Thanks for the video! I just went to the shop and got my heater hose replaced and was told I needed a coolant housing and a radiator replacement, which I decline. Thanks to your video I am confident I can do it myself.
Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes Yes, Finally someone with some sense! Never use coolant flush, engine flush or any other flush, its just a marketing ploy to sell some other product. Like you said it just frees up scale and crap that goes somewhere else and causes another problem, usually alot larger. Same thing with the stuff people put in their oil tanks to clean and derust it, they have to put a new filter on once a week and usually have all kinds of heating issues for a year, just because they believe they were doing some good. So take it from Klowny, he has some sound advice.
My 1998 chevy lumina radiator petcock is a plastic green mechanism. It is stuck. Which way should I turn it do to unlock it? Does it just turn 90 degrees and then pull out? Your answer would greatly appreciated.
From what I've been reading antiseize is good for metal on metal but don't use on rubber (like the radiator hoses) as it breaks it down. Use Silicone grease instead. I'd certainly use the AntiSeize on the housing bolts. Love the stuff. I put that S$%# on everything. :) Thanks for the video. Very clean engines - clearly you don't have roads with salt on em. :P
Brian's REALLY a camera girl now... funny I like that mini ratchet... gotta get me one...good advice on treating your cooling system-- Thanks for posting
Yes you did. my bad. The only problem with my dodge is, you have to remove the serpentine belt and the 3 bolts to the a/c compressor to get to the thermostat housing bolts. Taking the thermostat out is not the problem but, doing this 2 or three times can be "real troublesome."
How come you didn't mention to have your heater on all the way when doing a coolant flush? The heater core holds a lot of coolant. Awesome video. Thanks a lot.
Thank you very much for the video, now I feel that I can do a coolant flush for any car. Silly question though, when should I do a coolant flush? About the last part, when you talking about "scale" (I think thats what you said), would doing flush with water also risk "freeing up scale" similar to to when using coolant flush liquid? If scales going into the heat core is the only damage that needs to be avoided, would flushing without the heaters blasting help avoid risk (maybe even just the first few flushs)?
I have a 98 cadillac deville. I am not sure if the drain plug broke or is just not sitting right. Due to the close work area. If the plug is damaged is it a difficult fix?
Do all car radiators need flushing--and is distilled water better to use? I have only been replacing the anti freeze. I now have an antifreeze leak somewhere (very noticeable smell). I will remember this video and ask my mechanic which method he's going to use to flush it. Very useful information, great for animal lovers too. Thank You!
I Have a 2006 Impala and I have a leak that stains the were belts are located and I might think it's coolant leak because I checked and I have low coolant fluid any suggestions??
+klowny1969 I checked under the car and there's drips but from the passenger side I can hardly see but I see this reddish Luquid and it's not power steer or transmission fluid
Thanks for the video. Noticed you doing this on a later model Impala. Question - lately my Impala seems to be running hotter - normally it runs about 1 notch below 1/2 way on the temp gauge. Lately its been running 1 notch above - even at highway speed on a cooler day... and the two electric cooling fans seem to be running full tilt... I see no leakage from the water pump so figure must be the thermostat. The car has about 220,000 km (138,000 miles). Still the OEM rad, water pump and thermostat. What would you think is the issue?
most likely the thermostat..u can use an infrared temp gun on the thermostat housing to diagnose it..tek the temp before the thermostat and after it..to see the temp diff when fully open..
I drained my coolant today and added a bottle of flush and distilled water. I seem to have a air block that I can't burp out by squeezing the hoses. Ran the engine with heater on and blowing lots of heat. Radiator hoses aren't getting hot. When I started engine to add more water in the expansion tank, the water pump wasn't drawing in more water. I don't have a radiator cap. Any suggestions?
Yes correct..some cars u can control the fan speed seperately..thats why i always say put the heat full blast, the heat itself should be all the way to hot..thanks for watching
i was talking about the coolant filler tube, i just found that was the name of that part. I am trying to buy one of those, but it seems like there is no place where i can buy that part. I had a car accident on my Impala a few months ago and that part got broken. Hope to find one soon, otherwise i probably gonna need to buy one from the manufacturer. Thanks for quick respond bro!
klowny1969 yea bro you saved me some money dude!Where I live Mechanics charge 90 dollars labor an hour.Plus I get to hear your zingers you through in..lol kind of a tight spot to work in there with the thermostat
Think you could provide a link to the specific video you mentioned (at the 13m58s mark) where you "burp the bitch"? I've been wasting a lot of time on your channel trying to find that one video. Thanks.
+klowny1969 Found it! Thanks for going out of your way for me there. I'm in the middle of flushing the old Dex-cool out of a 95 GMC Jimmy and switching to the green stuff. I took the day off to learn more about the air pockets thing, that and it is Halloween after all. I learned recently they can be a very bad thing so I need to be rid of them to avoid future problems. You have a lot of great videos, I just wished I had more time to watch them, you know your stuff. Thanks again.
Hate those stupid clamps tho! And my Dodge Ram 1500's thermostat was the worst ever!! That clamp was a bitch to get off because of its location and no room for torque
+Dingle Berry I just washed off the dingle berry's off my ass now name me a vehicle that has a valve that keeps the heater core hose closed when heater is off dumb ass
+Dingle Berry I'm no master tech or anything, but if there is a valve keeping coolant from entering the heater core then the old coolant would stay in the heater core while flushing the system. Meaning no coolant loss or air pockets.
Thanks for the video! I just went to the shop and got my heater hose replaced and was told I needed a coolant housing and a radiator replacement, which I decline. Thanks to your video I am confident I can do it myself.

Thank u sir
Cheers. Thanx for sharing, I'm pretty confident I could do it myself. Orsum.
I would think that you should run the engine after you drain the coolant and fill with water a bit longer to get the fluids out of the heater core.
My 1998 chevy lumina radiator petcock is a plastic green mechanism. It is stuck. Which way should I turn it do to unlock it? Does it just turn 90 degrees and then pull out? Your answer would greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the video. Very clean engines - clearly you don't have roads with salt on em. :P
i put 50/50 antifreeze it will mix with rest of water in engine block and in heater core will it freeze at winter? Thanks you
That coolant looks hot bro. Never work on a hot engine.
wasnt hot
it wasnt? then why was there steam when you undid it
Brian's REALLY a camera girl now... funny
I like that mini ratchet... gotta get me one...good advice on treating your cooling system-- Thanks for posting
could have done without having to look into the evil scary clown face at beginning
+Blueviolet Indigo my apologies. .didnt mean to scare u
What are your thoughts on the prestone radiator flush?
How do you flush the heater core and engine block?
Awesome video. Thanks so much.
Neil Williams I thought I showed in the video?
Yes you did. my bad.
The only problem with my dodge is, you have to remove the serpentine belt and the 3 bolts to the a/c compressor to get to the thermostat housing bolts. Taking the thermostat out is not the problem but, doing this 2 or three times can be "real troublesome."
Good information. Thank you for an easy to understand tutorial.
Anthony Davis thank you for watching and commenting
I don't understand why you put oil on the thermostat seal. Petroleum products will most definitely ruin rubber.
How come you didn't mention to have your heater on all the way when doing a coolant flush? The heater core holds a lot of coolant.
Awesome video. Thanks a lot.
Neil Williams I did..thanks for watching
Yes you did. My bad.
I should learn from you.
Awesome video. Thanks so much.
Thank you very much for the video,

Check your manual or Google yur car but a year before they say is what I do.
I'm going to do this but also replacing the water pump, do i leave the old water pump in and follow this procedure or install new one?
+jnj2909 either way doesnt matter..thanks for watching
+klowny1969 thanks okay so I end up breaking the thermostat housing bolt what do I do to get it out?
+jnj2909 try grabbing it with a vice grip and thread it out..or easy out
Don't have to unless pump don't work if coolent leak use gasket flush simple use manufacture spec's
jnj2909 unless pump no work
I have a 98 cadillac deville. I am not sure if the drain plug broke or is just not sitting right. Due to the close work area. If the plug is damaged is it a difficult fix?
It isnt too bad..gotta check to see if they have a replacement plug..if not u have to find one that fits..thnx for watching
Thank You!
Distilled water is best to use..and u dont have to flush it, but its a good idea..thanks for watching
Thank you.
So if I flush my radiator with the garden hose method, would that help stop my cat from overheating? And what do I refill the radiator with?
First you have to diagnose why the car is overheating, it could be numerous reasons why..u can refill it with distilled water and coolant 50/50 mix
Do I have to do that to my 03 impala 3.8 or can I just use the drain plug if it has one? And should I replace the thermostat
If its original coolant..I would do it..just follow my video to the tee and u will be fine..sometimes petcocks break so I dont like to use them
+klowny1969
Did u lift your car?
Okay thanks man.
Also which thermostat did u buy the 180 or 190
klowny. can I just use drain valve under passengers side. will that flush alright
+dankone best method is what i outlined..sometimes drain petcocks break
"Oh shit" doesn't inspire much confidence in the tutorial :-)
all good mechanics say that,
I saw it on TV. :)
When i drain , is all water comes out from cooling system (heat core, engine block)? Thanks
Hey..nope try my method it should flush most of it out...thnx for watching
I Have a 2006 Impala and I have a leak that stains the were belts are located and I might think it's coolant leak because I checked and I have low coolant fluid any suggestions??
u gotta look where its coming from..check the hose and watetr pump
+klowny1969 I checked under the car and there's drips but from the passenger side I can hardly see but I see this reddish Luquid and it's not power steer or transmission fluid
+Rigo Mtz liquid *
+Rigo Mtz check the heater core hoses and hester core area..it could be alot of things
Its the best and proper way i ever seen to flush up the radiator system. Can u also put a vid on how to flush out heat core?
hasan al zaabi just disconnect both hoses and run water through it
Thanks for the video. Noticed you doing this on a later model Impala. Question - lately my Impala seems to be running hotter - normally it runs about 1 notch below 1/2 way on the temp gauge. I dont understand what you are trying to do
turn on the heater that should help burp out the air, your hoses should be hot as well if you have coolant flow
What about the thermostat housing gasket?
Awesome video. Thanks a lot.
i dont remember how it is on this car..its usually a seal..most of the time u can reuse it
Looks like that thermostat comes with a rubber seal. That's the gasket.
why did you not use distilled water on the v8?
That was fire
special tool widely available to squeeze those clamps..not too expensive either.
Do you turn the fan on? When you say have the heater on full blast.
Yes fan and heater full blast
klowny1969 making sure because on other videos they say to keep it off.
SombraLocs heater and fan should be at top setting to get the coolant to flow through the heater core
SombraLocs
Yes correct..some cars u can control the fan speed seperately..thats why i always say put the heat full blast, the heat itself should be all the way to hot..thanks for watching
Nice job!
+Kenny Porter thank u
is there not a drain plug under the radiator?
Yes..however sometimes they brake when u unscrew them
I thought you guys did a good job with the vid. I'd trust you with my car :)
Thanks for watching
What is the name of the part where you put the water, you know the one that you remove the cap to fill the water in it
the overflow reservoir? or are u talking about the radiator?
i was talking about the coolant filler tube, i just found that was the name of that part. I am trying to buy one of those, but it seems like there is no place where i can buy that part. +Omar Villar u got it
Great video thanks!!
Thanks for watching
How long after this did the head gasket blow out?
Fred Stiening why do u say that? This job was done years ago
my car uses Dex-cool, the reddish orange coolant that don't play well with additives
klown, thanks bro,
Electric Cream Man thanks for watching and commenting
klowny1969 yea bro you saved me some money dude!Where I live Mechanics charge 90 dollars labor an hour.Plus I get to hear your zingers you through in..lol kind of a tight spot to work in there with the thermostat
Electric Cream Man lol
hi, brianna.! how r u feeling after being flushed?
she luved it!!
They couldn't make that thermostat harder to get to if they tried!
lol
Dude sounds like Keanu Reeves...great video though!
Thankyou for your video, very well explained. Please get rid of the clown pic, if my daughter seen that she would freak!
lol but im a klown ;) thanks for watching and commenting
This a 5.3 engine?
3.5 but same concept..thnx for watching
3.5
thx
How to change your thermostat..........
thumbs up
+dankone thanks
What no gasket???
Nope
Think you could provide a link to the specific video you mentioned (at the 13m58s mark) where you "burp the bitch"? I've been wasting a lot of time on your channel trying to find that one video. Thanks.
+StrayCat414 this HTML class. Value is How To Bleed The Air
+StrayCat414 damn..wont let me paste the link..if u search on youtube "how to use a spill free funnel" its the first video that pops up
+klowny1969 Found it! Thanks for going out of your way for me there. I'm in the middle of flushing the old Dex-cool out of a 95 GMC Jimmy and switching to the green stuff. u didnt even let the thing run long enough for the pump to move anything at all..
editing program babeee
Hate those stupid clamps tho! And my Dodge Ram 1500's thermostat was the worst ever!! That clamp was a bitch to get off because of its location and no room for torque
I bought a hose clamp pliers from auto part store for $30, it works in tight area.
hey dingle, relax, lmao, you may be a bit over edge.
Why does everyone think turning on the heater does something. It doesn't water circulates through the core whether the fan blower is blowing are not.
Not to mention it takes longer for the thermostat to open, people don't think.
+Hawaiian F150 I honestly don't even understand anything you tried telling me there, turning on the blower won't do anything.
The heater core "can" have air pockets. Certified mechanics told me so. So, I guess their certification is useless!?
come do my car for me.. lol
Vanessa IsTheBest sure
two girls working on a car wow
Really where??
one was holding the camra the other was wiping grease on the thermostat housing
No way!!
nice audio :/
