A Retrospective Look at Regulation H
Regulation H has come to a close. With Regulation G around the corner I decided to take a retrospective look at Regulation H. It was a very unique format being halfway through a games lifecycle and introducing bans to many common Pokémon, the metagame turned out partly as expected but also partly unexpected.
Today we go over how the meta played out, including what Pokémon and what players performed the best.

Pokemon VGC Draft League Power Rankings
this channel is an underrated gem the screen texts throughout the video, although i have to rewind many times, is an amazing idea and these are hilarious keep it up
Appreciate it, the screen texts are a lot of fun to work on.
I wish there were more ways to punish and counter the top single restricteds. what if there was a rule set with 1 single restricted box legendary, and only 2 mythical pokémon. would that be a fun?
Mythicals are very interesting to consider. A lot of them are pretty middling or bad, but some of them would be so problematic like Darkrai or Pecharunt I think they would be unhealthy overall.
I Really hope Reg H comes back soon, it was the funniest Regulation so far (for me at least)
I love weaville so when ssneasler came out i added it to my teams nice to know it has higher use than Gholdengo at times
I love how the design kept the asymmetry of sneasler.
Reg H was truly an amazing regulation, my only complaint being that Sneasler exists
the final with marco and wolfey was legit one of the best games i saw
Agreed! Stay tuned, next video in the works is an in-depth analysis of the match.
@@TheDelybird good luck on the project! your videos seem great, keep up the good work (:
I just want to add to the conversation that this was aa great, well made, informative video. I hope you keep up the fantastic work!
Thanks! Appreciate it, expect more to come.
W video subbed
Reg h without sneasler would have been nice. That rng bs Was kinda annoying. 😢
thanks for the recap, good video!
As a viewer of the format, reg H has been the best competitive ive gotten tonwatxh im a pong time. Ive always thought legendaries have been a sufocating influence on late gen metas.
Big fan of reg h as well, love to see it.
Really good video
watching this as a radical red player
I hate the Legendaries format. Absolutely hate it. I never felt so restricted in a competitive format before, where I have to use teams I don't even like to place. Makes me feel icky
Yea reg G is pretty restricting. Only using one restricted mon is pretty cursed, hopefully we get back to double soon.
Where did you get the Iron Bundle sprites?
I linked the website in the description if you want to check it out. Under PKMD sprites.
@@TheDelybirdah should have checked the description. Thank you fellow Iron Bundle fan 🐧🔮
It was so nice to have a break from the chaos of reg G. But still, it felt like we went nowhere, since we went right back to reg G. Instead, since maybe we are on our last year, we do a mythical format with Pokemon like melmetal and shaymin allowed, similar to what SW/SH did
Yea it is weird going back to a format we already had, not sure that's ever happened before.
this is the first season I played after long years of absent and I’m kinda afraid of it being gone next season
@@Zastavam21 I feel ya, such a drastic format change can be rough, but I think reg G has a lot to offer in terms of skill development that other formats don't offer!
don’t quit
I only pick Eeveelutions

Great video, never seen your channel before but im def subbing. One thing though; Wolfe Glick's name is just pronounced "Wolf", Wolfey is just his username lol
@@hoennfanboy True, I guess he has just become synonymous with Wolfey I didn't think about it.
Reg H has truly been a breath of fresh air for the VGC scene. Sad to see it go.
Man reg h was fun while it lasted and i finally Got to use 2 of my favorites (tyranitar and kommo-o) on the same team without having to worry about flutter mane absolutely destroying me
It was good while it lasted, hopefully gen 10 isn't too far away!
That's a awesome thumbnail.
Thanks bro!
8:58 can't blame you for not pronouncing Gdańsk correctly, but it still hurt my soul a bit. I really liked this recap even though I don't play competitive pokemon. Seeing the format evolve in this video was great. Especially the Toronto section, it really got me excited!
Haha I tried my best! Is Guh-dine-sk correct? The way Google said it? I attended Toronto so I had a bit more of a personal connection to it, along with it being the final regional I think added to the excitement!
@TheDelybird It's pretty much as Google said it, but without -uh- part. It's hard to say it with no practice so I recommend sticking with Guh-dinesk.(saying it fast enough also works) Thankfully Gdańsk is one of the easier cities to say correctly.
Great watch! Love this kinda content
Super hot take, not a big fan of Reg H. While Reg H is the format that got me into vgc in my 15 yrs of playing Pokémon, I will say I find Reg G more bearable. Reg H gives u the illusion of free choice, when in reality ur stuck to using counters against that stupid Archaludon & Pelipper combo. Because of the lack of legendaries, a lotta Pokemon don’t really stand a chance against threats like Archaludon, Sneasler, & Ursaluna. At least in Reg G, every Pokemon is super op to the point that it’s balanced.
Shhhh, you aren't supposed to make sense here
I have seen that take before so you aren't along. I would have to disagree though. Although mons like sneasler and archaludon are super strong, especially after researching for this video and going over usage stats, archaludon was never number 1 usage. I think 5th or 6th was it's highest. If it was as dominant as many people felt it was it would have taken at least top 3 at some point. Despite me not being the biggest reg G fan I believe it helps build skills that other formats just don't make you develop as much so it's still worth playing 100%. It's still fun IMO just not as much as regional dex formats.
Laughs in incin+rillaboom+urshifu core in reg g
H was super fun, the only format I was really into tournaments Most of the format I spent playing glaceon which was super fun and I got multiple top 16 and a top 4 in some big online tournaments My only gripe with it is that rain was waay too overpowered its impossible to resist basculegion and ohko Archaludon and most of the time you have to choose one to ko
@@dolbaeb3447 Gotta respect the glaceon. Rain was crazy strong for sure, can't argue that.
@TheDelybird yea, was helping my friend prepare a good glaceon team for toronto, unfortunately she went from 3-0 to 3-3 after meeting Brenda's zheng, that dude has some kind of aura)
incredible content as always 🔥🔥
Bro I've had a blast with Reg H, it was the only format that I made competent teams with my favorite pokemon like Tyranitar and Gallade. It's such a shame that we're going back to the legedaries because now I'm 100% I will not make at least 1 team that will adapt to my style
@@FenseiSax Glad to hear, yea Gallade was a super strong pick I found. Tyranitar even won a regional!
So long reg h. You will be missed
i won’t hear of this zapdos slander 😤 most consistent legendary of all time he’s good 9 generations later
Hey man, I'm a Zapdos lover too but unfortunately Electro Shot is tough competition. I am glad he saw some play in reg e/f though.
@ i personally like him as i’ve found his bold set to be a solid answer to urshifu, at least for singles.
californ IA🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Watching this video gave me the most enjoyment I’ve experienced watching a video in a long while. I’m going to my first regional soon, so I’ve been trying to watch a lot of VGC videos, and often they aren’t particularly enjoyable. This was such a breath of fresh air, with it being informative, interesting, and visually appealing, as well as having a great thumbnail and a very engaging speaking voice. Cannot emphasize enough how good this was, keep it up.
Thanks! I found the same thing when I started playing, there wasent really any educational and entertaining VGC content so I decided to try and fill that niche, glad you enjoy! What regional are you going to?
@TheDelybird San Antonio; it’s less than a day’s drive from where I live and it’s one of the only upcoming weekends I’m completely free on. I’m pretty pumped to finally get into competitive Pokémon; I just played the entire main Scarlet story in less than a day just so I could get a Koraidon to transfer to my main Violet save file.
@Strixeon Awesome! That's a fast playthru, all the best to you. And make sure to have fun!
@@TheDelybird thanks! I will!
primarina is an absolute Fraud. Love to see it. Thank you Gdanks
So true
This format was quite fun for me. During reg G I took a break from ladder to play through the gameboy and DS era games, so when I saw my yellow team GOAT, Exeggutor rank so well in a regional, it gave me an idea to see how many other mons from my in game teams I could make work. I'm happy to report that out of the 84 mon legal in reg H, 36 have appeared on successful teams, with 6 more currently in the works. I'll keep busting out and testing teams til the format ends on January 5th
Love to see it, despite the high usage of the top 10 mons there was still much more diversity than most formats!
I think another point worth mentioning in reg Hs favor is that the lack of legendaries means putting teams together in the actual game is a LOT less time intensive than most other formats. It was enough to get me to actually try VGC for the first time, because the time investment required to get a team together in a lot of other formats was the main thing stopping me from dipping ny toes. I had a blast!
True! That's a great point I didn't think about making this. The only issue I had was getting blood moon Ursaluna since you only get one per save. But otherwise teams were a lot easier to make. Even most hisuian Pokemon you can trade and breed for.
they give you most legendaries from most games at the end of Scarlett
@@victornavarette8542Uhhh, the genies? Calyrex? Like, some of the most important and centralizing pokemon in VGC in the past regulations just aren't in that list?
@@victornavarette8542where??
I really love to see your videos. I hope you grow a lot, 'cause your material is truly awesome.
Thanks! Consistency is key I'll keep at it.
It's crazy how much kyogre can hold on even after so much time
Btw at 11:52 it says "Scaramento" instead of Sacramento, but ignoring minor flaws this is a great video, though i didn't like Reg H at all due to the rng and factors i generally disliked, but i like this video
Haha thanks, always the easier to spell names that get the typos. Looking forward to reg G then if H wasent your favorite?
I'm gonna miss Reg H. The sheer level of creativity on display during this format will not be forgotten easily. Now I return to making Regigigas good again.
Fun video!
I loved reg h
damn, Reg H was a super fun format. This was a really great format to get into competitive with. I'm not super jazzed about Reg G returning but I'm looking forward to continuing. I do wish VGC was bigger in Australia, though.
I was planning on covering the Perth regional but there was no recording of the matches! I would have had to compile the usage stats myself since I couldn't find them either, was super bummed myself about that. I'm not the biggest reg G fan either but I'll still be playing as I think it helps develop gameplay skills that other formats don't.
Reg H could have been more fun if cancer incarnate wasn't in it.
Such high quality! Well done!
that editing is top tier💀
Thanks! This one took more time than the others so glad it's paying off.
@ pls dont stop
I kind of thought reg h was the one I had the most fun with sad it’s gone
Love you vids, really helped make getting into Pokémon fun! Personally I started playing competitive because reg H seemed and is really fun. Would love a video analyzing what’s more important, fun, and what shapes the meta in restricted formats, since it feels quite different
Thanks! Likely doing a video about reg g next since it's coming back.
