It's not possible, in the eyes of lady justice, to extract all the performance of a really fast car. This begs the question, what's more fun, fast car slow, or slow car fast?
2002's have ALWAYS been my favorite car. It was the first car I noticed, as a kid, that made me realize cars didn't just have to be a tool that got you from A to b. My favorite teacher from universal technical institute had a silver 2002 that he raced at the Poconos. Absolutely wonderful cars.
Awesome build. I can relate to most upgrades. For some 5 years I push my 02'Licious at The Nürburgring and I can honestly say that this one blows my other track cars right out of the water in sheer emotional hardcore analogue driving. Slow car fast all day long ... Cheers
I daily drove my 1974 2002 in Breckenridge CO up and down peak 8 where I lived all winter. 4 studded snows and LSD and I rallied up and down the mountain never got stuck. I just recently got another 2002, after a lifetime of different cars, it's no doubt my favorite car
First time I drove was in 2002 ice racer, In Quebec on a frozen lake track, been in love with them ever since. I was 14 years old btw yes it was in the 1970's.
In racetrim they still ran about 850hp but needed an overhaul after each race, as did the qualifying engines. Only used 1502 m10 blocks with a minimum of 100.000 km on it were sourced to build the F1 engines to be sure the cast was good and would not crack. At first the biggest problem was to develop an enginemanagement that would provide usable power. Power was still like a sort on/off switch.
Gotta love it. My whole life I have had a love affair with all three of the cars that make up the class this 2002 runs in. I am partial more to Giulias first, then 510s (nickeldimes) but the 2002s are also a favorite of mine. Now if only I could afford to have one before they get so expensive I can’t justify hammering on one...
My gas pedal (1602) came off so many times, as did the newer replacements wear out (im heavy on it too).. that I just sleeved the rod with tubing and put a few throwout bearings on it from 22Rs. They where everywhere from core engines at work. Just scrap garbage. Never again had a pedal issue. No pedal, no issue. A girlfriend i had got a 2002 because she liked mine, she almost threw the pedal out the window once. I just crimped the holes on hers back down with vice grips and it worked for her. Someone more agressive like me though, it only lasted me a few weeks.
Fun fact, Alfa Romeo held on to drum brakes waay beyond their competititors. Sporting 3 double cilinders per drum, aluminium vented housings etc. Under pressure from the customers they adopted discbrakes and most of the cars where directly fitted with disc's allround with the exception of some budget models. Later in the late 80's the drums came back on cars like the 33 etc
Couple of quick clarifications - BS (B Sedan) predates ITB (Improved Touring B) by many years. It was a hotbed of factory supported racing in the late 1960s and early ‘70s which such notables as John (“The Stainless Steel Carrot”) Morton racing a factory supported Datsun 510 for Pete Brock, Horst Qwech in an Alfa, amongst others. ITB is still a SCCA amateur class, though not as popular as it was 15 years ago, it still has hot spots in the mid-Atlantic and southeast. At my home track (Summit Point) it was not unusual to see 30 car ITB fields in the 1980’s and 90’s, the bulk of which were ‘02s.
Rilly love what hot wheels have ben doing latly from sposring events like japan fd to recognizing honoring cool car build i would not be in to cars if it wasn't for Hot Wheels as a kid 👍🤘
Hi There, I had an idea that came to me In a dream but I think you guys should “Hoonigan” a London black cab! Literally go nuts and then call it “Allo guvnor!”
There is a story that the blocks they used in those 1300hp f1 engines were taken from 2002s that had over 100,000kms so they knew the blocks didn’t have any casting imperfections and had been heat cycled many times
Rial was being modest when talking about the Alfas. They are beautiful, but not at all competitive in B-Sedan. With equal power, the 2002 is the fastest with ease. The Datsuns produce the most power by far, which make them very, very hard to beat when a good driver is in the cockpit. However, the 2002 is much easier to drive. So, most often you'll see one or two 510s battling at the front with 5+ 2002s in tow.
Crazy thing about those BMW F1 engines wa they used the highest mileage engine blocks they could find and then let them sit outside in the weather. Then the mechanics would go outside and pee on them, not sure what the purpose of that was but they worked.
Great little Beamer Super cool hot wheel Nice setup I think Adam Corolla has a little 620 Datsun setup similar Not sure if they're same classed but lots of fun I bet Enjoy guys!
I always wanted a BMW 2002 on bags.. they're still bringing $40,000 around my way. Can yall ask that guy if he got any 2002 beaters for sale.. cheap. I dont need the 1200hp indy one.. lol 👍
I purchased the 1971 2002 BMW as my first car out of the Navy. I saved the money while I served and paid cash. Out the door it was $3750. I traveled across the US, Canada and Mexico. 64K miles in three years. Sears Point and Laguna Seca raceways we’re always the best...those were the days!
cologne for men would just attract other men lol. wife use to hate smelling me after I got out of the 68 911 after a day at the track. if they could nail that aroma though, put it in a spray or candle, that'd be money!
A friend of mine drives a 2002 widebody track car with a 350hp s14 engine and sequential shifter thats even faster than a gt3. You can check a short piece of it out in my Videos.
It's not possible, in the eyes of lady justice, to extract all the performance of a really fast car. This begs the question, what's more fun, fast car slow, or slow car fast?
Beating on a slow car like a red headed stepchild is always a blast. Having some badass machine laugh at your puny skills is no fun at all.
I have a FRS so you know what my answer is lol
Slow car fast ftw
Slow car fast, at least to learn some skills.
That's why F1 drivers started in karting.
Most fun you can have with your pants on, IMO.
Definitely slow-car fast, I just picked up an r56 mini cooper s, it's loads of fun to chuck around
This was not a regular Build Biology. So much footage to complete the story. Awesome

He's a treasure trove of knowledge. We'd love to keep him, just need to get nads to share his beer stash with him.

Those turbo f1 m10’s only lasted the one lap for qualifying sadly, but still awesome.
So true on all counts.
