The F-5 Tiger-II, a fighter plane that doesn't get near the respect it has earned. The sound of those twin Pontiac M-39 revolver cannons is pure music.
Bonjour du Canada two sounds britttttt craaaaakkk de first sound explosion
in the cartridge second sound when the projectille pass the sound barrier on
american ground attack airplale the A-10 the third sound when the projectille hit
the target (sorry for my poor english)
@@mauriceouellette7514 you put it very eloquently mon 'ami. ^_^
F5 Tiger III op👀👀
It earned it's respect through a number of ways, being so forward thinking in design and having a huge influence on fighter aerodynamic design for decades. First with LERX, leading edge flaps (as opposed to slats), substantial body lift with it's flat bottom. The F/A-18 was itself born out of expanded F-5 design studies, which is reflected in the fuselage configuration.
Never saw Mig28s this close before
“I can’t shoot this son of a bitch, let’s see if we can have a little fun with him!”
Jacob Zondag Holy shit there's two of em
Talk to me Goose...
Mav!?! what are you doing??... 0_o Keeping up relations Goose... ~_^
love it.
I love how they turn and dissapear over the mountain it looks so cool.
Insane how it immediately goes where the pilot points it. Crazy maneuverable
An elegant weapon for a more civilized age...
Ha ha nice :)
cheap too.
Being alone in the air in one of those has got to be the best feeling in the world.
You mean The 2nd best feeling 🍆💦👌
@@dnlcast2 you're right, second best after being alone in an F-20 Tigershark
@@dnlcast2 silence, virgin.
Hats off to these pilots. The F-5 has a really really simple gunsight with no fancy electronics. Getting rounds on target with such short bursts takes immense skill.
It’s cool that you can see the f18 in its design
Mini-BRRRTT.
Shoeg4zer Thr sound of music.
Shoeg4zer I WAS GONNA SAY THE SAME WTF!?
The long lost brother of the a 10
Like all modern fighter aircraft, that have similar guns, now? Like the M39,M61 Vulcan, and Mauser BK-27?
A 10 WILL STILL BE KING
Still such a beautiful aircraft, nothing but love for the F-5.
First flew in 1959, introduced in 1962. Simply incredible.
Indeed, especially the T-38 which is still in service.
The f5 still looks great!👍
But only fly in good weather...
I love those little "burps" 👍👍🇺🇸 Brings back lots of memories.
I love the sounds it makes cutting though the air, goes to show in the original Top Gun that was the pure sound
I really Still love the F-5's. Small Reliable easy and cheap to maintain. 6:48 People watv on top if the Mountain????? 😮
I wish IAI, Dassault, or Northrop-Grumman developed a fighter based off this frame (and improving the frame too). It would have the capabilities of a contemporary 4th gen fighter (maybe competing with SU35s & F18s), and yet be easily maintained.
yes its another spectator view you can go there
@@tankieflanker4119 They DID! It became the US Navy's F18 Hornet.
@@tankieflanker4119 There's the F-20 Tigershark, but no one bought it.
Yeah...😥
The sexiest, most elegant and beautiful plane ever built.
0:40 I can hear 'Empire of The Sun' in background
Always thought the f5 was a sexy, sporty craft and the swiss 'jocks sure know how to drive 'em. What a great video. Keep those puppies flying.
Hard to say which I'd rather fly, a P51 or an F5, or even an F20.
Wish we had a thousand of these on each coast. Long live free Switzerland! The F-5 Is an awsome aircraft.
agree ...on everything !
Your wish is granted because Switzerland is coast-free!
Yes its good aircraft
Just looks like a dart! Ever since I saw this jet, I've loved it!
Thank you for these awesome videos!
My pleasure bud. Thanks for watching and for the comment ;)
epic little Plane i was on the Axalp too and i was impressed by the sound of those gatling guns from the Fa 18 butt the f 5 tiger 20 mm gave me the chills i wished switzerland had the f20 tigershark then they would have another Cat in the skies over switzerland
F-5 ones of my fav of my list best looking and aerodynamics
till this day the F5 Tiger remains to be one of my favourite planes right next to the F14 , i just love it
So do I, so do I.
My uncle was an F-5 pilot. When I was a kid, sometimes my uncle took me to look the F-5 from very close distant.
F5 variants and never made f20 are beautiful jet in my eyes..
I agree. Such a pretty fighter. Thanks for dropping by 👍
Such a classically beautiful jet fighter. I’ve thought so for decades.
I agree, love the little F-5.
No mountains were harmed in the making of this video. :-)
😂😂😂
The plane is tiny compared to F-15/16/22 ..My father, a retired Air Force Vet, describe the T-38/F-5 as a go-cart with 2 engines that can go mach 1.4 ( T-38 is a little slower Mach 1.1)
Andew70
F-5E mach 1.7
F-5G ( also call F-20) mach 2.0
Small target and easy to maintain. My country used to fly them.
love this new dcs map, when does it release? :p
In 1968, while on a solo bicycle trip, on my way to Interlaken, I watched these guys (or their fathers, i guess), firing at a raft on the far side of the lake. Splashes around the watercraft. Boats on the side of the lake near the road, were plodding along like nothing was happening. This wasn't an air show, just practice, I guess. Amazing sight, hard to forget.
I have heard that the F-5 is crap, outdated, etc. but what i see is a beautiful plane, nimble, fast, with great aerodynamics, certainly outdated but i think with modern avionics and electronics could still be a great interceptor. Not for nothing is the best agressor plane in the Top gun school.
A good looking plane is timeless.
The F-5 is a good little plane that can definitely punch above its weight. It still has a place at the table. But if you're shopping for a new multi-role jet fighter, there's really no reason to not go for its successor instead, the F/A-18, other than cost.
@T38 Talon - The F-5 has always been a twin engine aircraft.
@T38 Talon Brazillian F-5 shot down an F-15 in the Red Flag 08-3 exercise. The F-5 did a good escort job. Their refueling airplane was not shot down in that exercise.
They do operate some 55 F-5 EM and FM and retired other 8 to get pieces from.
Last modernized by Embraer was delivered in 2013. It will fly till 2020. It will be replaced by Grippen NG.
@@AthosRac ou você é muito antenado nas coisas do Brasil ou você mora no Brasil ou vc é brasileiro
Loved flying this Freedom fighter before, although it’s outdated, its simplicity made me a real fighter pilot...most of the inputs were mine, not by computers. I felt that I was in a WW2 in a jet age....flying through in between the mountains were full of thrills & excitements,
Cap
Fantastic ! When firing I am guessing we hear the crackle of the supersonic rounds passing first, and then the sound of the detonations in the aircraft cannon. Am I correct ?
I think that's the rounds hitting target first.
You hear the rounds breaking the sound barier first, then the sound of the cannon that fired them.
It seems as though there are 3 sequences. A soft noise that occurs when you see the blast from the cannon, a second louder brrrt, then the last loudest.
Ah nm. I guess it’s the rounds passing, the cannon firing, then the impacts on the target.
The plane is close to the photographer, so the sound arrives from the aircraft first.
I don’t know why but I’ve always loved these little planes
That was the plane that played the MIG in Top Gun.
Yep! :D
brings back so many memories
Fast forward to 4 minutes, 37 seconds to see what they are shooting at. Cool video, thanks for posting!
Cheers :)
the cannons on the F-5 sound sooooooooooooooooo clean
🐯NORTHROP F-5 TIGER🐯
❤️MY ABSOLUTE FAV PLANE
pssssh, those aren't f-5s, those are mig 28s
RoteSchwalbe I see your a man of culture as well
Why didn't they load tracers in the cannons? Would've looked way cooler. Not like there's any danger of starting fires on these barren mountain sides.
00:42 El líder de la formación hace el paso perfecto por sobre la montaña. ¡¡¡¡¡Bravo-Zulu!!!!
Simple but elegant!
I wish Philippine Air Force kept their F-5’s and upgraded the avionics, engin etc..
It would be cool seeing these F-5’s fly with the FA-50’s
I’m not a furry i swear or buy the f20 tiger
That move up to just about clear the mountain top looked insanely dangerous.
A slight miscalculation and that plane would be going into the mountain.
swiss pilots fly the planes so no worries
I love the sound of the engine
would have been a much better plane for the German Air Force than the F-104 Starfighter !
The F-104 was a whole generation of jet fighters earlier. The F-5 actually ejected up.
F-104 and F-5 has trapezoidal wing design but F-5 includes forward LEX to improve vertex generated lift. F-5 later evolved into YF-17 (F-18 prototype) with upper wing mount for extra body lift and longer LEX for improved vertex generated lift.
Trapezoidal wing design influenced YF-23, YF-22, F-22A, F-35A and F-35C (larger wing design from F-35A/B models).
That's very different aircrafts. F-104 mainly was an interceptor, when F-5 designed for maneuvering god fights and ground attacks.
Simplified, if you need defense against soviet heavy bombers and supersonic jets, you need F-104. F-5 needed for other missions, there's variety of them. That's why F-5 have a lot of carried weapon. Guided missiles, unguided rockets, free diving bombs and napalm tanks, etc.
You can thank Lockheed and crooked politicians for that one.
@@Chastity_Belt, actually the Germans used it primarily in low-level attack. The F-5, certainly a better choice for anything but high altitude interception, first flew about a year after Germany chose the Starfughter. So it was never a possible contender. The more capable F-5E like these Swiss a/c didn't take to the skies until 1972!
Beautiful agile jets
Nice performance!
0:46 the people on the mountain, that's the viewpoint I wanted.
That was excellent 👍 thoroughly enjoyed it .😁
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for dropping by :)
That looks sweet . what is the maximum height they go to and why ?
I love them overbanking and slipping down over the ridge of the mountain peaks!!! So metal.

Cet avion est d'une elegance sans pareil.
What other jet plane do you see barrel rolling mountain tops ???
I've always liked the F-5
Kinda regret that the USAF didn't buy any of the F-20 Tigersharks or even F-5E/F. Perhaps a few would have been good jets for boosting numbers of reserves...
The USAF had a shed load of them Larry. I used to watch them at RAF Alconbury in England as USAF aggressors. Awesome jets! I think the NS Navy used the F models?
@@UKAviationMovies yes, you're right of course. Lemme rephrase that, I meant as operational units. I feel like perhaps a few squadrons of F-20s could have helped get the type established, and since it really was low cost, perhaps help it in foreign sales especially to poorer allied nations. Places like Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Romania, anybody who's going to struggle to afford even an F-16. At least it would have been something, and it was fast, faster than the F-16. Maybe the better option for a country that's going to have to shoot a few missiles and immediately run away or eject? Lol.
@@larrythorn4715 Ahhh yes, I totally agree with you there. The F-5 is a cool little jet, the US aggressors were ace but to see some frontline F-5s or F-20s would've been great. The Swiss ones are not going to be around much longer so they're going to become a rare jet pretty soon :(
It is nice design better than the other F-5s
awesome!!
When the late, great F-14 driver, Dale Snodgrass, was asked about his favorite aircraft to fly he answered, "The F-5".
BRRRRRttt....and the damage IS very, very BIG
A most beautiful and elegant plane.
Let's not get carried away.
Tell me that's not a fun way to spend an afternoon at work!
F5 is the design take off for F17 by Northrop with leading edge extension which in now the F18
the tiger series planes, best looking planes ever
Oh to much rudder......well that reporter is finally gonna make the front page.
0:46 what the hell seriously? that altitude from the mountain dude
At a certain point, you have to imagine it becomes an extension of your body. It sounds cliche, but just as you can get skilled at a video game, pilots get skilled at flight. im sure these guys have thousands, if not tens of thousands of hours in these.
Are those people at the top of that mountain as the jet past over the top!?
Yes indeed they are.
The firing area is off limits, the top of the mountain being part of the closed sector.
This is why the jets fly a very limited path and fire.
is that area public too?
@@siemensohm once a year only, yes.

This thing always beat the f14 and f15 in close range dog fighting training. It would act as the chase plane and the f14/f15 could never lock on because it was so agile.
