I bought this variety from shamous O’Leary. It didn’t quite take off the first year and I went back to see some examples in the ground. They had two: one was 10ft tall and looked terrible. One was dead! It’s nice to see one thriving. Thanks for the advice.

I live in Phoenix but I might have to take a trip to QC to get some of this bamboo, I have 4 varieties already but I need striped bamboo

Shamus O’Leary In south phx has this variety. I bought 3 3 gallons in march and the new culms are about 6 feet now

Bamboo stores plenty of water in the culms which is used in dry times. If you see culms shrinking or wrinkling during extended dry periods that is a time where you need to flood base of plant. This will only happen in extended hot periods in full sun.

Why do some leaves turn yellow in spring and summer? Is that natural? I have giant oldhami and it’s like 55ft
I am thinking of something shorter and like the color of the culm of Hawaiian bamboo but afraid it’s going to get as tall as oldhamii

Are roots invasive into sewer system?

I have a question for you. I read online that golden Hawaiian bamboo cant tolerate below 27F for even a few hours. You said you have seen yours do well in low 20s no problem? Is it planted in a good microclimate? I would love to plant this variety but im in 9B and was a afraid it would die as we sometimes see low 20s here also. If yours is thriving thatd be fantastic as it means I can plant this variety too.
Thank you for these videos. Theyre very informative.

I get lot 20s every winter here. It has even taken direct frost. Not everything you read online is accurate, lots of opinions.

When is the cut off month weather condition to not plant it in the ground since winter is coming
And if i do plant it in cold weather season do i need to water it like regular or hold until warm warmest weather like in feb or march ‘2024

for cold/frost sensitive plants as soon as night temperatures starting dropping and expected to get lower in the next month or so. If you need a number, 50-60F night temp.

I'm in 9b. In zone 10 this bamboo would grow even faster!. Spacing I would say 8-10ft

@@qctropicals thx, will it do good as privacy screen? Should I plant closer together than that? How close to a fence, i know it's clumping
