When i heard these facts 2 years ago, i was upset by it. I am in Albuquerque, N.M. & soon to be 70. When i finished High School in '72 i was in Southern Iowa. Same culture shock...It took my lifetime for Navajos to be wired into grid. Hard to believe. I started life near Buffalo,NY with all modern options. I have witnessed much. Blessings to all here❤

I am glad for them. I was out there last September with temps at 112 F., the heat was no joke, could kill someone if no way to get cool. It is beautiful there though. The people deserve water, free of uranium, and electricity and to be able to have shelters that work with the environment and are affordable. Having a bill for electricity is a pain when it could be captured for free.

American citizens have no idea how badly our first nations have been treated. The powerlines run right through the Navajo nation.

The coal mines there don't benefit the people. The electricity just goes to far off cities.

Contact the power company and request that you get power. If they decline then contact your mayor, your congress person and your senator. Still no results, contact the local TV news and your newspaper. Make a video an post it online.

what is really sad is that this could have been done with solar which would have eliminated the monthly electric bill

    Navajo people give, give, give.
Coal mine, generating station in AZ, -both used Navajo land and precious underground water to keep their business running. Navajos still have to pay despite those things come from the Navajos.
    WW2, uranium mining
-both used our men and land.
water for Gallup, etc., list goes on and on.
    Nothing in return.

Yes! The challenges of all nations are the same. Services the people want require funds the people may not have. Thank you. Stay safe.

It's strange everyone is trying to get off the grid to avoid paying a bill but the rez is just getting a bill. Electric and water is a must but solar would have been better...a lot of sun generates energy for the solar panels.💚

Being nice here but in the video it looks like a house far away, possibly miles away from neighbors or towns. The landscape is natural, your not farming, its not a business. Traditionally Native people lived in groups, in villages. The electrical company is a business and are looking to make a profit. It could cost them more to run the electricity than they will get in a return. Someone posted that it would be possible to build a solar farm in the desert that could produce enough power for several states.

Depends on each familys lifeways, some lived in groups with clan native communities, most of all traveled with the seasons with livestock, summer homes, and winter homes, moving from the farm near rivers to make camp in fall and winter seasons, based in the nature of mother earth and father sky nature of the growing cycle and the stars. Holistic lifestyle of human nature and the imperialism fixed of the cycle of life in birth to old age.❤

If I buy land that is offgrid, I have to pay the enormous expense of having power run out to it. Where I live is my choice. They are making the same decisions, but eventually, they get power run out to them for free. Do they even have to pay for the power that they use? Im thinking not. They are indeed the lucky ones.

@Renee-xo8hk I stand by it. Where they live today, is their choice. A very dear friend is the daughter of a Chief. She doesn't live on a reservation. She is an awesome person, has a beautiful home in a nice area and works two jobs. Good on her! She does a lot of fund raising for her people too.

Still no electricity and no water on personal use. It cost money for connection. The tribal members donget free connection. Churches cone on the Navajo nation they are connected and ready for Sunday serves not the tribal members. Chapters houses are to handle the communities and supplies the communities members with resources but it never happens. Old old news on the Navajo Nation.
