I love the show "The Gilded Age" and I am very excited to see season 2 on its way! I worked at the Biltmore Estate for years and am still enchanted by the history of the Vanderbilts and the gilded age period of history!
same! I am loving the expansion of her life and everyone else "across the bridge" in this new season. I hope we get to see more--I'd love a spin off someday!
It is interesting that Julian Fellowes linked the inspirational stories of two separate families, Gould & Vanderbilt (who also had railroad investments), to create the Russels.
Following character development is intriguing - the costumes, the sets are fabulous. And, it is somewhat following real History. I don't find it frivolous in scenarios, like some period series turn me off with.
Ward McAllister's "The Four Hundred" list (published in the New York Times) was so influential it even reached the Philippines ("Manila's (First) 400" due to being a former American colony) and was probably the inspiration for the Wizarding World (Harry Potter universe)'s "Sacred Twenty-eight" (the British pureblood families) I also hope future seasons (if they ever cross into the 20th century) may feature a British family semi-inspired by "Downton Abbey"'s Crawley family (County of Grantham)
Aunt Ada, Miss Brooks, Aurora Fane, and Miss Chamberlain are my favorite characters. I know that this is in New York but I would like to see suffragette Carrie Chapman Catt. Also, I’d love to see more real life social workers from that time.
I loved this top like no other top i've loved before on this channel. Therefore, happy sunday afternoon , Emely. Take care and God bless you, greetings from Colombia to you as well.
I loved this video. I was familiar with the Astors and Vanderbilts but not many of the other characters. I feel somewhat caught up. S1 was great. And I just watched S2 E1. It made me think that S1 was all prelude, getting me to know the characters, S2 E1 was able to hit the ground running. I liked it better than all of S1.
Awesome video; I'd like to see my great great uncle, Dr. Bishop R. S. Williams make an appearance. He was an associate of Ida B. and was the 6th bishop of the CME Church; he attended Wiley, Howard, and Yale and was born to a mixed heritage in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. He worked civil rights with W.E.B. DuBois, Booker T. Washington, and was friends with Adam D. Williams, grandfather of MKL Jr.
I’d love to see someone like Mary Church Terrell show up. I believe Peggy’s father made a reference to her brother in their dinner scene, he mentioned a man at Howard named Mr Church.
I think it was his father who went down with the Titanic. I read that he put his wife in a lifeboat, smiled at her and said he'd see her tomorrow. But he knew he was going down with the ship.
There actually is a Jay Gould in the series. They don't get into him alot but they do have him in a few scenes with George Russell and he's remarked as being a very wealthy man. I think George Russell is more cast like William Kissam Vanderbilt
When I was born, my aunt said I would be in the 400. Needless to say, I never got close to the upper classes. Now, I am not sure my aunt meant it as a compliment, but I was a toddler.
That snobbery as you so eloquently put it, still exists. I grew up in a family of new money and no matter how much wealth my father had, we were society outcasts among the people from old money. It is what it is.
What if any real life person is Agnes Van Rhijn inspired by? Me favourite characters are Oscar Ban Rhijn and Ward McAlister (Nathan Lane). Audra McDonald because she played Sara in the broadway musical Ragtime that I worked for. Worst character is George Russell. He really needs a good shave!! Why don’t they use the real names of the characters that they are inspired after instead??
In the case of the Russells it's a blending of 2 historical figures/families (Jay Gould and the Vanderbilts) so that's probably why sometimes they use real names and sometimes they are made up!
While I enjoy British social drama it is nice to experience & savor American tales as well.
Me too
I love the show "The Gilded Age" and I am very excited to see season 2 on its way! I worked at the Biltmore Estate for years and am still enchanted by the history of the Vanderbilts and the gilded age period of history!
I also enjoy the first season of the gilded age! Wonderin when will the 2nd season out...😢😢😢
@@Yaelah-ws9rq the second season is out already
I thought there was no season 2?!
Peggy Scott is my favorite character in the show. I can't wait to see her journey to becoming a successful writer
same! I am loving the expansion of her life and everyone else "across the bridge" in this new season. I hope we get to see more--I'd love a spin off someday!
My first thought when I saw her was Ida B. Wells, but research said Julia Collins. Nice to see I was correct with Ida B.
My favorite character is Agnes Van Rihn. Hilarious, cutting dialogue, well delivered. Every once in a while, she shows some kindness.
She is wonderful.
She is non-prejudicial towards black people (Peggy in particular) to a fault. That can't be taken for granted in her time.
It is interesting that Julian Fellowes linked the inspirational stories of two separate families, Gould & Vanderbilt (who also had railroad investments), to create the Russels.
I love how George is so dedicated to Bertha's ambitions and to Bertha herself.
I've never watched this show before, but considering all the hype surrounding it, I might just give it a watch! 💞
The acting is good, the sets and costumes are amazing!
I’m hooked it’s a really great show.
Get ready to binge watch.

The hype is real! Such a good show, easy to watch and so intriguing.

Edith Wharton modeled a character after him in Age of Innocence.
Growing up on the Mainline outside of Philadelphia, I've witnessed first hand the distinction between old money and new. This show is SPOT ON !!!!!
The woman engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge ❤
Watch season 2

Bertha Russell is my favorite character. She takes those old money snobs so well.

I am a Black history buff and I forgot Thomas Fortune! Thank you
I’d love to see someone like Mary Church Terrell show up. I believe Peggy’s father made a reference to her brother in their dinner scene, he mentioned a man at Howard named Mr Church.
Started watching the Gilded Age, I love period pieces, this show is wonder . It's as good as Brigderton and I love that show
History is interesting in many ways.
As well as horrifying in many ways.
I would love to see John Jacob Astor IV be portrayed. He would be in his early 20s here. The show gives the impression Mrs Astor only had one child.
I think it was his father who went down with the Titanic. I read that he put his wife in a lifeboat, smiled at her and said he'd see her tomorrow. But he knew he was going down with the ship.
I really want to see Henry James and Edith Wharton. Loved Oscar Wilde in season 3.
Excellent introduction of the supposed characters!
The way Mr. Russell champions his wife I swoon every time
Thank you ❤😂
Peggy Scott and Aunt Ada are my favorites ❤
There are so many interesting people and families from this era. Carnegie was quite interesting,
So the Russell's are based on the Vanderbilts?
I'd love to see the Rockerfellers.
magical, I love this show, is just amazing.
Power to the people
I really like Peggy and mrs Astor, as well as Mrs Van Rhighn
These women were the ORIGINAL HOUSEWIVES!

This is interesting
Who is Agnes based on?
Don't know at all.
Bertha Russell is MARGOT DUNNE!!!!!!!! (gone girl)
WHAT??! For real????
Good catch, wow
Maybe someone knows, when is the next season planned?
I thought it was supposed to come out this year.
Season 2 just started on October 29, 2023😊
What about Emily Warren Roebling the little known engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge project after her husband became too ill to work
Check out season 2.
I would compare George Russell to Cornelius Vanderbilt.
The snobbery of that period is appalling.
That's what makes it fun to watch.
That snobbery as you so eloquently put it, still exists. I grew up in a family of new money and no matter how much wealth my father had, we were society outcasts among the people from old money. It is what it is.
Puhleeze. Don’t flatter yourself. You think there’s no snobbery today? Grow up
I would've loved to see cj walker (first self made female millionaire)
I wanna buy the series

🎞🎶📺🧙🏻♂
So Thomas Fortune introduced black people to the democrat plantation and we have never had a gilded age since
What does that mean is it bad?
@@Jinkook-wu1pu look at the state of the black community then and look at it now you tell me ?
Peggy Scott is a lame and boring character. They should write her out.
