@@Mr_G87 this only works for a few food products. Jam for example can have a mold part and you can just generously scoop that out and eat the rest of the jam.

@@TheWretchedEgg12 it depends, jam isn't solid food, so if you manipulate that in any manner there's a chance to spread some of those colonies. Mold itself change the surface of solid foods and it facilitates the absorption of humidity and it substantially changes the way it interacts in the environment. Also some molds produce mycotoxins that are stable ans may survive the destruction of the colonies. Such is the case with cereals. So don't eat stuff that looks too fancy. If a jam has mold in it it's also old due to the chemical composition of the jam, that does not facilitate the fast growth of said colonies.
Fun fact, cheese product despite being "not-real cheese" contains preservatives to prevent mold from growing during the 3 to 8 moth shipping and handling timeframe, thats the real reason it says "cheese product" instead of cheese, because natural cheese molds very easily.
Yeah, I've had to throw away a lot of real cheese over the years. At least in my experience, the expiration dates on real cheese are accurate and way sooner. (Honestly, I try to avoid purchasing "real cheese" in general, because I end up wasting it. Exception is brie.)
It's pretty much the same reason why the "Pink Sauce" had a terrible release among poor shipping and packaging. Preservatives are questionable at best, but they are essential for extended shelf life to maximize sales and prevent food born pathogens like mold and bacteria.
Some other guy in the comments said you can cut it away from a block of cheese. Do not risk eating any moldy food because it's compromised, unless you wanna end up like my aunt cutting away moldy part of bread and making a sandwich, later to throw it all up and be sick for a week. 😂
@@CrimsonNirnrootAddict666 Depends on the cheese. If it is a "hard cheese", then it is very difficult for the mold to penetrate properly and you would "probably" be safe cutting the offending area away. Any other cheese that isn't basically rock hard though is a definite no-no.

It is much more difficult for mould to penetrate hard cheeses like a sharp cheddar but mould is insanely good at growing even with scarce resources. Mould is much more prolific than people believe (the reason why it’s harder to spread is the lack of moisture, oxygen is dissolved in alot of our water and mould absorbs it out feeding it and allowing spread. That’s also why by the time you see mould on a softer cheese the whole thing has to go, it’s been fully infected for a while and it’s the exact same with bread you see something the whole loaf is laced with mould)
@CrimsonNirnrootAddict666 you can cut mold off hard food. The issue is soft food. That's cus mold can easily spread inside soft food rather than hard food

@@Astrothunder_ Hi, food scientist in-school here. It's the responsibility of the company to regularly test their product, equipment, and facilities for pretty much any microbial problem. In that regard the company is supposed to produce and test their product to ensure they aren't allowing spores, molds, yeasts, etc. to thrive. You basically take a sample, mix it with bacteria food, let it grow then let it grow on various media to get characteristics which confirm or deny the species and strain. After a problem happens, the facility gets tested to find out where it comes from, called Vectoring. You can find out the density of microbes on-location similar to how we test food products. In addition to that, FDA is going to be recording all reported cases, hospitalizations, and location to put together an outbreak map. If you're ever bored and wanna know what's currently being recalled and what outbreaks are happening, FoodNet is a great source

Pretty sure that's why gatorade has so much sugar, to cover up the salty taste. I've heard that some people prefer the salty taste when they've just sweat a lot, but I think kids especially wouldn't like it, so gatorade is a good way to ensure your kids don't get dehydrated in sports.
What people that say “cheese is mold”forget is that people like me who are allergic to penicillin, and related medicines, CANNOT eat blue cheese SPECIFICALLY. @@boogerhead199 yes that’s what I’m saying. My point is people forget that others are allergic and have to avoid blue cheese. Comparing moldy mozzarella to blue cheese is not equivalent
I am in the same boat. Had an allergic reaction as a kid to Penicillin. Not sure how much mold I would have to consume for it to become deadly, but I don't want to test to find out lol.
Even then, mozzarella is one of the cheeses (cream cheese and cottage cheese as well) that needs to be thrown out because the mold is able to penetrate deeper. Especially throw it out when it's shredded and moldy.

Don't pity that pink sauce lady, she didn't have an attorney check the agreement (which I can almost definitely say was a licensing agreement, not her "getting her own company" like she likes to say) and after the brand deal was made, all she had to do was be a spokesperson for it and get paid, but she failed at that (due to being dumb or on purpose, you decide). The fact she thought that garbage could be shipped and didn't know what the F in FDA meant gives enough discredit to not deserve any pity. She thought she'd be getting all the money from her brilliant idea and Dave's Food (the company she sold it to) would buy her anything she wanted as long as she put it down as 'influencer/promoter expenses', like a sugar daddy. She then flipped out when they said she needed to do work and the extra money they gave her as a forward payment because she said she needed it for her children would be taken out of her future payment and tried to actively sabotage sales. They gave her a really good deal because they wanted to help a businesswoman just starting out but it turned out she was only a grifter trying to do as little work as possible. She could have made quite a bit just as a spokesperson/promoter for the company on how they helped make her product successful even if she didn't want to do anything intensive but she just wanted to snapchat the parties she was throwing because she thought the company was going to give her endless millions. $10,000 boots aren't a necessary business expense.

German food scientist here; there are several reason why there could be mold on the cheese. First of all; the product is not pasteurized in any way, cheese would disintegrate/melt, one of the reasons why processed cheese is used by Mondelez(lunchable). Its not like big cooperation are just pure evil, there are reasons why they use certain ingredients. But besides of that, a major reason for mold/ any food spoilage is (re)contamination with microbes, that's why food is usually sealed, but if the seal is broken or not done correctly bacteria or spores can get onto the food and grow. Its quite likely that the sealing machine is not operated correctly and seal is not as tight as supposed to, and can break/ or is broken from the beginning. Its also quite common that any product can be in between the packaging and the lid, which prevents the seal to be tight. All those are "normal" issues with can can happen, without any harmful intentions. However; Here in Europe, not sure how it is done in the USA, the guy who sells it is responsible for any issue. One of the reason why a lot of shops hesitate to sell Items over the Best before date, even though they would be safe to consume. The best before date is btw. just a date set by the manufacture, without any regulation, its just an estimation on how long the item meets the quality exceptions of the manufacturer. So legally Lunchly would not be accountable(if they were sold in Europe) however EVERY Grocery store/chain stop selling them, out of fear for legal caution, and they would hesitate to buy lunchy again due to their losses. I know out of personal experience, within the food industry, how important shelf stability and shelf life of a product is for retailers, because they don't wanna lose money by throwing out unsold food.

Wow, that lunch doesn't look very well sealed! As someone who works in plastics manufacturing, I can tell you it needs a better seal to keep oxygen out. We use special barriers in food packaging to prevent spoilage, like EVOH. It's like a super-thin layer that stops air from getting in. Sure, some of these materials are harder to recycle, but keeping food fresh and safe is important! Maybe Lunchly could look into better packaging options.

According to the stock person at my local Giant, these "Lunchly" don't have the preservatives that other packed snacks do. They threw out a whole shipment of these, because they rotted in under a week.
Sounds about right tbh, using better and more natural ingredients is great. But you have to be smart about it. You can't ship stuff like this without seeing potential issues

Mold contaminants and mycotoxins are in basically everything. Fungi are ubiquitous, and 99.9% of the time it’s not going to cause an issue. The issue here is that there is consistent mold growth, which is usually indicative of a bigger problem. If the package was not sealed correctly, you can get listeria, which can kill you.

as someone with an eating disorder, advertising less calories definitely would have tricked me which is definitely there entire goal. children learning to meet health choices based on advertising instead of in schools and from families. Little kids are being told to worry about their calorie counts and their electrolytes as if that's a perfectly normal and healthy thing for a child to be worried about
So you're saying that this could result in kids getting eating disorders? Or did I read it wrong?
Kids should get educated. Just not by ads. Yes, calories are important. And kids NEED them. They move around a LOT, they are GROWING. But unfortunately most parents don't care about educating their kids since they themselves aren't educated about it. Kids are being fed the same trash their parents eat. And that's how the US ended up having an obesity problem. It's not just "calories bad". Sugar and saturated fat play a much bigger role. They're being hidden inside of your food just to get you hooked. But since taking it away ruins sales, they're trying to pretend like what's important is calories and electrolytes...
@@Litten-sb7eg giving a kid lunchly, no. advertising lunchly as a diet product that is important to children, telling children to be concerned about counting their calories, and encouraging children to inherently pursue lower calorie options are a lot more of the issue I have a problem with. these people don't have a soul, they are trying to monetize every second of a child's existence.
@@twiphe4375 It's not just that people aren't educated, unhealthy diets tend to be cheaper, more convenient, and are the only options in a lot of places. food deserts are real and a nightmare.

Regularly consuming moldy food increases risk of cancer as mold also contains cancer causing carcinogens. Even if mold is only visible on one food compartment, the rest of the non visibly moldy compartments may still be contaminated with mold spores. Do not consume lunchly until this issue is resolved or you may get cancer. I am a full grown adult who would eat lunchables on my lunch break when I worked at an amazon facility and there was no shame in doing so. Its a great snack for all ages.

DO NOT pull a, "did your own research"... nearly everything can lead to cancer or can be caused by cancer, because "cancer" is any divergent abnormal growth that's not showing signs of self-refulation... The thing with mould is that by the time you can see it, it has already become established in the underlying material. I think some foods are flushed with nitrogen when they are packed to help stop the problems, but yes if it is 1 in 22 packs that are visibly mouldy, then there's some possibility at least that the mould in present in other packs but not visible yet.

Hard to tell because I don't want to bother driving an hour to go grab a lunchly. But it seems like the shredded cheese wasn't coated in potato starch after it was shredded. What it does, besides preventing the cheese from clumping, is that it also prevents the cheese from molding for a long while.
Electrolytes are salt basically. 400mg of Salt is a lot of salt for what is basically an LCMs.
Ironically Prime is advertised as having less sodium than leading brands, which is the most important electrolyte. Also, why the fuck do kids need 400mg of electrolytes.
You only really need (added) electrolytes if you're doing intense workouts or are a professional athlete.
"Electrolyte" and "salt" are both categories of things.
Not all salts are electrolytes and not all electrolytes are salt.
Most of one or the other do happen to be both....
It's literally potassium, not salt... That's why Prime is shit hydration, it has no salt or sugar, only potassium, which you barely lose when sweating
