    I rode my 1150 GS all over North America, including north Alaska, several times as well as using it as my daily for years. Without question the best bike I have ever owned by a significant margen. I replaced it in 19 with a KTM 1290 SAR, which was fun but no where as good. My 1150 is currently undergoing a significant refresh, which will give it a few more decades of use. I'll never, ever sell it.

    Always great to have a try out run... and what a spot. I was in Bala in the first week of Easter. I was due to stay the week in a cottage but on the second day... it SNOWED! There was no way I was going to ride the Llanberis pass in the snow. I think the next time I'm there I will stay at that camp site, the evening conversation sounded..... totally random! 😵‍💫 🤣🤣🤣 If it were mine I'd keep the Beemer and do the work. Nice one Dazzler. Horseshoe pass is a famous bike run and it used to be a regular ride out for me and my biker buddies over the years. Stopping off on top at the Ponderosa Cafe for a brew and egg n chips etc.
    there’s many a great road to explore all around that area and it’s not far for me. I’m lucky here, I can go east and be in the Peak District National Park in half an hour and go west and be in North Wales in half an hour-ish. Head north and I’m in the Lake District in two hours.

    • @SidekickSolo
      @SidekickSolo  Рік тому

      I have popped the rods out once and had a look but not sure if I gave them a good enough inspection. The throttle bodies are good. Think I’m going to check the cam chain tensioners and double check the push rods. I do expect it to be a little noisy given age and mileage but some times is worse than others.

    Great trip, those older GS really get under your skin - they have a lot of character, I had a r1200 05 with 75k on it, also had a rear shock leak, got a 2nd hand one, then put a "shock sock" on it to keep the worst of the road grime off it. Didn't need to change the clutch, it looked like a reasonably straightforward job just required a lot of disassembly to get to it.

    • @SidekickSolo
      @SidekickSolo  Рік тому

      It definitely seems to have some character and feels like it responding to love it’s getting. I will see how it goes and I may attempt the clutch sooner rather than later and dedicate a weekend to do. Like you say doesn’t look that bad, I think it looks worse than it is to do.

    Sounds fine, like a standard GS. Is the clutch done in? If it's not, just leave it, it's a massive job. Wheels look fine, it's an old bike. Mileage isn't all that high (it's well below mine). Fork seals often weep if they're gritty and the bike hasn't been used much recently. You can get a thing to clean them out. I did mine 20,000 miles ago, no leak since. The rear shock looks like it's had it, but it's easy to replace. Don't get caught up in perfectionitis, a bike like that just needs to work well and be ridden. Trying to turn it into a garage queen isn't worth the effort.

    • @SidekickSolo
      @SidekickSolo  Рік тому

      Unfortunately the clutch does slip under certain circumstances so will need changing. I don’t want it to look perfect or be a garage queen, that’s not my style. But I do want it to be a reliable bike I can take on cross country trips without having mechanical issues.

    Funny this I live round here and could do this every day but NO, where you live is not where you want to be is it ??
    What I would say we have an anex one double bed and a sofa bed with kitchen etc etc and will be opening up to bikers next year at what I feel are sensible prices I.E. not a rip off like most !!!! If half interested just drop me a note !!
    The roads around here are second to none trust me But you do have to watch out for the sheep L.O.L..........

      It always the way. When you live there it never seems as interesting but you have some great roads around you. I would definitely be interested if you decide to let out your annex.
