  • This is why I hate The Sims 4 in its current state and my future outlook on The Sims franchise (as well as an update on this channel in its state as a Sims channel.)
Disclaimer: I have loved The Sims my ENTIRE LIFE! I will probably never stop playing the game (including The Sims 4) but idk how much longer I can let this game dominate my channel before it just becomes stale.
To reiterate what I said in my video, I never really intended to be a sims youtuber; I always wanted to just be a youtuber in general. There is so much stuff I want to do but I feel I can't because of the direction this channel has taken.
Thank you to everyone who watches and supports my videos! I will continue to make sims videos for you guys (inc. videos with the iconic Shanice Shanice) so dw ;)

You're totally right. I feel playing the Sims 4 is like playing with a doll house, the interesting things are happening in my imagination, not in the game. This didn't happen in ts1, 2 or 3... There was an element of randomness, not everything was under your control, and that's what made those games so enjoyable. With the Sims 4, I feel like playing in a Sandbox, where everything is super happy and under control and... God, I don't like it. I mean, we want crazy things to happen! We want to lose control on certain things, we want challenge!

I honestly don't get the "Sims are Smarter" thing. My sims are smarter in the sims 3 lmao I can stack tasks and they never forget them, they just do it. In fact. That goes for pretty much everything they do. They just do it lmao They don't spend ages route failing or doing a thousand other things that makes me have to micromanage every step they take, and makes them dumb as a sack of bricks. They even send themselves to bed the minute their energy bar hits yellow instead of when it hits red. They're dumb as shit lmao They'd die if I didn't hover over them every second.

Agreed. The Sims 3 are the smartest out of all the games. I went back to it recently to check and it was so refreshing how well Sims 3 sims did what I said. I do enjoy the Sims 4, but my sims literally chat until they piss themselves if I'm not watching them.

I've been playing the Sims 2 extensively these days, and I can totally leave them by themselves and concentrate on other members of the household, and they won't die, and in addition they do things that actually make sense according to their personality and mood.

I just want to say for all of those that don't actually PLAY the game (ppl who just build or just use cas) THIS VIDEO IS NOT TALKING ABOUT YOU! HE IS TOTALLY CORRECT if you ever play the older games first and then play TS4. Look at build buy in TS2 and see how limited it is compared to TS4 and yet TS2 didn't need the bloat that TS4 is. TS4 has little to NO new additions with each new thing it adds. TS4 just adds more and more of the same stuff over and over again and no new gameplay. If I see one more chair or bar I think my brain will explode.

Otherwise it’s just all smiles and rainbows. I hate that some of the fan base thinks by people hating TS4, you hate The Sims.. but no, we see the series has SHARPLY declined with TS4, and want EAxis to do better with the series, cause the series used to be great.

6:00 A few days ago when playing TS3 my sim went into a graveyard mausoleum and got attacked by a bear. She game home all dirty and immediately took off her clothes as soon as she walked in the door and threw them on the floor despite being a neat sim. I COULD NOT STOP LAUGHING. 10 years of playing this game and it still gives me little surprises, and that's why it's so legendary. TS4 never got my attention like that!

  • @MsCastle1996

I've heard people say that TS4 is like a happiness simulator where nothing bad happens and I kind of have to agree. Especially with the My Wedding Stories game pack, putting aside all the bugs and glitches, there's no drama, it's always happily ever after. They accidentally gave us disastrous weddings by delivering a broken product. But if they hadn't and everything worked like a dream, all the weddings would've had happy endings. While yes, sometimes I want that happy ever after, fairytale ending, sometimes I want the person my sim was seeing on the side to burst in during the wedding and expose her ass! Gasps all around, drinks thrown in faces, indignant huffs and furious storming offs! I want bachelor(ette) parties with strippers, I want the iconic dance cage. The Sims is just so safe nowadays that it's boring without mods. I can enjoy playing it for hours and have my sim become a feared drug lord, but console players can't. The Sims are afraid to take risks and release something that might offend people. Well, guess what? People are always going to be offended, no matter what you do. There are billions of people on this planet, with different cultures and cultural norms and you just have to accept that you're going to offend someone. You can't live your life walking on eggshells, waiting for someone to pipe in with "I'M OFFENDED!" because you're not living for yourself if you do that. You're never gonna have fun if all you do is think of all the different ways you could be offending someone. People need to relax and get off twitter, or just literally just use it for memes, and when someone comes at you with "I'M OFFENDED!", just say "cool, good for you".

To me, it feels like you can’t play without a script. There is little to no chance for randomness or in game drama without mods. I can see that they’re trying to help this problem with neighborhood stories but it’s been too long after the release of the game so what’s done is done. The most I do anymore with the game is use it to make characters for drawing or to take screenshots for paintings.

The aspirations are so bland, the neighbourhoods are bare and you cant expand them or make your own worlds. If you have a look at the pre-made sims, most of them have the same fortune aspiration (which is probably the most boring one in the game... just buy a couple of pillars and you've done everything). Theres also just no challenge as you said. It takes a LOT of effort on your part to kill someone off or get abducted or anything. It really is the worst in the series so far 😞

I do feel that pain I have when having a constant want to start the sims 4 and trying again only to get bored after 15 minutes and stop again. What breaks the game mostly for me is that the sims forget friendships and even family, and I constantly bump into horrendous townies with purple skin, cheese blonde afro hair and named 'Fukuda' which according to the gallery is a dirty name (I guess they are not that progressive towards japanese names. Also I TRIED so hard to remove all fukuda's or atleast alter them in cas only to find another one). The roomies my sims got are no more his roomies and just vanished and all sentiments are gone. And then Fuckuda kicks over the bin and I am like 'fukuda it, I'm out'.

The Sims 3 is massive and embodies a lot of what I loved from past games and a sense of extreme freedom in terms of gameplay and customization. Ahead of it's time! And the biggest reason TS4 sucks so much is because how small and poor it feels compared to it's predecessor

I've also watched people play TS1 & TS2 & I certainly wish TS4 had some of the elements of those older games. I don't think you're a downer, it's obvious you love the game and just want it to be as great as it could be - you see the potential & realize it's not achieving it. I completely agree with you on a lot of these points, but especially the storytelling point. The idea that The Sims 4 developers wanted players to "make their own stories" so they decided to just not write any of their own is so fucking absurd to me, because one could argue that using the sims to tell stories started in The Sims 1 and definitely took off in The Sims 2 and 3 precisely _because_ the developers put thought into the often wild and chaotic stories of their own premade characters, leading to players getting inspired to do it themselves. Not to mention how wild and chaotic the first three games in the series were in general (especially Sims 2).
I'm going to ramble a bit about telling stories in the sims and how the games compare with each other. I'll be speaking mostly about the Sims 2 and 3 from this point onwards as, compared to the Sims 1, they're the games I have the most experience with. So when it comes to the storytelling aspects of the games, in my experience, it was easier to improvise a story in my head entirely based off of the events that occur in normal gameplay, whereas in the Sims 4, I have to force something to happen in order to have _anything interesting_ happen at all. When it comes to character, it was easy to judge my sims' character and get a feel for who they were as people in 2 and 3 just by observing their autonomous behavior, and it gave me something to go off of when it came to coming up with my own ideas about them. In the Sims 4, autonomy didn't seem to factor into things too much, I often had to direct them to do things to 'move the story along,' and I needed mods to make their emotions and personality traits mean anything at all. A lot of the characterization of my Sims 4 sims came from mods that affect how emotions and personality traits work and/or my own brain, and very little of it from the (otherwise unmodified) game itself.
In the Sims 2 and 3, the Sims had wants and wishes - the wants were the best iteration of this concept, in my opinion, but the wishes were good too. It was easy to stay motivated to play the game by playing according to what the sims wanted, or if I was feeling sadistic in the Sims 2, what they feared. Wants and wishes were also frequently influenced by a Sim's personality and the world around them. In the Sims 4, whims really don't mean anything - and as far as I know, they're actually _broken_ to the point where they're now disabled by default.
In the Sims 2 and 3, while some mods are pretty much required to fix bugs or enhance certain gameplay elements, the two games feel like they can stand on their own two feet without needing mods to drastically improve the experience. The same cannot be said of the Sims 4. In my honest opinion, the game as it is right now pretty much requires modding to make it worth playing, let alone playable _at all._

I’m a person that very much likes world building and creating my own stories and so I prefer the sims 4 for that reason. The lack of an open world actually makes it significantly easier for me to manage families and I get to construct the lore and legacy as I want. The sims 3 had a lot tighter restrictions for me and I just didn’t have as much fun trying to manage the entire town and worry about whether or not everyone was interacting in accordance with their lore. I had to download so many mods to get the sims 3 to run the way I wanted it to, while all I have on sims 4 is MCCC. I agree that if you rely on gameplay mechanics for world and story building, the sims 4 isn’t even worth playing tbh. Sims 2 is probably the best for that and then the sims 3 is very good too. I just like to construct everything from scratch and so to me, those games offered too many limitations to really be enjoyable.

I also love playing the latest iteration of Tomb Raider (the Survivor Trilogy). And your comments about leveling up XP to defeat the final boss are totally accurate. I also have played all 3 games over and over again trying different levels (easy, medium, hard) or trying different combinations of XP or routes to defeat the baddies.
It occurred to me that maybe if they implemented a challenge level system for TS4 (like play the game on easy, medium, or hard) it might be interesting. What if medium or hard levels of TS4 allowed for more sudden or unique deaths, or more cooking fires, or more craziness like strippers or fights breaking out, it takes longer to level up or to achieve an aspiration, etc. Then you could keep the vanilla game as it is, but players wanting more excitement could just increase the challenge level of the game?

I don't think I would have ever played Sims 4 if I hadn't played Sims, Sims 2 and 3. The game is my favourite game because I know what it can be and it is disappointing that Sims 4 is not what the previous games were. Luckily there is mods and CC that makes the game playable. However, the game shouldn't need CC and mods to be great. Especially when Sims is €1000 game. The game is not only lacking gameplay but it is filled with bugs and clitches. With that price, the game should be flawless. I don't think the game is worth more than €10 to be honest.

I find myself far too often just spending hours in CAS, days even in build mode to make the best house ever with very potent tools, but when it comes to live mode, yeah, i do just spend a few minutes and then quit because i know there's nothing exciting about it. I feel like TS4 has caused damage to my experience with The Sims franchise as a whole. When i go back to older games, after 8 years with TS4, i feel like i can't have as much fun.

In TS2 I've created (well, those sims had such deep personalities that they mostly did everything on their own) stories full of plot twists that made me feel all sort of emotions. And because I got so deep in those stories that I feel like I bonded with those sims (like when you bond with characters in a book you really like) and miss them when they die.
In TS4 I can't do that. Just looking at how sims stay stuck in one place, at how they "sweep" things instead of having precise animations for their actions, at how they continously have "mood swings", at their stupid smiley face while they stand and do nothing (I want them to do significant things on their own, you know?), at how their wishes are all the same, at how everyone likes everyone... God, I can't stand it. It's so BORING!

The main gripe that I have with TS4 is that it is so uninspired. This is NO real lore. TS2 & 3 were basically built on lore, especially 2. Which allowed for all of the fun drama and stories to help develop in the gameplay. Not to mention the sims in those games had so much personality 🥲

You’re exactly right. I remember when I was so excited for The Sims 4, but now I barely touch it unless I have a very specific hyperfixation to push me to play it. By that I mean, if I become so invested with certain fictional characters, I’ll remake them in TS4 and actually have fun with them for a little while, until I get bored of it again, cause it’s the same exact gameplay no matter what, just in a different skin.
The traits do absolutely nothing in making the sims unique from one another, and this was the first sims game I HAD to mod, not just because the CC community knows how to keep this game alive, but I’ve had so many game breaking bugs and “quirks” that have never been addressed by the development team, but modders were able to fix independently, thus, actually making my game playable. No one should NEED mods to make their game work, mods should only be optional to add different enhancements to an already good game.
I’ve been around since Sims 1, and it really pains me to see this game franchise plummet and continue to plummet. I wanted to love this game, but I just can’t. I have a like/hate relationship with TS4.

I understand that people seem to love to cheat in TS4.
I've mostly only ever cheated because I was either new to the game and figuring things out... or because I'm not feeling up to solving the problem because I'll be having a hard time with the game or I'll get lazy.
There are many ways to play this game and partly thanks to simmers and partly thanks to the game itself.
I know that not everyone enjoys everything about this game, but to say that there's nothing to work towards in TS4 is ignoring, forgetting, or possibly not knowing about all the things the game has to offer.
    - Aspirations
    - Creating super sims by completing all the aspirations you can
    - Occult and celebrity skill trees, which can add even more to the previous goal
    - Raising a family
    - Making money in various ways
    - Trying to play without a 9-5 job
    - The Reward Store _itself..._
    - Working around the limitations of the Interior Designer career by entering CAS with your clients and writing down their likes and dislikes since they won't reveal them all to you... lol cheating if the game demotes you for no reason. lol 🤣
Really, I believe that Maxis has succeeded in wanting players of TS4 to make their own stories. The community has made up so many fun ways to play the game and with the tools the developers provided for them. They seemed to want TS4 to be more of a sandbox than a true life simulation with unpredictable situations, and as someone who greatly enjoys sandbox games, I repeatedly come back to TS4 to continue to create, _work on goals_ and try new things.
I've barely played TS1 years ago as a 12 year old give or take in the early 2000s and have never played TS2 nor 3, but I can tell you that what I've seen of TS1 and TS2 are not things I'd feel comfortable with, and TS3 sims freak me out a little too much to really want to play it, but it seems a little more laid back like TS4, albeit with open worlds which make the game feel more alive, but it's too bad that using a lot of packs in that game causes it to drop so many frames. Still, I may eventually get over my fear of most TS3 sims and play it. looool 😂Said the 33 year old man. 🤣😵💀

I played Sims 4 again at the weekend.
Every few months I give the game another chance. Created a new household, let My Sims move into a small house, and bored after an hour at most. There is simply nothing to do. I always follow the same pattern. Choose a career and grind through it. At the same time, build up the necessary skills. Why don't you actually build up your skills while you're working? That's how it actually works, isn't it? That way you spend the time you have outside of work doing busywork...

No. Sims 4 is honestly the worst one in the franchise. If there’s a sims 5 we all want the sims 2&3 revamped. I heard somewhere that EA wasn’t planning on a sims 4, so to me I feel like they’re being lazy with sims 4 cause they weren’t gonna make it to begin with, but since so many people asked for it they rushed it and it didn’t turn out the way we were expecting, as if they were like “ok you got the sims 4 now stop asking”. But that’s just me.

This is gonna be long, but here's my personal experience:
For me I had hoppped in between mostly 3 and 4, I'm currently into 4 but its hanging on the fact that I have 1500 mods to sustain it, and I'm not even a vanity Simmer! I'm deep into the four stories I'm sustaining in my save which has been an experience where I had to use too much of my creativity to make something happen (especially valid negative moments) because some things cannot literally run their course due to myriads of reasons. I can say I am still balls deep into Sims 4 only over the stories and the mods that keep my experiences ok, but I feel like my time is indeed limited. I'm just enjoying my time and the effort I'm exerting to keep things at bay in my game before the cracks of the game all give out on me.
3 is still my baby anyway and I'll hop right back into it when that dire moment eventually comes thooo

I honestly think I'm gonna be qutting Sims 4 soon, it's just _wayyy_ too boring now.
About 3 years ago when I first got Sims was the most exciting time ever, I immediately started making Sims and playing around with them and for some odd reason I stopped playing because I accidentally forgot about it and I was too lazy to log into Origin all over again and my computer was getting old and laggy. About a half a year later I got a new laptop that was MUCH better than my computer, then I remembered Sims 4. I transferred my Sims 4 data with a little usb and started playing. I made a new world since I thought of a story idea to do! After about a month, I gradually started getting more and more bored of it. When I was going to return to Sims 4, I was expecting drama, enemies, fun and engaging scenes, intense family dynamics, good love stories, but all I got was just smiles and rainbows. There are a lot of things I want in the Sims 4 that I think would make it more interesting:
-MURDERS!!! It'd be really cool and interesting if there were murderers and the detective job can be used excitedly. You can solve murderers and learn to catch other criminals.
-NEW SCENARIOS!!! A lot of the scenarios that Sims 4 gives us seems pretty boring and already something someone can do without even turning on the scenario thing. What if we have Alien invasions or zombie apocalypses? Loss, character growth, bravery, sacrifices, romance, tragedy, fighting scenes, and intense training would be SOO interesting and engaging to watch play out.
I'll add more in the future but I needa rush to cya y'all!

  • @cassi94

The sims 4 is the biggest waste of time now. I can’t imagine playing it for more than an hour at this point. Half of your saved gallery items just don’t load, vendors and festivals disappear and float in the sky with no fix, you have to try to command 3-4 times before the sims actually does it without automatically doing their own thing, half the time when you do a command- the sim walks off the lot before it starts the action. The game is unplayable. You have to hit the Debug cheat every 5 minutes on your sims, or objects in order for them to function. If you do any group hangout with a conversation, it overwhelms the game and they bug out and do the T pose. I’m so over this game and even more over EA. I hope they are sued or lose money somehow in a big way because they are truly cutting corners and pocketing extra money, the evidence is in the quality of game play. How is it a game made in the early 2000s ran smoother than a game still being updated in 2022?
