What an invigorating performance of this delightful work! Maestro Munch delivers every bit of the joy, excitement and nostalgia in this 1958 recording from the early days of stereo recording. Nicole Henriot-Schweitzer, pianist, is a excellent complement to Munch's vision for performing this symphonic tone poem. I have played this music on numerous road trips through the mountains in New York State and it fits so perfectly!
A wonderful score. It’s a pity that d’Indy’s music has almost completely disappeared from the concert stage.

None of the classical radio station (KUSC, WFMT, BBC3) play this anymore. Not just this recording, the music. The Franck d-minor, yes. Ad nausium. But not this. Nothing of d'Indy. I do not know why. Except in KUSC's case: to much of an intellectual challenge for Los Angeles/Hollywood listeners.
It's a dandy symphony!
It sounds as though she is playing a hammerklavier, at least some of the time. Just remarkin’.
