We're moving to Alaska. We spent two months for the last 2 years in Alaska. The first year we did January and February the second year we did February and March. It never felt dark to me with the moon and stars shining all over the snow. It felt like daylight to me. I must be just lucky. I think what I'm going to dislike the most is mosquitoes. I haven't spent a summer out in Alaska yet. My favorite time of year is winter

5 Reasons to move to Fairbanks: 1) No traffic lights driving hundreds of miles (Fairbanks to Circle, Fairbanks to Arctic Circle, Fairbanks to Manley Hot Springs, Fairbanks to Denali Borough, North Pole to Valdez, etc. 2) International Airport 10 minutes away 3) Research University 4) Fantastic snowmachining, cross-country skiing, hunting, fishing, gardening, biking, canoing, hiking 5) No road salt, vehicles do not rust out,

The roads are salted and also are treated with Calcium Chloride - and yes, vehicles rust out. And I don't know what is meant by "Research University", but I wouldn't consider UAF as a research university. No 1st rate scientist is going to live in Fairbanks. In fact, no 1st rate Medical Doctor, Lawyer, anything is going to live in Fairbanks. Don't believe me? Call the Tanana Health Clinic and see how long it would take you to book an appointment to get an adult wellness physical. Even the Doctors on the military bases are 3rd rate. No Medical Doctor worth anything wants to come to Fairbanks. The ones that graduate from a well known medical school - get out of here as soon as they can and leave those that graduated at "the bottom of their class" at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Also - take a look at housing and grocery prices and the price of gasoline (Alaska has 6 active petroleum refineries and still has some of the highest prices in the nation - they even export gasoline to Japan and Korea from here). Even the oil field workers - on the North Slope - the majority of them live in the lower 48 and fly up her to work 30 days on and 30 off. Fairbanks is a dying community where business are closing faster than they are opening. Why on earth anyone without any money would move to Fairbanks is beyond me. Why some of these groups try and relocate people from the inner cities in the lower 48 to Fairbanks is beyond me. I feel bad for those tricked into moving here - even the soldiers.

Dont care about the airport or college, hunting and fishing are not fantastic compared to many other places and they do salt the roads
Fairbanks is crowded, houses are really expensive, property taxes are high

      1) How old are you?
      2) How many winters have you lived in Fairbanks?
      3) Where else have you lived?
      4) Where did you graduate college; with a degree in what?
You could be a 13 year old dependent of some REMF soldier who just moved here from Fort Lee. Or you could be a 70 year old who's lived and experienced the entire world. I just want to get some perspective.

@@FISHH00KS Some strange questions, but I have never spent a winter in Fairbanks, too crowded, I have spent 21 winters either between Delta and Tok and Central and Circle.
I have lived in MN, OH, WV, MO, MT and ID. I chose not to go to college as at that point I didnt know of a job that I wanted to commit my life to, instead I went into construction which has allowed me to live wherever I wanted to and work until the construction season ends then live a subsistence lifestyle during the winter, which I am just about to do again.

@@DiscoverFairbanks I retired and moved here 12 yeas ago. One of the most interesting things I came across when looking for a home was the information provided by a professor at UAF on permafrost. The information he provided on permafrost and drill-logs played a significant part in my land purchases. I've not seen a permafrost video of any detail integrated into a real estate video. That's all.

Well, I can't move further north. The no see ems are bad enough in southeast. I'm allergic to insect saliva.

Thank you. I moved to the Midwest. I really believe people are tired and sickly here because they can't get a good night's sleep. Down south when I was a kid, no-see-um were not an issue. Mosquitoes and ticks were the problems. I think it's changing down there because more people are talking about them.
