      We do when it's safe, but many bike lanes are poorly designed and downright dangerous. My local town has them, but they are very narrow and smack in the "door zone." Riding in them is guaranteed to get you seriously injured. The problem is that once they pass their driver's test, they never look at the laws again. They don't know and don't care.

    If you want to prevent motorist from accessing the bike lane use security blocks that will make it harder for motorist to get pass but also do what New York did and raise the curb making it hard for motorist to access the sidewalk. Not using road markers install concrete barriers that seperats Traffic to cyclist.. The Goal is to make it harder for motorist to access.

      Yeah, if pedestrians are going to block and walk in the bike lane then it’s fair game to ride on the sidewalks when it’s downright dangerous to take the road. @@linedrive3546 *insurance* Not required because a bicycle poses very little risk to other people and their property.
      *excise tax* People who cycle pay at least as much for the roads as anyone driving since roads are founded through taxes such as income tax. They might end up paying more than drivers though since bicyclists only use a small part of the road infrastructure compared to drivers. Also, cars do a lot of damage to the environment and the road structure than a tiny little bicycle.
      *license plate* I will quote an article here that explains it very well why that would be unrealistic:
      *Bikes should be registered with a tag, and cyclists should take a road test!*
      Response: Cyclists already get ticketed regularly-and it’s barely worth traffic cops’ time.
      The Lowdown: The mandatory bike-registration thing goes partly back to the “Cyclists don’t pay taxes!” argument; we already pay taxes.
      There’s another rationale: catching scofflaw cyclists. But no license plate appropriately sized for bikes is going to be useful for law enforcement, since the letters are illegible from more than a few feet away-and you can imagine how much money would need to go toward (and be condemned by drivers for) creating and maintaining size-appropriate ID chip technology. Cyclists get ticketed regularly and, considering how much risk bikes pose to the population relative to cars, cyclists don’t have to pay as much for comparable traffic infractions; police make more money ticketing cars.
      As for the road test, let’s first answer this question: Since children down to toddlers ride bikes on public streets, what age would you like to start the test at?

    • @linedrive3546
      @linedrive3546 Рік тому +1

      @@k-rj740 children and toddlers are smarter than most bike riders so, we can start the same time as licensing at 16. Then, you pay all the same taxes and fees drivers do AND THEN AND ONLY THEN WILL YOU'LL BE RESPECTED ON THE ROAD!! You pay less fees and expect more road. I've had bikers slam into my car and getting them to pay for the damage was nearly impossible and it

      Pedestrians walk and stand on the bike lanes illegally, and if you see bikes on the sidewalks then it’s a clear sign the roads aren’t safe. A cyclists’s life is more important than a bylaw. Car drivers are far worse with abiding by rules, and the big thing is that when cars don’t abide by road rules it endangers everyone on the road, when bikes do it they’re only endangering themselves and maybe pedestrians, but the pedestrian is unlikely to be seriously hurt or killed. Also way to stereotype cyclists, because most of us follow the law and you should be pro-bike lane because it helps everyone and it also prevents bikes from having to stop for stoplights and stop signs.

      Actually you are correct, but the problem is cars don't pay enough taxes for the amount of damage they cause to city's finances, car driving is so expensive that each driver gets around $50k+ each year in subsidies. Cities bleed money for every mile driven while they gain money for every mile riden or walked.
      I wish it was the case, where susbsidies didn't exist and drivers were forced to pay all the costs assocsiated with driving, for ex gas tax that hasn't been increased since 1990's, a tax for how many people cars kill and injure, those people are dead, no longer contributing to the economy. Tax for pollution and sedentiry lifestyle that cars promote as it effects people's health, resulting in costing society even more money. No more free parking anywhere, parking should cost the same as renting a small room in the area. Cars cause traffic, a congestion fee for all the services that get blocked sitting in traffic. If all these costs and many more were introduced, your statement would actually be correct. As it stands, it's only correct on the surface.
