after 6 years of being an ARMY an a kpop stan in general because a really like it, BoyNextDoor made me a proper member of another fandom. 46 yo and soooo proud of being a Onedoor. It is a witty and super talent group with very stable live vocals.

Young Posse has quickly became one of my favourite groups, I love each one of their 9 songs. Also the medley cover they released is goated as well.
Young Posse will definitely blow up I'm telling you. I'm so glad DSP is sticking with their sound and by the looks of their track record I don't see them dropping it at all

I grew up listening to Hip Hop and to this day it remains my top genre, so catching all the references Young Posse made in the song was very fun. I also loved that they paid homage to XXL mag. Honestly never seen any other group execute the "hip hop concept" as good as Young Posse. Maybe it's because I've grown fond of them or because there's a quirky element to their videos, but it just doesn't feel as forced compared to other groups.

The Illit and NewJeans conversation is very interesting because I feel as though it’s very nuance(?) and complicated.
I agree, I don’t think concepts can be owned by any group and that trends are naturally followed. I do think that concepts can be an identifier of a group as you said! That’s something I haven’t come across yet out of the entire fiasco.
It doesn’t take much brain power to identify that both groups have different ideas/concepts that are more of less separated from each other. I think it’s too early in both groups careers to really “claim” that they have the similar sounds in terms of discography. I will say that Magnetic’s instrumental reminds me of ASAP and Hurt, but again, that’s just me.
I do think a part of this issue revolves around the dissolution in brand identity. Again, I don’t think it takes much brainpower to realize that they are distinctive groups, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the possibility for Illit and NewJeans to be confused as each other is at a zero. It even happened pre-debut, when CULTED posted a now deleted TikTok of Illit at Paris Fashion Week with the caption “NewJeans at ACNE FW24”. I’d like to think the percentage is very low, but not a zero. This probably might be an issue with the more casual audience than someone more seasoned in kpop.
Additionally, you could also take into consideration what audience Illit was targeting. In addition to their established fan base with R U Next, it seems pretty evident that they intended to bring in the audience who enjoyed the more “easy-to-listen” to kpop songs. And I think that concept/sentiment was brought back with the debut of NewJeans. So I feel like they were trying to target listeners of that caliber. I definitely was one of them!
Personally, NewJeans was what fully immersed me into K-pop and once I saw the teasers for Magnetic, I was excited. I thought, “Awesome! This reminds me of NewJeans, I will be tuning in”. So it’s really unfortunate to witness this drama unfold. I feel bad for the girls in both groups, none of them deserve the negativity.
Do I think plagiarism was involved? Not really, but it’s definitely hard to answer. I do think that Illit would benefit from having a more concrete identity that would prevent them from being confused as NewJeans, though unfortunately I don’t think comparisons will end. Even with their debut, I feel like their identity is almost there. With Magnetic, I kind of get coquette vibes! I also know they have some lore, but I have surface level knowledge.
In terms of NewJeans, people say their most identifying concept is Y2K. While I definitely agree, I feel like they’re more leaning towards the overall concept of time and nostalgia. Even with their upcoming double-single How Sweet. The album covers for that are very reminiscent of 80s pop figures.
But those are my thoughts!
i think the main problem is that people will watch the Magnetic MV and scream "it's nothing like NewJeans, Min Heejin is crazy and delusional" etc, when in fact a lot of knetz were mistaking Illit for NJ since their teasers started coming out. to make things worse, the song could very well be a NJ song, the group has 5 members, their creative director made the conscious choice of debuting them all will long black hair (even though they needed hair extensions for that, which is suspicious)
I really like AMPERS&ONE, "broken heart" is so catchy, and the boys are all so cute. I shouldn't be surprised at how good they are, since FNC know how to found talent, their issue is properly promoting them
I really REALLY recommend you to listen to the whole XXL album from Young Posse! There are more hip hop styled song you might like!

I don’t know if some people feel the same way but for me boynextdoor makes me feel the same way I felt for bts. More in the sense of how they approach their music, they are not only good performers but they also write and compose their own songs with a little bit of help from Zico and others. They seem to have a lot creative freedom and feel very authentic and I think that’s what really reminds me of bts: Their authenticity
They create music that truly represents them and are not really trying to follow trends or what is more popular for the general public. They are just creating their own music. Also they have insane group chemistry and are fun to watch ❤

Illit concept is newjeans original concept. Remember the soumu/bighit audition with magical girl aesthetic? Minheejin left the project to start her agency, so the group went on a different concept route. I'm happy that they used the concept for a new group, and it fits them so much. It's so cute and magical at the same time.
Also i would recommend “Locked On” by the girl group “VVUP”

YP reminds me of some of the rap groups I grew up with in the 90's. I hope they keep that old school wacky vibe because I works really well for them. On the Illit thing: I felt they had a similar vibe to New Jeans. I'm not saying they sound the same; I'm saying they induced the same kind of feelings when I heard it. That catchy, casual, easy to listen to vibe. It sounds really good, but the music and vocals don't really do anything too high or low, it's just kinda chill the whole way through. It's like the ups and downs in a song have had the peaks chopped down so the whole song flows more in the middle. Hard to explain I guess.
The intro on VCHA sounds like Viva La Vida by coldplay... That's probably why it's familiar
