I knew Dale and helped mark and build the trail and was one of the people who worked with the USFS providing environmental impact statements. I was heartbroken when Dale passed way too young and think of him often. I now live three miles off the trail and feel so privileged to have been a part of the AZT’s infancy.
This documentary on the Arizona Trail is a true masterpiece. Darwin, you’ve captured the breathtaking beauty of Arizona in such a profound way that it made me even more proud to call this state home. Although I may never have the chance to experience the trail firsthand, watching this during one of my toughest weeks brought me a sense of calm, serenity, and inspiration. Your work is nothing short of art, and you should be incredibly proud of this incredible accomplishment. Thank you for sharing such a gift with the world.
Easily my favorite thing you’ve ever done, other than maybe the PCT series. Keep up the great work with your advocacy for trails and the communities that support them! Love to see it.
Your filmmaking has evolved tremendously.. this documentary is second to none in my opinion. Excellent work that you should be proud of. Thank you for it.
This documentary is phenomenal! I'm a triple crowner but haven't really given the AZT much thought because I assumed it was mostly desert. I will absolutely be hiking this trail!
It was your original thru-hike of the AZT that made me wanna hike this trail. I went as far as to enlist the help of the Warrior Expidetion organization. But bailed because I depend on a cpap for sleep. Watching this documentary filled me with joy and regret. Joy that so many get to hike, maintain and angel this trail. Regret in knowning Ill never be able to sleep under the stars on this trail and experience this life changing hike that so many have done and will do. Darwin man, you are a constant source of inspiration, information and happiness. Thank you for putting this together brother. Hope 2025 treats you and cuddles well.
Really? Lived in Phoenix for 11 years (off and on) and found it deeply depressing, moreso every time I wound up back there. There's no living water, sparse if any trees, everything is dull and sun bleached, there's few critters compared to everywhere else I've lived, it never rains, everything looks and feels the same everywhere you go, the mountains are more like hills, everything is incredibly far apart, the people are mean (I'm not exaggerating, I think compared to everywhere else I've lived the people in Phoenix were consistently the absolute worst - and I've lived in New York!), and it's hot all the time. I just left the Sonoran for the high desert in CO and have hiked more in the month since I left than I did in the whole last year I was in Phoenix because I was just so sick of looking at the place and so tired of being hot and dry all the time. I genuinely can't imagine having any fond feelings or nostalgia for the place, and I'm certain I'll never live there long-term again. I mean there's places in AZ I like, like Sedona or Flag, but honestly I feel like the further I am away from Phoenix at this point the better. 😂
Thanks Darwin! I watched this back in the day and the rewatch is just as awesome! Thanks for the re-stoke! I've had the opportunity to ride sections and hope to ride the whole thing this year. So cool!
I’ve been following along your journey for years. You’ve inspired so many people including myself. Thank you so much for sharing on this platform. Beautiful work. Ive been on few sections of this magical trail and can’t wait to get back out there.
That was absolutely amazing - superb job Darwin and thank you! I’ve been an outdoor enthusiast my whole life but never done the AZT - I can tell you it’s on my bucket list now!!
Thanks! This was definitely when I was still cutting my teeth with film making. It's fun to look back on it & think about how I would do things differently now 😅
I remember watching this when you first released it and it literally made me want to jump in the car and head to Arizona and hike the AZT. What a great and informative documentary. Can’t wait to hike it one day! It’s on the bucket list! ❤
Great job I really enjoyed rewatching this film Brovo! I have hiked a lot of the trail but watching this makes me want to connect the missing parts and volunteer to help maintain the trail. It’s a jewel we need to protect and you have done a good job promoting it! Take it Easy 👍
As a longtime Tucsonan. The Santa Ritas, Rincons and Catalinas are in my backyard. I feel so lucky, but the trail has been nagging at me. Bob, you make us all proud. Muchas gracias, mi hermano!!
This trail has been in my dreams for years and I hope with all my heart I will get the opportunity to thru hike it and experience the magic that is the American south west!
Beautiful, thanks. That riparian section around Picketpost is lost to fire now (2021) and the rest of that area is overgrown with hay (Brome- invasive grass). Same with the Superstitions, half of the Wilderness burned in 2021, the rest was consumed by fire in 2020 and 2024. What little remains is completely overgrown with tall invasive grass and pernicious catclaw. Sigh.
I'm doing a trip soon to meet up with family at where we used to see each other (at Grandma's in California) for the first time in 20 years. Sure, it's a funeral, but my dad and I will be driving through the SW like we did when I was little, will work in a few destinations along the way, my brother is in Phoenix, and so...I'm in quite the SW nature mood. One day I need to do a proper AZ hiking trip.

just rewatched this film a month ago! love seeing the behind the scenes of what goes into a hike like the AZT, thank you for showing it so well!
Thanks brother! We miss you down here in the Ol' Southwest! 😉

Wow, has it been five years? It is good to rewatch and enjoy it again now. Thanks!
Your filmmaking has evolved tremendously.. this documentary is second to none in my opinion. Excellent work that you should be proud of. Thank you for it.
Darwin, your AZT documentary is a Masterpiece.... Period. Thank you!
I remember seeing the premier in Flagstaff. It was a packed house and a lot of fun watching it.
This documentary is phenomenal! I'm a triple crowner but haven't really given the AZT much thought because I assumed it was mostly desert. I will absolutely be hiking this trail!
I can't wait to see Gary in Kearney and hopefully MJ has a spot for me to stay again. It'll be my second time hiking the AZT.

Truly incredible. As someone who lives in Arizona I can say the desert and mountains here are magical.

Heard of the Trail but Never Knew about it. What an amazing video to get your blood pumping to go do this trail.

Great film! I completed the AZT (sectioning) back in 2019, and you brought back so many positive memories. Thank you.
Bought it on Prime when it was released 5 years ago. I still watch it every year. Love this!

Well done! Such a good review and makes me want to go!
I wish you could make way more of these, I get why its a challenge though. Much love (bought on Vimeo and on Amazon to support long back)
Thank You! Have you seen "Na Wai" or "The Community"? Those are 2 other longer format films I've released on UA-cam. 🤙
