- THIS IS NOT A REAL SPEEDRUN OR A REAL TAS. It is the most realistic interpretation of what the Wind Waker HD any% TAS will look like one day when it is complete. I spliced together clips of real gameplay from Wind Waker HD and TAS gameplay from Wind Waker SD done by myself and TASer TrogWW.

Why Italian?
Italian has the fastest text for Wind Waker HD
Why do you have some clips from the original Wind Waker?
Currently the TAS tools for the original Wind Waker are far superior to that of Wind Waker HD mainly due to having savestates. Clips used of the original game were for tricks that were too difficult to imitate/replicate without tools.
How do you swim so fast in the water?
In both the original game and in HD, if you turn around in the water you gain 3 units of negative speed, if we chain these together frame perfectly we can gain 90 units of negative speed per second. Around -1400 speed is required to superswim across the ocean in one air gauge.
Why do you go to the submarine before dragon roost?
Instead of obtaining the bottle the normal way, we can simply defeating the enemies in the submarine at bomb island and get it in a chest there. This skips the sequence of talking to Medli and Komali and throwing Medli to obtain the bottle. This is not done RTA because this would add another manual superswim and would end up not saving any time because a human needs to pause buffer turning around in the water.
How do you pull out the grappling hook and then go so fast?
This glitch is known as item sliding and involves going into first person mode with any item you can move around with (grappling hook, boomerang, bow, or hookshot), holding a direction to get link moving, and then quickly switching to ESS in the opposite direction. This will cause link to then build speed exponentially, so much that the game will crash after charging for 8 seconds. A TAS does not need to pause buffer item slides.
How do you teleport across the ocean to a different island?
This is know as island hopping and involves building so much speed with an item slide that once you release all of this speed you can travel the entire distance across the ocean in one frame. All island hops are theoretically possible but are so difficult that instead position restore after charging an item slide for a while was done to as closely as possible simulate what these island hops would look like.
How did you aim so quickly with the grappling hook?
Wind Waker HD has an aiming mechanic known as gyro which uses motion controls based on the direction the wii u gamepad is facing to determine which direction you aim a first person item. Because of this it is theoretically possible to aim at any spot within a large range in a single frame. A human would need to pause, turn the gamepad, and then unpause, however a TAS could do this in one frame.
Why do you always get perfect luck?
RNG, which determines luck based events in the game, is calculated based on all previous in-game inputs. A TAS can always have the exact same inputs every time, therefore it can alter its inputs in a way that it always gets perfect luck.
Why don't you ever get storage?
Dry storage was patched out upon release of Wind Waker HD and remains only possible in the original Wind Waker game.
What were the time-saves over trog's theory TAS?
Faster HD cutscenes, faster movement in dragon roost cavern, stick through the door strategy in dragon roost cavern, gossip stone skip, ff1 spikes raising cutscene skip, ff1 door clip, hero's sword skip, sail skip, bombs skip, leaf skip, and faster damage route on grand staircase.

I love the music of the game. the OST sounds directly like freedom and boundlessness. You are directly in the mood to travel the sea.
Those perfect item slides leave you feeling ahead of yourself every time. It's like an extra degree of hustle has to be added on because it's so fast. In real life there would be a few hundredths lost right after because you'd be sitting there for a split second like holy shit how the hell??... haha, hard to keep up with that pace. Zero nerves, just full send.
Island Hopping, Phantom Ganon Skip, Puppet Ganon Skip with no leaf... insane stuff.
This game will NEVER get old.
The cell shading IS Amazing for that.

Since barrier skip was found from the original WW, this is only a matter of time.
TrogWW will be working on that one. He knows SD much better. I feel comfortable enough helping with the real HD TAS when it comes out because I've spent a LOT of time learning about the any% route. I am very comfortable with TASing item slide movement. TrogWW is much better with basic movement and RNG manipulation.

so are all the tricks performed on the GC version the same as the HD version? i know that might be hard to verify since TAS tools aren't available for HD but like... is HD just a port of the GC version with updated graphics and a couple patches, or was it rebuilt?
Yes. This entire thing is theoretically doable on purely HD but we don't have savestates making TASing impossible currently. Yeah HD was a port with some patches and updates

I TASed certain sections on SD and I have the JP version of SD because the item sliding cheat requires JP. But the big cutscenes are fastest in Italian on HD

Idk if you got your answer in all these months, but it's a glitch called Item Sliding, only in the HD remake. It has to do with holding a certain position on the thumbstick after pausing and unpausing and it speeds him up tremendously. He isn't teleporting, just going super fast each frame, often island hopping in one frame.

At 14:00 how does save + quit from Dragon Root Caverns to Outset work?
The default spawn location after savequit or dying is on outset early in the game until certain flags are hit that change this location. Because the TAS has avoided all savewarp flags by sequence breaking going directly to dragon roost, the spawn location is still at outset.

How did you do the Island hops?
The item sliding code I used was old and incorrect. It made it very hard to do. Trial and error. The ones on HD were faked with position restore.

How would you make a "segmented tas" that legterly makes 0 sense if it's on emulator you can just put the inputs for the fastest segment for each segment... Unless it's not on emulator and its just a modifyed console or smth, that would make alot more sense
You can't TAS on HD. The segments on HD were either done RTA or with cheats (position restore). You can only TAS on the gamecube version. So the hard parts were done on SD.

Why isn't early bottle used in the current run?
It would only save a few seconds due to an extra buffered superswim which takes a minute longer than TAS. It is currently being considered for RTA due to us having faster swims than previously.

@@eduardolarrymarinsilva76 You can't make it into the pool in time. The bomb explodes too quickly. Also you can drown medli but she's not there unless you completed the sidequest before getting to the outside room.

@@Macswaggens we can't make an actual TAS until we have TAS tools for wind waker HD. Until then this is the best we can do. There are, however, a lot of potential optimizations for this that I would want to update, however seeing this video has 17K views it's hard to find motivation to make another video unless it's drastically different. We are currently working on making a better hack for item sliding on SD that would be much closer to the HD item slide glitch.
