two also had a bit of crusty stuff so I cleaned them as well. I do not clean them every single month though. More like every few months. Lulu’s I will be cleaning more often though as she can not do it herself

    • @Sad_Soul101
      @Sad_Soul101 5 років тому +2

      I'll still look them up of course, but haven't needed to clean 😊 my previous bunny had crusties even when he wasn't old, but all bunnies are different. Don't know if the reason for that was that he was stepped on as a little bunny, my boyfriend accidentally stepped on his head and his jaw was crushed on the other side and cut straight at the middle.. He survived, we fed him with a syringe 7-8 weeks and after that he had struggle to eat hay, so we crushed some hayblocks and pellets for years for him💖 Last few months were hard, because he was losing teeth, they just dropped off 😢 Finally we decided to let him go, he was 6 years old 💔 But yeah the jaw wasn't at line anymore so he needed to go to vet VERY often, because of teeth spikes.. we had to clean his butt and glands quite often, wonder if he could not do that for himself 🤔😢

    But he hate being touch anywhere else than between the eyes, so pretty much everything is hard when related to his care...

    Hi Hayley, I have just found your channel and wow its amazing. Before today I had no idea that rabbits belong in houses not gardens. It had never occurred to me that there is actually something wrong with keeping rabbits in small cages. My rabbit Blossom is three and a half and has been living in large hutches most of her life. She stayed in the house when she was a baby and I was 11. She destroyed everything and petrified my cats 😂 so she had to go outside. I am so glad i looked up bunny grooming and found your channel otherwise I would of never known what I am doing was wrong. Luckily my parents are having an extra floor built on our home so we are swapping rooms and getting them decorated anyway so I can bunny proof and make everything bunny safe in my new bedroom. I just need to approach my parents and tell them my idea 😬 I hope they say yes. I am hoping to have Blossom semi free roaming in my room until I know everything is safe for her and I won't come back to a destroyed room! She will be in other parts of the house like the kitchen and the den ( our huge garage that is now like a basement ) when I can watch her however they won't be bunny proofed so I'll have to be careful! Wish me luck and keep doing what your doing as it is amazing! Love Ella

      I’d get her spayed if she isn’t already. It’s extremely important for her health as females have a 85% chance of developing reproductive cancer. It also helps a lot with destructive behavior!

      It's easy to know what is good for your pet. Just ask ypurself, Would I be happy living in a small cage looking at the same scene everyday? What do rabbits do in the wild? They hop high and they run. Was your rabbit able to do that? (no, no, she was not) Thank god you are woke know

    • @cedricpomerleau5586
      @cedricpomerleau5586 4 роки тому

      I was able to rabbit proof my whole appartement pretty easily. Just put any small object and small cables (bigger ones seems fine) away from them, and anything that is dangerous to touch/bites. But don’t forget they can jump high, mine get on my bed easily. So even some places that look safes aren’t.
      Oh and if he/she humps, don’t put any cloths on the ground. Even when neutered / sprayed they can do it.
      At first I was worried about letting him free when I wasn’t home, but now I do it often. I just need to make him stop biting the poor Roomba. It’s here to clean up his mess, can’t he just leave it alone ? 😅

Luckily she didn't get hurt! But how can I safely transport her to a counter (or something similar) and safely clip her nails?

    I have NEVER cut my rabbits while cutting their nails. I never try to cut really short I always cut their nails more of a medium length to make sure I don’t even have a chance of cutting too far. Especially since one of my rabbits has pitch black nails.
    I’ve also never have cleaned their scent glands. I don’t think it’s necessary for healthy rabbits. I’m sure it’s necessary for those who can’t groom themselves. And I don’t deshed them monthly I only brush out their fur when it’s their shed season (I have 2 dwarfs they don’t shed all the time) but I’m sure brushing their fur just helps prevent them from eating too much of it.

      My rabbits are also this way. I usually sit on the floor with my legs extended out, i place them on the floor between my legs and put a towel over there heads making sure they're eyes are covered, ( Bunnies usually feel safer in a dark area ). I then just lean over and spread there nails out one by one. The only one i really struggle with is my black one because he has black nails but i just don't trim his down super short. I find this works for my rabbits.

      lowbugethamilton the best way I do it for my rabbits is I hold them down on a towel on a table and a sit at a chair, I use my left hand to hold them under the chest and I pull them into my arm pit area of my left side and I use my right hand to clip.
      But I would just practice holding them down to see what relaxes your rabbits the most. It might help if you give them a treat to munch on like lettuce

      101 is a college course, like English 101. So, 101 Rabbits means all the info you need to take care of your rabbit!
