  • The Benelli 502C arrives at a time when a new LAMS approved affordable cruiser is much needed in the market. Powered by the proven Benelli 500cc parallel twin engine that drives the popular Leoncino and the TRK models, the 502C (meaning 500, 2-cylinder, Cruiser) has its own purpose built trellis frame, smaller diameter forks and brake rotors, a low seat height, dual throttle-bodies and an upgraded ignition system compared the its platform siblings. It also has undeniably cool Italian styling and after spending a day on the bike, we reckon it goes as good as it looks. Here is our Benelli 502C video review...

I put a deposit down on a Benelli 502c yesterday. I can't wait to pick it up! I took it for a test ride after admiring it from afar, and after that ride I was convinced. Such a good ride.

This is the size and style of bike I'm looking fot, as my next purchase. It seems to have all the right elements i need for riding in the UK. We have too many speed restrictions, now, too have a more powerful and very fast bike. Idle for me, after 46 years of riding, speed I've done, cruising is my bag now. Great review by the way. Nice to see the old country again, used to live in Australia back in late 70s and early 80s. 5*****

Great review - worthy of many more views and likes....passing my test in next few weeks and this bike has turned my head from the Enfield 650GT as another potential option....will have to try both...btw, what is that in the water in the final drone shot?! A ray? A dolphin? I miss Oz!

Thanks! Try both for sure... Very different bikes, not much in it performance wise (I own a 650 Interceptor). The RE handles a lot better of course, with more ground clearance and so forth.

I took one out for a test ride a wee while back, and am dead set on getting one. Couldn't justify doing it until I sold my old Regal Raptor, but that just happened so now I'm on the hunt! Gorgeous bike with some serious punch for a 500 cc. Took it around a U-turn and was amazed at the acceleration it showed, was at 60 before I had time to blink!
Oh and for clarification I live in China and believe me, here a 500 cc is the top of what you want unless you have death wish. Larger bikes than that are mostly ridden by local nouveau riche from one teahouse to the next just to show of that they can afford a Harley.

    • @BikeReviewcomau

Hi Moen ... same here .I live in China .Been riding my cobra 321r for about a year now. It's a nice little bike . But I have been thinking of upgrading now. I've been torned between the vulcan S or Benelli 502c. Vulcan is a little more expensive though.
Engine wise how reliable do you think this benelli is ?

    • @urglefloggahthethird1202
      @urglefloggahthethird1202 2 роки тому

@@souravrahman2654 Hiya. So far I haven't had any issues with it. Between me and the first owner it's done some 12 - 13.000 km, most of them on my watch, and the engine is ticking over very nicely. The relatively short wheelbase is also an asset here in China with the heavy traffic and all the nutjobs on the reads as it makes the bike very agile and manoeuvrable. As far as I've seen the Vulcan is slightly longer with a lower riding position making it more of a traditional cruiser and better suited to European or North American conditions than the Chinese ones.

Took one for a ride. Its alot of fun and looks amazing. If you want a modern cruiser that is light and fast and you like the look of the Ducati Diavel then this is definitely for you. Itll only be a matter of time before a big bore kit is available. Plenty of slip on exhausts and cat deletes and a few visual mods.

I took one for a spin on Saturday from the dealer at Thornton (great , friendly dealership, by the way). I had heaps of fun. It's buttery smooth, gearbox shifts are positive and the gear ratio's perfectly spread. It appears to be more punchy from around 4k rpm than CB500R/F/X and the engine is lot smoother too. Honda feels (and sounds) like a sewing machine in comparison. Bike sounds like a BMW and some Triumphs thanks to 360' crankshaft. Front brake is not as powerful, even though its double disk with radial calipers and it feels gritty. Maybe set of quality pads could fix that. Overall, I'd say brakes are good enough. Ergonomically, its a mixed bag. I am not cruiser rider and I found forward foot pegs bit unnatural, but that is the personal preference - not a bike problem. Handlebar is way too wide. I suppose 15 minutes and a hacksaw could fix that easily. Welds and overall fit and finish is one notch below Honda CB500. I think that price point is too high for this category. Around $8k would be fine, but at just under $10K the value is debatable.

Negatives. Too much vibration, dash cannot been seen with sunlight reflection, seat is way too hard and finding neutral can be difficult & would like to see self cancelling blinkers on a learner bike.
Positives. Looks like a Ducati Diavel, very comfortable riding position, dual front discs are very good, wide handle bars give confidence, big fuel tank that tapers in so legs are not splayed out, led day driving light looks awesome, led blinkers and led Benelli light sign under rear of seat looks classy.
Motorcycles have to pass all types of strict testing before they are allowed to be sold in Australia. How this got through the testing when you cannot see the dash information when the sun is behind or above the bike beggars belief. Not knowing what speed you are doing is dangerous particularly for a learner. Overall a good stylish bike with room for improvement.

Really, really slow as in city traffic turns - fine, although the 'bars are wide and get in the way a little in traffic. Slow speed - like first gear and second gear hairpins when riding harder, easy. @@michaelkurzewski2937 I've been riding Vulcan S for the last 3 years. Being a vertically compact person (I'm 5'6), I opted for reduced-reach handlebar and footpegs. The difference is night and day in terms of handling and comfort. Likewise, if you're taller than average person, you can opt for extended-reach handlebar, footpegs, and seat. Overall, I love my Vulcan S. It's a beast in disguise at mid to high RPM. Harley riders seem to underestimate its power until I smoke them all... with ease. One thing that I don't like about my Vulcan is at low speed and low RPM, the fuel delivery is a bit jerky. Have gone back and forth to the shop for engine tuning to no avail. It makes me start looking for some greener grass next door, with this Benelli as the greenest of the grass. I know it's made in China through and through, and its reliability is still questionable, but this review is so positive it has put me in limbo. To buy, or not to buy: that is the question.

The rider is really tall though. The wheelbase is a decent 1600mm

“Is there another sporty cruiser in the market of any capacity that can handle better than this... there isn’t” you mean this handles better than a Ducati Diavel? Also “it’s got Italian styling” of course it does because it copied the styling of another Italian bike, the Diavel. It sounds like Benelli do good motorcycles so they should just go out there and start doing their own designs as a few of their bikes look eerily similar to other existing motorcycles.

Handles better than the most recent Diavel I have ridden in my opinion, yes. It's lighter and easier to get through the corners on. My XDiavel review is here. bikereview.com.au/2016-ducati-xdiavel-review/
Yep they clearly took some styling from Ducati! Jeff.

BikeReview.com.au Good to know they’re able to make a bike handle even better than the big boys - more competition is always good for us consumers! Hopefully in the future they can get a good designer so that they can distance themselves from other manufacturers and have their own design language.

Marketing strategy. Selling ducati look alike at affordable price. Purist will complain but the rest wont give it a damn.
