    The printing has definitely provoked a lot of discussion! I think you're right - colour art, printed in B&W. Btw - never even knew that Warrior existed before the main one we all know and love. Thanks for that.

    The return of The Savage Sword of Conan is great but my copy was pretty dark and I had a hard time trying to see the details. The story of Solomon Kane had a better tone of black and white. I hope Titan fix this for future issues.

      I agree. I also think that expectations were so high because of the great job they're doing on the comic, that this 'failed experiment' seems like such a disappointment? But I'm still on board, apart from this one 'issue' its still a fantastic read!

      @@geekyolhog I've posted it on threads a few places. I still have the dark printing but the image if Bellit that's dark, well, mine is just lines. All that atmosphere is lost.

      @@DCPatrol yeah, I saw that! Makes my copy look positively perfect!! 🙄 I think there's a story behind this. And only the guys at Titan can tell us. The good thing is though, we're all agreeing its a great read!

    Your criticisms are valid & I agree. Great price point for the value & my LCS was completely sold out of all Conan. Even his old issues were cleaned out.
    It feels like we’re entering a new golden era for Conan, anyone else feel like wise?

      Indeed! And a massive chunk of the old Marvel Conan stuff (comic and mag) stills stands up very well today.
      Titan have got it so right with Conan (except this one print thing) I'm really enjoying.

      That's a very good point, actually. Hadn't considered that option! I suppose we can now only wait and see how they handle issue 2!

    My thoughts, quickly: A Joe Jusko cover? Top notch. Introduction by Roy Thomas/Nemedian Chronicles? That's a must to celebrate 50 years after the first issue. The storywriting? Amazing.
    The unidentified artwork (pinups sort of like the original), mostly from other Titan comics comics done in B&W. De La Torre pinup, the map was by Francesca Baerald for one of the variant covers of the first Titan Conan the Barbarian comic, done in colour. Which ties in to the problem. It looks like the main story was done in colour originally and then converted (possibly for a later reprint release), thus washing out a bit, coupled with the fact it is also digital art and feels slightly like copy/paste. You hit the nail on the head missing the dark line art and contrast. My copies seem overly dark making it worse.
    The woman with the skull is reminiscent of the Weird Tales magazine Brundage covers, depicting the women of that era in pulp. I also winced a bit when you rolled your SSOC #1 cover.
    The Solomon Kane story was fantastic.
    The book also doesn't quite FEEL like a Savage Sword in my hands, physically, for some reason. Maybe it's the binding or newsprint chosen, hard to say but something was missing there. However, in spite of the gripes, I'm pleased with it.

    • @geekyolhog
      @geekyolhog  10 місяців тому

      Apologies for the wincing lol and yes, woman with the skull does have a pulpy feel to it. I think the difference to the 'feel' of it may just be the old ones are square bound and new one stapled through the middle?

    I actually didn't like the art or story of Conan. The grey scale was terribly dark but the art itself whilst looking great in some places had a cut n paste feel about it. As for the story, i felt after already having mistrust, Conan would not have fallen for the trap plus I've never seen Conan having to be saved 4 times in one story by his love interest. It should almost have been called "The Savage War Machines of Ineah". It is my 1st disappointment I've had with Titans Conan. The rest of the comic was fantastic. If there is no improvement with issue 2 i may drop Savage even though Solomon Kane was exactly what i had been expecting.

    • @geekyolhog
      @geekyolhog  10 місяців тому

      Must admit, I'm with you as far as issue two - no improvement and I'll just stick with the comic that has been consistently good.

      @@snakeoilkassett9198 I would certainly like them to sort out the printing issues and carry on beyond six issues as long as they keep up the quality of stories and art that they've done with the comic.
