Using your advice, I’ve actually built a team and went online with and saw some success. Won my first ever ranked game which felt great. I took an existing team, watched a team report video on how it functions and then removed/changed stuff after play testing. Then after more of that, I took the concept of that team and added my own spin on it with some personal favourite pokemon. Even used you ev spread video to outspeed a modest gholdengo without fully investing in my speed. I want to sincerely thank you for making this video series. I've recently started playing VGC (after playing the TCG on and off since 2010, needed a change but thats a long story for another day) and I've been trying to figure everything out, until the Algorithm Gods graced my feed with your channel/videos. I had a general idea about how VGC is played with being around it/casually watching it over the years but your videos explained everything so incredibly succinct and clear, I can't thank you enough. hi! im relatively new to VGC and still learning a lot of the ins and outs. can you explain why you invest 4 EVs into defense and sp. def. on some of the spreads versus just investing those 8 extra EVs all into HP? love the content btw +1
Hey, love to see new players! I have actually made a whole video on advanced EV mechanics. If you're interested feel free to check it out as I explain it there along with other small details and the process of building an advanced spread.
I tried it myself and I ended up with a pretty fun team I'm no vgc player but I play showdown sometimes I decided to try and make a reg h snow team since a lot of the meta is weak to ice So I started with alolan ninetails and cetitan as my core weather duo They're both weak to fire, steel, rock, and fighting, so I added araquanid to cover those weaknesses and to block make it rain with wide guard Then I added garchomp so I could better hit steel and fire types since araquanid is better for support and to have another offensive pokemon I needed some speed control and some fire type coverage so I added talonflame to set up tailwind and to hit fast and hard before opening up a slot for another mon. It also works well with garchomps earthquake. With my 2 main cores rounded out I needed a grass type support, so I added rillaboom as a pivot who can add terrain and use fake out I won't mention all the steps after but belly drum ice spinner cetitan behind Aurora veil with slush rush is a deadly combination and the rest of the team works nicely together
Man love to see the whole process laid out from someone else's perspective, super cool! The meta does seem to be trending toward ice weaknesses again with dragonite being very common and ursaluna on the rise
Great Video! Thank you so much for explaining how Teambuilding works. The most insane thing is: I used a very similar team like you showed in this video. My team is Garchomp, Dragonite, Alola Ninetails, Crorverknight, Sneasler and Incin. I wanted to make a cool Dragon Offensive Team with sneasler couching, and croverknight for tailwind while a9 use Auroa Veil. Unfortunately, this team ended up not being good because it focuses not on being a balanced or offensive. It trys to be both but that doesn't work. I feel like my core with couching was a fail. My problem is speed control. Thankfully, your video explained the importance of speed pretty well, so I can understand that. I really didn't knew that Tr is a thing for speed control. This video is pretty helpful!
@@Halit-Seven Love to hear you learned something! I think Corviknight is very strong in the current metagame and I have seen coaching have good success as well. Personally I find it is a harder to use type of team due to putting all your eggs in one basket by using coaching vs attacking twice.
I have a question though: How did you work out those EV spreads? Those EV spread seems rather complicated compared to the standard 252/252 spread. Did you test those spread against a hypothetical team or you made those stats based on how much damage a Pokemon could take and how much they could dish out against a particular Pokemon of your opponent?
@@japethspeaketh7034 Good question! I believe I said the Incineroar spread had enough attack EVs to OHKO Gholdengo with a knock off. My Advanced Guide to EV Spreads video is a great explanation of making complex EV spreads and it includes a few examples!
@@erensy641 Thanks! I've been playing for a couple years so the knowledge builds. I have streamed a bit way back but don't plan to right now. I think time is better spent making videos for now at least.
Short for calculation! Checking calcs is often used to refer to doing the math and seeing if Pokémon can deal or take enough damage vs specific threats.
I got top 1000 in the GC by team building around garchomp double dragon idea and I also started with Dragonite and switched to tera fire hydreigon, definitely garchomp a best partner currently for vgc right now.
Great question, I do explain it fully in my EV guide video. In short for this the first 4 EVs spend in a stat give one point, but after the first 4 you need 8 for another point. So putting 20 in HP gives 3 HP/total stats. But 12 in HP gives 2 HP and 4 in each def gives 1 def and 1 spdef each, for a total of 4 stats. Just optimizing for an extra stat point.
I wish showdown or the in game ladder gave you stats for how many times you bring each mon and maybe even each individual mon's winrate in that session
Good video. Im ngl the team you built is a little outdated for the current meta, but the principles are good regardless I would have a section talking about a mix of physical and special attackers
@@Joeybanananas The meta changes fast for sure. I was using usage stats from Louisville which was a while back but it's what I had when writing the script haha.
