Harbor freight carries a 9'x12' cotton painters dropcloth. Makes the best hammock for $15.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. One of the BEST channels on UA-cam. 👍
If only this were true...……. Thanks for watching
After finding this channel?IDK? Love it keep up the good work cpl, it's just what I've needed!!! I'm sure many others feel the same way. Thank you 😊!!!
True story bro!!!
Another out standing video !! I saw some where you had asked if you should change up your video style ? " I gonna throw some of your own wisdom back at you my friend ... "No need to fix what isn't broken" and this channel is far from broken !
Lol I had to figure this one out first. And later I googled it and found this. At first I had just tripods, made from walkingsticks. Then I figured out the "top ledge" to prevent the tops of the two Eiffeltowers to come together. I know now it is called ridge pole. Great upload thx! And to anyone out there: If you don't find sturdy poles, just ad more poles. It may look funny, but the only real trick to this structure is the ridge pole. Other than that it can be tripods, four, five sixpods. It is two towers and a log to keep them apart. Anyway great upload thx!!
As a Boy Scout, our troop constructed a 30-foot tower at a jamboree using four big logs and a bunch of cross-members using only knot-skills. I used a clove-hitch as my foundation knot and a clove-hitch as my finish knot on my side with all the standard lashing and frapping that you used on your structure. If I had known about the constrictor knot and the double constrictor knot, I would have used that. The only problem is, we would've had to cut all the knots to take it down. Constrictor knots are darn near permanent.
That was 50 years ago but just as pertinent today.
The quality of your video editing has really improved, much more professional. I still like the skill videos the best and overnighters second, then gear reviews. You are doing a great job, thanks for all the time and energy you dedicate to helping us gain a priceless wilderness survival education! Outstanding!
Now THIS is why I love Corporal's Corner! Keep up with this type of content! Thanks for all you do!
jagcaddy61 agree. Thanks CPL Kelly!
Another “outstanding” video, it’s a shame to hear that these skill videos don’t do as well as gear reviews. I love your gear reviews but it’s a shame that people don’t see the value in the skills you have. You do a great job of explaining thoroughly without making it dry or boring. Please keep up the great work!
Great video! This is a set up that has been pretty well known in the hammock camping world for several years now, but is not really in the main stream. Thanks for putting it out there if that others can take advantage as well! Corporal Kelly said this works for up to a 9’ hammock. In reality, with a proper 30° + sag, it will work for up to a 14’ hammock! For most people, it is most comfortable to use a hammock at least 11’ feet in length. This setup is perfect for that.
Yeah I like the bushcraft style of a turtle dog 👍
Bsfcc 04 It was actually built this way first by “Old Dog”! Then “Turtle Lady” came along with her variation, and it became the “modern” turtledog stand. But it was always bushcraft first.
@@JeremiahBlasi yeah I know the history of turtle dog. Never seen it done this way before. Shouldn't surprise me though.
One of the best hammock demonstrations I've viewed, quality visual and audio, easy to understand demonstration to the point and no nonsense.
the wrap and frap is the most versatile thing ever.. you are only limited by your imagination.
Thank you so much for showing each step of this all the way through
If it ain't raining you ain't training! Great video!
Don’t care what UA-cam says !!! I love your skills videos!!! Your best was at secret lake, because skill demonstrated, and life wisdom talk by campfire. You’re the best !!
I just learned how to make this Tripod in trail life!!
I learned a whole bunch of knots from you, then went on to watch Dave, Matt and the guys. But you, Shawn, have the greatest sense of humor of the group and will always be my favorite. Thanks for everything.
I really like the way you demonstrated things in this video good job
Nice. Thank you. I'm a big fan of yours.me and my son watch your vidos. Thank you for teaching us🙏
This deserves more attention.. with high lumber and supply prices this is a great money-saver
I'm disabled with a disabled child. I am also a very late bloomer. I have just started each of us a bag with things off your Amazon page. Thank you for making this easy to learn. I may have (hopefully) convinced my adult son to prepare too. Thank you! Your hard work is appreciated.
Only you can stop you. Glad to hear that you are getting out there.
Check out his walmart video. It’s fantastic and gets you set up relatively inexpensively even if you buy everything. If you can, practice, practice, practice in your back yard or basement or even the family room. Make it easy on yourself at first and if your desire increases take on more challenges. You get just as warm lighting a commercial fire log with a bic lighter as you do collecting and processing timber and lighting it with a ferro rod. Good luck, you’ve found an excellent channel to get you started and make you better.
😄Thx! Think I'll let the kids clean the house whilst I swing in the back yard!🌲⛺
I love your survival skills and knowledge
Damnit! I just bought my first tent. Now, I'm gonna have to get everyone a hammock.
Gear and skills. I like it. As usual, I learned something. Thank you.
I enjoy your videos and subscribed. There has been a void on Cable TV and the internet since R. Lee Ermey passed away last year, and I think you would be a great person to fill his boots for hosting programs, etc.
Dude, that was just awesome and could tell the construction of the tripod and ridge pole we’re definitely on point. Thanks CC for some more great ideas and knowledge. ATB Mike.
Excellent instruction and demonstration.
Very Nice. I have been doing this for years when at public camping sites (taking the grand kids camping) . Mostly because there are no trees in the immediate camp area , and I have gotten a lot of people that come by ,and give the ol' Thumbs up.
Solid video. Great content for the community. Valuable period of instruction.
Looks like another good backyard project for me😎
Well done Corporal. This is the best solution to this problem I have ever seen. David Pearson showed a partial solution some time ago but it wasn't as complete as what you showed here. Your lashing skills are very good. I do prefer the constrictor knot to the timber hitch. That being said, I absolutely applaud your knowledge of knots and your rope skills. You and Dave Cantebury are both masters of that art. Thanks.
i knew if anyone had done what i was looking for it was going to be you. TY i only need one set of poles. this is going to work great. now i can camp in my back yard.
This is "right on time" as I started researching hammock camping without trees. This opened all sorts of ideas. Thanks for your videos. Very educational and useful..Jim
I love that you made this video. I went exploring in a new area 2 years ago. I found an old mine shaft that had a buggy enough entrance that I was able to set up camp in it. But because it was made of brick I had nothing to hang my hammock to. So I built the same thing but in a smaller scale. It was awesome plus it got the job done with very little effort! Thank you for sharing this
I bought a hammock the other day, so much more comfortable,as long as you don’t fall out
this would be a perfect setup for where I live. The majority of the trees are to small in diameter to support traditional style of a hammock set up thanks Corporal. Enjoy your week
Hey Corporal Kelly, I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and I throughly enjoy them. One of my favorite things you do is show how to lash. I love the way you make every lash lay in its spot.. I’m an old Eagle Scout and watching you brings back great memories. I do still get out and camp. Thank you for your service and thank you for your videos ✌️🇺🇸🇺🇸🏕🏕
Another great video and just in time for my new hammock. Your intro made me wonder if one tree and one tripod would work.
Excellent job!
Outstand tripods!!
I believe there is a method that you do not need a ridge pole. You can hang the hammock pulling down the tripod not hanging on the tripod.
Keep the good job.
Outstanding!!
Wagner Mendel The only way to do that is if you were to stake it out. You really need the ridgepole to deal with the compression forces of the hammock pulling toward the center.
Shawn,,,, that’s One of the Most Useful Configurations Yet,,!!!! The Tri-pod is a Excellent and Versatile piece of Structure. Thanks for showing me another application for its use. Excellent Information and Instruction,,!!!!
Joshua
Definitely vote this in the top 3 best videos you've posted. Top 2 on all of UA-cam for this specific subject matter. Outstanding video.
Good stuff, Kelly! I am currently trying to figure out how to build a tensahedron hammock stand in the field. Turns out, I am *NOT* an engineer. 😆 S/F
Lol, know that one!
Good demo. Simple, direct and short. I made one like this using military surplus aluminum radio communication masts. 42 inch sections. Ok for car camping only, of course.
Thank you Shawn Kelly!
Great video. I’m like you. I’ll always pick a hammock over the ground if I’ve got the option and this gives me another option. Thanks.
Awesome. We need some help for our hammocks
I did something similar in Algonquin park was super comfortable camping and light weight! Thanks for the videos.
Nice job.. i believe you could make them to do work like you would a Gin pole. .Would be good for rescuin someone over a small cliff o or like a small adandond well in the woods. l lifting heavy items in a pinch. might need a bigger diameter for that. Would probably need a thicker rope also.
i learned the gin pole basics in US Army Egigneers course in 1977. . Also for rescue , the FD training as a civilian. Multitasking stuff you just did. I just forget the gin pole lashings though Don't remember if they would be the same.
Very cool.
Great work.
Not generally useful for me.
But a nice thing to know how to build a weight supporting tripod.
Outstanding👍👍.
As usual, hands on and no bullshit 👍❤
This is badass brotha. I have my Scout troop build that exact same setup minus the hammock as a shelter building exercise for a larger tarp shelter that's big enough to fit everyone in the troop.
Excellent video!!
This is outstanding. I'm hitting the coast and doing a couple day hike on the beach. I hadn't intended to bring my hammock, but, I'm going to give this a go with drift wood. Thank you for going more in depth on the tripod lashing. Please keep the instructional vids coming!
I'd love to hear how the driftwood tripod works out. I live in northern California near the coast and it would be useful.
This is a perfect for a young boy scout learning project. Thank you. I don't mean to sound like this is a childish project, quite the contrary. The details are clear, easy to follow and thorough which is exactly what the scouters need. I will definitely give this a try out as soon as the weather breaks here where I am.
Its just awsome corporal thankyou 👍
This is also an amazing adaptation for a lean-to shelter. Thanks Corporal.
Awesome video. I can’t wait to try this next time I go camping.
Cant wait to see the next video, keep up the good work
It's funny you did this becuae I have 2 speaker tripod stands I thought about using a long with a poll across the top to hang my hammock lol. If just keep the stands in my car:)
Thank you for sharing sir, and for your service!
Great vid. I'm a tent guy but always interested in how a proper hammock should function. Outstanding!
another outstanding information delivery, thanks Corporal.
Beautiful work. Awesome instructional videos. Hearing the rain hitting the tarp sounds so relaxing. I’m going to have to set up a hammock and tarp the next time it rains. Keep them videos coming sir. Thank you.
Trying to find limbs like that in Australian bush is a nightmare lol. Great drills Cpl. Onwards.
Outstanding setup.
Hey Corporal, Thanks for the clear and detailed instructions. Just finished setting this one up after debarking some maple from a friend. I wanted a more permanent but not too complicated stand that fit the look of my xeriscaped yard. Looks great. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Awesome video , and great problem solving great job as always
Very helpful sir. Love your videos! Can't wait to try it. 👍
Now that's something I am going to try
I love this video, it addresses a situation that I have encountered several times before when looking for a perfect place to set up my hammock. This is my next project to work on. Thank you again for AWESOME video tutorials!!!
Thank you! I really appreciate the way you show knots, etc.
Outstanding Corporal
GREAT VIDEO! I I'm taking my boys on a catch and cook in Big Slough Wilderness next month. I've been worried about the proximity of suitable trees for my youngest's hammock. I didn't want him to be out too far from where my hammock is. This will be perfect to set him up relatively close! Thanks a bunch!
Prior to finding your channel i was just a hiker, but now after binging these episodes for the last few weeks I really want to start getting out there and making things like this. Thank you for peeking my interest, your channel is great and i look forward to watching more of your content as time goes on!
You make it look soooo easy ........and that's okay lol
Seeing the different ways to use knots is always interesting. Options are good.
This is going to be helpful! Thank you!
Good channel find 😊
Excellent and useful video! Thank you!
You inspired me to build one . Somewhat simple. Thanks for all the videos!
Really love these videos. I always learn something and whenever possible, try to employ your lessons. Great library of information on your channel!
Sweet. I want to build a back yard version of this.. Since i live in a desert i may make this mobil so i can take it with me.
Excellent vid as usual.
Right on brother! These tripods do work greatly for those that haven't tried.I have 2 set up in my yard for hammocks considering the few trees in our yard are to big in diameter to tie off with. Working on a perma shelter down behind my place which is connected to a national Forrest, plan to do the same there though for dual hammocks!
Great video! Nice set up! Thanks for sharing!
Who dat Gyrene, dat be dat Gyrene? Who dat? Who dat? Who dat Gyrene? Semper Fi.
Thanks for sharing, great information 👍
So now you know why I tent camp.....my body weight. My preference for a ridge line and tarp over my tent has been a drama finding a suitable spot. A tree and a tripod, or 2 tripods in an open area fixes the issue. Outstanding.
very nice setup!
This is a Turtle Dog setup. This has been around for a while. Good video on building this in the woods. Search "turtle dog" on YT.
Very useful information! Thank you!
I know what I'm building come summertime. Thanks again sir!
Dude.. wish I knew this sooner. Could have used them more then once..
Just one side of this would be useful if you find one good tree but not a second..
Really good point! You only have to make one!
Outstanding! Great instruction, as usual. Amazing to see how that pocket boy goes through lumber, especially for its size and portability. Fantastic saw, a real bargain at the asking price, and anyone who doesn't own one already should get one through Corporal Kelly's influencer page.
Awesome vid!!! Tripod hammock poles are a outstanding idea!! Thanks again for the tip!!
Hammocks and a bushcraft style turtle dog stand. Yup I knew it would be a good video seeing the thumbnail 👍👍
I feel like some time back I asked if you could do something like this. So thank you. Again another awesome skills video. Keep doing what you do. Much respect and appreciation.
Hanging around with new meaning 🇦🇺👍 see you on your next ..thanks for the video input..good to get the boots up for awhile
Outstanding!
Nicely done Corp. Kelly! 👍.. You gave me a great idea for my back yard for testing, displaying & set-ups for future videos. All I need is 4x4's & heavy duty eyebolts. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome job mate !!
This is really useful! Been pondering if a hammock would be a good option for a few day thru hike... and looks like it will be. Thanks!!
If only you were available on your Amazon influencer page all of my bushcraft and survival troubles would be cured instantly! Lol. Seriously though you are a pro and make it look easy. Sawing timber is hard work.
