Good to know you service the i4. Delighted by my 35 and no range anxiety on first trip from London to Berwick on Tweed and return. Only remember it is long at nearly 4.8m.
Thank you Martin for the reply to my question… A couple of months ago I testdrove one ed40 and really loved it. Interior, exterior, powertrain, confort, onboard tech, all great but here in Portugal the price of that car was almost 75k€. It was loaded with extras but that’s no excuse. Keep up the great work and keep them videos coming.
I’ve driven both for about 3 days each. I loved the i3. The i4 is very competent, but even though it is more powerful and faster 0-60, it doesn’t have that same nippy feel of a car you can throw around in traffic like the i3. Obviously a supreme cruiser though, and the speed of fast charging I experienced would be fabulous on road trips.
I drove one recently as a rental. It was very comfortable and competent, but it did feel a lot heavier around bends than my own 3 Series Touring. One thing I would mention is that even though the door windows are frameless, the rear windows do not wind down all the way to the bottom. Also, the cargo area is not as big as one might expect from the exterior size of the car. * I think it’s 470 liters.
I have owned a Mini Countryman S E Sport L3 since April and love the clever BMW “smart” adaptive cruise control that will vary the distance to the vehicle front depending on the type of road - ie bigger distance on fast roads/motorways and closer on slower roads and also the adaptive regen although on motorways I just use D rather than B mode everywhere else I drive in adaptive B mode.
Hi Martin, reckon you should do Kyle Conner road trips here in the UK as many of us would subscribe and enjoy such an informative and insightful journey. Love the i4 and given that my wife now drives my i3s, can see myself getting one in a year or two. The 18 inch wheels make for a better cruiser and would be my preference. Great review as ever Geoff
Interesting decision of BMW for their electric cars to omit electric seats & memory. Does the i4 have a heated steering wheel? If not It probably doesn't have a hud or headlight washers (option package not selected). I am used to the manual seats in our i3 but in winter I wish it had a heated steering wheel. I am reminded of what I am missing when I drive our regular gas powered x5 and 3 series. Luis Rossman's rant on BMWs "heated seats as a subscription" will always have a place in my heart.
Hello from Saskatchewan - ours has a heated steering wheel, electric seats and memory and hud but they were part of a package. no headlight washer which I'm good with but do wish it had a radar washers and rear camera washer. Slush has once affected our assited driving and the back up camera is always dirty in snow and slush. All in all though, super happy with this car. We had the first one in the prairie provinces. Glad we bought when we did because as configured, it is a full 20 000 more now than when we bought it. M50 with almost all the options.
Test drove the i4 and i5. I found the i5 so much more comfortable and refined, but pricier. Can the i4 be configured with more comfortable seats and suspension? I’m an older driver, so need more comfort :)
The more comfortable options on the i4 come standard-- you pay extra for the stiffer rear suspension and grippy seats. The i4 is supposed to be the more zippy, sporty ride while the i5 is the more comfortable carriage.
The "adaptive" setting which almost works like adaptive cruise control where the car automatically applies regen if there is a vehicle detected ahead but coasts if the road is clear.
Thanks - I have one of these - its fabulous! I general use adaptive and select “B” when in traffic as it provides one pedal driving. I regularly get over 4 m/kWh
So what’s it to be? i4, Tesla Model 3 SM or Polestar 2 SM? All have their attributes and downsides but I guess in the end it comes down to which car best meets your preferences and budget. I’m afraid despite it obviously being a well engineered and built car I just couldn’t live with the looks of the BMW.

Nice car and used prices are starting to drop below £30k
Great review as always.

Hello from Arizona, USA. I have an i3s but sense an i4 in my future. Thanks for the review!

Very good points!
Love your videos ❤

Pekné videa robíš😊
What do you think of the drive 35
do you know if they are planning a 2026 model refresh for i4?
Great car but went for the Polestar 2 in the end.
Hate the blue accents and the gear tunnel … huge step back from the i3.
Agreed , very strange decision from bmw
My i4 came with adaptive cruise included 🤔

What regen setting did you use for your trip

Interesting review. Trying to decide what EV to get. Helpful
Glad you found it useful!
It’s a nice car 👍
Wow. A BMW being good value?!
Bmw i4 is one of the fastest electric car from bmw.
