Very good analysis about Trump swing analysis. One thing I noticed in the video with Dechambeau is that he tends to hit fairly straight with his woods and irons. I heard before that his short game might be a bit of an issue. But overall, I wish that at 78, I can maintain my swing like he does.
Trump got tired at the end. But he played the first 8-10 holes pretty solid. For 78 yrs old, he did good! How many of us will be playing golf, much less be alive at that age! MAGA 🇺🇸

I play with many over 70s and over 80s golfers who can compete well in amateur events. They can putt, chip, drive accurately. Trump shot a 92 in. LIV amateur event last year. He’s pretty average for a private club, 78 year old frequent golfer.
I know everyone will analyse. Critique . Make assumptions. But at the end of the day, anyone who is pushing 80 , will not play like this. He's worked out his technique, and works around it. Looks bad, but makes it work. Really well. Really impressed

Everybody has their own technique and some of the best in many different sports, had their own style. Ricky Carmichael, the best motocross racer in history, was known for his own unique style that's some didn't particularly like. But he got it done and set all kinds of records.
Just came across your channel. Great content. I'm a Trump supporter but I honestly went into this thinking Bryson would carry the video. I was shocked. Trump's mechanics aren't pretty and it works for him. Scotty Scheffler doesn't have a perfect setup and it works for him so to each their own. I will say I'm 46 and have no doubt Trump would kick my butt on the course. Trump played great considering he's 78. He was very engaging with Bryson and asking lots of questions. No politics. Just 2 guys enjoying a round of golf for a good cause.
I am 74 years old have played golf since 10 years old,it took me 12 years to get to single handicap(8) stayed in that area for 30 years,then started on down hill,now hold 12 at 74 but I hit 50 balls every day on my own practice range,plus putt for about 15 minutes,if do not keep up practice your game go out back door. You loose distance with age but need have top short game to play to handicap.

He's all hands in the putting, basically opposite of Bryson's textbook approach. It's all feel, he's "slapping" the ball. Trump said in one video I saw that he rejects any advice on putting, now it makes sense. As for his swing, he's incredibly consistent, which is the foundation for any competent golfer. I think it's a great demonstration for any aspiring amateur; own your technique and enjoy the game.

I watched the entire round and other than a couple of bad slices, Trump was striking the ball very solidly. His putting was also very good despite looking quite odd. Is he a scratch golfer at 78 years old? Maybe not quite, but there is no doubt that his handicap is low to mid single digits. If I project backwards in time to being a younger man, he was probably close to be scratch.
@@liongolfacademy Handicaps tend to be a little off once one gets beyond 60 or so. I'm near 60 and have lost so much distance that I have no chance of shooting my handicap from yardages beyond about 6800 yards. So at 78, I'm not sure how meaningful a handicap is if not playing the forward tees. BTW, Bryson was a beast off the tee. I was amazed how close to his intended line he could hit a 3wd or driver. And what a putter too. Frankly that was an impressive best ball the two men played. A little unlucky not to reach 49.... I've played a best ball with a scratch golfer and have never done better than about -10. So -22 blew me away. Then again, I've never played a best ball with a high level pro either!
Who you kidding? The putting stroke alone is not indicative of a single digit handicapper. His ball striking is solid for his age. But didn't see any short game shots I.e. chip shots but if his chipping is like his putting stroke, then he is no single digit handicapper.
@@robertstanford1778 His putting stroke looks terrible, but the results weren't all that bad. I've been a single handicapper or decades, so I know what sort of results one typically has. His short irons looked pretty good - again the result, not the swing.
Somewhat familiar w/his game. He played to a legit 2.8 hc up to 2022. Not sure what it is now. Has had that swing forever and is a really good ball striker. He clears his hips super fast which allows him to make the contact he does w/ the inside path. He doesn’t have the yips, what you see is his stroke and his putting is really good, always has been. You’re correct about hitting on the heel. This happens when his hips don’t clear. You can look at all the tape you want, but at the end of the day, he’s a wonderful amateur player, especially at his age.
Legit 2.8 two years ago? Nicklaus has carried twice that handicap in most of his senior years. In this video, trump shows he can’t putt, used an 8 or 9 iron for a 103 yard par 3, hit a short iron left into a bunker when the flag and most of the green was way right. He’d be lucky to be a 12.8.
Agreed - they showed every swing and there was only a couple of push slices that were not great. The only thing is that we didn't see him hit anything but driver and short irons, so am not sure how good his mid irons or hybrids and fairway woods are... If playing from the Seniors tees, I imagine Trump consistently shoots in the low to mid 70s. From the whites probably mid 70s and from the blues he's probably shooting about 80ish.

If you take a look at the course they played on it was absolutely short in comparison to even many muni courses. 299 yd par 4s and 400 yd par 5s are not very common outside of a 9 hole course. So with this being said, I think at some time in the past he could have been near a scratch golfer... ON this course. In fact it reminds me of a bowler I played with in a league who had a 254 average at his home alley, but was a 180 avg. everywhere else. Either way, his swing reminds me of Arnold Palmer... his takeoff was a little unorthodox, but his ability to get back in line at impact made up for it.

But yes, the COURSE itself is very nice. The distances which they played... not outstanding. HOWEVER I am not diminishing their efforts despite the shorter distances.
I am a physician, and your lines do not line up with anatomy. One line was put in the right shoulder pretty close to the AC joint and the left side of the line was in the middle of his shoulder blade. The only way to do this with any accuracy is when the person is wearing a tight biker shorts and no shirt or tight sleeveless top. And you place markers on the anatomical areas on the persons body.
Thanks for the comment! Although the lines are named after the certain area it is almost impossible to place it exactly. Example is the spine, how could you possibly draw a spine line that looks like the spine when the spine is s shaped. It’s just a way to explain angle retention in the golf swing and identifying it to a familiar area in the body. You would not call the line that creates the angle between your shoulders the knee line.
Guys let's not forget that Trump was playing with one of the world's best and on camera. That's a lot of added pressure and he still played solidly. I have no doubt that Trump can regularly break 80 from the Whites or Senior's tees, and he probably can shoot his age regularly. That is impressive.

@@liongolfacademy I just played Royal St Georges, Muirfield and Turnberry Ailsa. I've actually played many of the world's great courses and there is no doubt that Ailsa is the world's greatest links course and one of the world's greatest golf courses. I've also played Trump's Dunbeg in Ireland and his Aberdeen course, and they are both spectacular. So although Trump does like to exaggerate a lot, he does curate amazing golf courses... Just at Turnberry with a few groups and starter watching me, I duck-hooked my first tee shot. Golf under pressure is tough and I have to believe this video put Trump's game under some pressure and yet he played very well.
@@djknox2 I haven’t been over the pond in some time, I’ve been 5 times and played a lot of golf there, I will say that Ireland has the best course in my opinion l. The links up there seems to be hit harder from the article circle weather over time causing more undulation. Need to get back there!
That age adjustment swing works for him. His putting stroke is the ugliest I’ve ever seen, but that also somehow works because his putting was pretty good too.

Thanks so much! I try to show my support to this who take the time to offer their opinions and even if we don’t agree, I think it’s still important. I would say his handicap now may be a 10-12 region strictly because of distance off the tee. I personally don’t see Mr. Trump playing the real sets of tees he needs as just like many of us, we won’t let our ego do it. If he does indeed play the correct tees, the I could see him being high singles (8-9).

@volkhergoetz in golf we have sets of tees you can decide to go from. Many of us play the wrong set of tees due to ego. This can also dramatically affect your ability to score correctly due to the course designer minimum carry to reach certain targets.
If you look at GHIN, Trump was a 2.5 handicap around 2013. Not many scores posted, but a low score of 70. His granddaughter Kai is a 0.3 hc. As far as his putting stroke, it is weird, but it is effective. I have a friend that has a very similar putting stroke and puts lights out. He is a single digit handicap. The main thing in golf is that you have to be consistent. As long as you hit it the same way everytime , you can adjust and play very well. I once played with a guy that had one of the worse slices you'd ever seen, but he was consistent in the middle of the fairway because he compensated and aimed way left. If I had to guess, Trump is probably a 12-15 dc these days. He hit some incredible shots during the game and had a birdie and an eagle on his own ball (all his shots were selected). I can't see Biden breaking 120 these days. Ghin shows him being mid single digits many years ago.
He just might have fudged a bit when he turned in those scores. Wouldn't be the first time he wasn't completely honest. Just saying he's got a record of bending the truth. No wait, I meant outright lying.
The thing you missed was lack of tension in his swing .Even when he made his eagle he just strolled of the green .A swing of confidence unlike the putting stroke which is laboured . Saying that he got it to and sometimes into the hole .Re driving he says he keeps it straight and hits it enough , quite a combination .👍

Thank you for this. I used to use V1 software, and its nice to see a break down like this. I think trump has a pretty decent swing for almost 80. His putting mechanics are terrible, but somehow he makes it work. He could've been low single digit which people would call "scratch" 10 years ago.
He could have been but he probably wasn’t. In 2004,2005 and 2006 he played in the Tahoe celebrity tournament. They have rules officials with the groups, so cheating isn’t an option. Here are his results. 2006 62 of 80 2005 42 of 81 2004 56 of 79 Fine for a man his age. But not the championship golfer he claimed to be.
At 78, Trump is very good...his total game is good, but he needs to go to the claw with his putting. His swing mechanics just work and many of his shots are dead straight...or a small fade.
I could show you a heap of guys who are single digit handicaps that would never pass all these lines you show.. peopke with style, form and technique you would never call text book yet still are single digit handicap players.

If you watch the whole hour video, you get to see how many good shots he had and really I can’t think of any bad ones. This is a real course, not some neighborhood course so I have no problem believing that he could still golf in the high 70s or low 80s on his own. If at 78 he can play that low then chances are when he was in his 40s and 50s he probably was shooting pretty close to par.

Looks like that 'in and over' move you'd see with Stadler, Lietzsche, and even Snead. Daly, too, and they play tons of golf together. I've played with a ton of single digits who all had worse swings. Putting looks like recent yips and maybe aging eyesight?🤷🏻
Is he currently a single digit, low single, now? Probably not....As noted, to be that low you've got to hit a ton of balls: daily, weekly etc. Being President and then harrassed for 4 years whilst campaigning for the next 3½ years, I'd say that in the past, he was probably scratch. I had an uncle, built about the same, and at the same age, came close to shooting his age on my home course....A Nationwide tour stop.
Thanks for the comment! To be scratch you need to be able to hit it 250 with your driver as that is what the average scratch golfer hits his/her driver. Currently he cannot do this, so this severely hinders his ability to shoot scratch. Even though handicap is based on your top 2.5 scores out of 10, it is still a hard thing to do.

I don't understand all the awe over trumps game. I often play with a guy in his 80s. He walks 18 holes and can beat his age once in 5 games.Trump can't even walk a course.
Far too much bend in his thoracic spine. This exacerbates his tendency to take the club too far back at first parallel . At impact he does a decent job of rotating his torso .
Those that have an increased spine angle at address typically have a higher takeaway as the shoulder work to stay perpendicular of that angle, it just so happens that he stands up as a result of not being able to maintain his posture, lowering his shoulder tilt, which lowers his hands. It works because of the compensations he makes from address. Thanks for the comment!
True, it is rather an odd putting stroke. I’m not going to say it’s not possible to be a single digit with that putting stroke, so long as it is repetitive it could work, but to me it looks like consistency could be an issue specifically with distance control which is 90% of putting

He came from that generation before me that didn’t know what incorrect club fitting can create in swings. It’s quite possible this was a major catalyst in his swing development.

i've seen some videos of jfk and he had a decent looking swing and bobby too. i always heard dan quayle was a very good golfer also. i went with a bunch of guys years ago to poland springs golf club in maine and it's an old place and old fashioned and some of us stayed in the dan quayle room at the hotel. we played golf and late night poker.

I kayak in the Potomac river in the Washington DC area. Every time I finish paddling, on my return downstream, I pull out golf balls that I can reach in shallow water. It doesn’t matter if the golf swing or putting stroke is text book. All that matters is getting the ball in the hole with the least amount of strokes.

He's all hands in the putting, basically opposite of Bryson's textbook approach. It's all feel, he's "slapping" the ball. Trump said in one video I saw that he rejects any advice on putting, now it makes sense. As for his swing, he's incredibly consistent, which is the foundation for any competent golfer. I think it's a great demonstration for any aspiring amateur; own your technique and enjoy the game.

I watched the entire round and other than a couple of bad slices, Trump was striking the ball very solidly. His putting was also very good despite looking quite odd. Is he a scratch golfer at 78 years old? Maybe not quite, but there is no doubt that his handicap is low to mid single digits. If I project backwards in time to being a younger man, he was probably close to be scratch.

@@liongolfacademy Handicaps tend to be a little off once one gets beyond 60 or so. I'm near 60 and have lost so much distance that I have no chance of shooting my handicap from yardages beyond about 6800 yards. So at 78, I'm not sure how meaningful a handicap is if not playing the forward tees. BTW, Bryson was a beast off the tee. I was amazed how close to his intended line he could hit a 3wd or driver. And what a putter too. Frankly that was an impressive best ball the two men played. A little unlucky not to reach 49.... I've played a best ball with a scratch golfer and have never done better than about -10. So -22 blew me away. Then again, I've never played a best ball with a high level pro either!
Also note that Trump made an Eagle on his own ball. At age 78, that's impressive.
Who you kidding? The putting stroke alone is not indicative of a single digit handicapper. His ball striking is solid for his age. But didn't see any short game shots I.e. chip shots but if his chipping is like his putting stroke, then he is no single digit handicapper.

Somewhat familiar w/his game. He played to a legit 2.8 hc up to 2022. Not sure what it is now. Has had that swing forever and is a really good ball striker. He clears his hips super fast which allows him to make the contact he does w/ the inside path. He doesn’t have the yips, what you see is his stroke and his putting is really good, always has been. You’re correct about hitting on the heel. This happens when his hips don’t clear. You can look at all the tape you want, but at the end of the day, he’s a wonderful amateur player, especially at his age.

Legit 2.8 two years ago? Nicklaus has carried twice that handicap in most of his senior years. In this video, trump shows he can’t putt, used an 8 or 9 iron for a 103 yard par 3, hit a short iron left into a bunker when the flag and most of the green was way right. He’d be lucky to be a 12.8.
You can look at that putting stroke and find something to admire? It's one of the worst I've ever seen.

Agreed - they showed every swing and there was only a couple of push slices that were not great. The only thing is that we didn't see him hit anything but driver and short irons, so am not sure how good his mid irons or hybrids and fairway woods are... If playing from the Seniors tees, I imagine Trump consistently shoots in the low to mid 70s. From the whites probably mid 70s and from the blues he's probably shooting about 80ish.

I am a single digit handicapper and have an ugly swing but we can male it work. President Trump is a good golfer and to compare him to Biden is a joke!
Most handicap comes down to 76 yards and in.

If you take a look at the course they played on it was absolutely short in comparison to even many muni courses. 299 yd par 4s and 400 yd par 5s are not very common outside of a 9 hole course.
So with this being said, I think at some time in the past he could have been near a scratch golfer... ON this course. In fact it reminds me of a bowler I played with in a league who had a 254 average at his home alley, but was a 180 avg. everywhere else.
Either way, his swing reminds me of Arnold Palmer... his takeoff was a little unorthodox, but his ability to get back in line at impact made up for it.

I am a physician, and your lines do not line up with anatomy. One line was put in the right shoulder pretty close to the AC joint and the left side of the line was in the middle of his shoulder blade. The only way to do this with any accuracy is when the person is wearing a tight biker shorts and no shirt or tight sleeveless top. And you place markers on the anatomical areas on the persons body.

Example is the spine, how could you possibly draw a spine line that looks like the spine when the spine is s shaped. It’s just a way to explain angle retention in the golf swing and identifying it to a familiar area in the body. You would not call the line that creates the angle between your shoulders the knee line.
Guys let's not forget that Trump was playing with one of the world's best and on camera. That's a lot of added pressure and he still played solidly. I have no doubt that Trump can regularly break 80 from the Whites or Senior's tees, and he probably can shoot his age regularly. That is impressive.

@@liongolfacademy I just played Royal St Georges, Muirfield and Turnberry Ailsa. I've actually played many of the world's great courses and there is no doubt that Ailsa is the world's greatest links course and one of the world's greatest golf courses. I've also played Trump's Dunbeg in Ireland and his Aberdeen course, and they are both spectacular. So although Trump does like to exaggerate a lot, he does curate amazing golf courses... Just at Turnberry with a few groups and starter watching me, I duck-hooked my first tee shot. Golf under pressure is tough and I have to believe this video put Trump's game under some pressure and yet he played very well.

Thanks so much! I try to show my support to this who take the time to offer their opinions and even if we don’t agree, I think it’s still important. I would say his handicap now may be a 10-12 region strictly because of distance off the tee. I personally don’t see Mr. Trump playing the real sets of tees he needs as just like many of us, we won’t let our ego do it. If he does indeed play the correct tees, the I could see him being high singles (8-9).

@volkhergoetz in golf we have sets of tees you can decide to go from. Many of us play the wrong set of tees due to ego. This can also dramatically affect your ability to score correctly due to the course designer minimum carry to reach certain targets.

I'd actually pay money to see Biden play Trump. There's no way Biden gets within 20 strokes of Trump.
If you look at GHIN, Trump was a 2.5 handicap around 2013. Not many scores posted, but a low score of 70. His granddaughter Kai is a 0.3 hc. As far as his putting stroke, it is weird, but it is effective. I have a friend that has a very similar putting stroke and puts lights out. He is a single digit handicap. The main thing in golf is that you have to be consistent. As long as you hit it the same way everytime , you can adjust and play very well. I once played with a guy that had one of the worse slices you'd ever seen, but he was consistent in the middle of the fairway because he compensated and aimed way left. If I had to guess, Trump is probably a 12-15 dc these days. He hit some incredible shots during the game and had a birdie and an eagle on his own ball (all his shots were selected). I can't see Biden breaking 120 these days. Ghin shows him being mid single digits many years ago.

All of our scores sadly go up with age. If he played off 2.5 11 years ago I would guess around 9 now he’s pushing 80 years old. Still impressive.
He just might have fudged a bit when he turned in those scores. Wouldn't be the first time he wasn't completely honest. Just saying he's got a record of bending the truth. No wait, I meant outright lying.

The thing you missed was lack of tension in his swing .Even when he made his eagle he just strolled of the green .A swing of confidence unlike the putting stroke which is laboured . Saying that he got it to and sometimes into the hole .Re driving he says he keeps it straight and hits it enough , quite a combination .👍

Thank you for this. I used to use V1 software, and its nice to see a break down like this. I think trump has a pretty decent swing for almost 80. His putting mechanics are terrible, but somehow he makes it work. He could've been low single digit which people would call "scratch" 10 years ago.

He could have been but he probably wasn’t. In 2004,2005 and 2006 he played in the Tahoe celebrity tournament. They have rules officials with the groups, so cheating isn’t an option. Here are his results.

At 78, Trump is very good...his total game is good, but he needs to go to the claw with his putting. His swing mechanics just work and many of his shots are dead straight...or a small fade.

If you watch the whole hour video, you get to see how many good shots he had and really I can’t think of any bad ones. This is a real course, not some neighborhood course so I have no problem believing that he could still golf in the high 70s or low 80s on his own. If at 78 he can play that low then chances are when he was in his 40s and 50s he probably was shooting pretty close to par.

Looks like that 'in and over' move you'd see with Stadler, Lietzsche, and even Snead. Daly, too, and they play tons of golf together. I've played with a ton of single digits who all had worse swings.

Is he currently a single digit, low single, now? Probably not....As noted, to be that low you've got to hit a ton of balls: daily, weekly etc. Being President and then harrassed for 4 years whilst campaigning for the next 3½ years, I'd say that in the past, he was probably scratch. I had an uncle, built about the same, and at the same age, came close to shooting his age on my home course....A Nationwide tour stop.
Thanks for the comment! To be scratch you need to be able to hit it 250 with your driver as that is what the average scratch golfer hits his/her driver. Currently he cannot do this, so this severely hinders his ability to shoot scratch. Even though handicap is based on your top 2.5 scores out of 10, it is still a hard thing to do.

I don't understand all the awe over trumps game. I often play with a guy in his 80s. He walks 18 holes and can beat his age once in 5 games.Trump can't even walk a course.
Far too much bend in his thoracic spine. This exacerbates his tendency to take the club too far back at first parallel .
At impact he does a decent job of rotating his torso .
Those that have an increased spine angle at address typically have a higher takeaway as the shoulder work to stay perpendicular of that angle, it just so happens that he stands up as a result of not being able to maintain his posture, lowering his shoulder tilt, which lowers his hands. It works because of the compensations he makes from address. Thanks for the comment!

True, it is rather an odd putting stroke. I’m not going to say it’s not possible to be a single digit with that putting stroke, so long as it is repetitive it could work, but to me it looks like consistency could be an issue specifically with distance control which is 90% of putting

He can lob pretty well, but we never got to see some bunker shots or chips. Maybe his approach isn´t that good but his short game holds up. He still puts like the 70's, it was all about the wrist and a quick snap.

Thanks for the comment Steve. Your observation on his clubs seems to make sense as he does hunch over the golf ball, which could be the reason why he needs to lose shoulder tilt and reroute. He came from that generation before me that didn’t know what incorrect club fitting can create in swings. It’s quite possible this was a major catalyst in his swing development.

i've seen some videos of jfk and he had a decent looking swing and bobby too. i always heard dan quayle was a very good golfer also. i went with a bunch of guys years ago to poland springs golf club in maine and it's an old place and old fashioned and some of us stayed in the dan quayle room at the hotel. we played golf and late night poker.

Every time I finish paddling, on my return downstream, I pull out golf balls that I can reach in shallow water.
I easily fish out 30 golf balls every time.
