It just so much harder the newer the laptop. I prefer not to work on any laptop newer than 2016 as glue has become way too prevalent in the construction of newer laptops.
@@mannyfiler I only run Linux, I got rid of that Windows rubbish when support for Windows 7 ended. That means I can turn much older laptops into great daily driver machines for Linux that are very cheap to upgrade - particularly old Thinkpads like the T420 or X220. Compare that to a recent Lenovo laptop that someone asked me to take a look at - it turns out the SSD interface on the motherboard has gone faulty and to replace the motherboard is around $600 because the memory and CPU are soldered to it. There's no point repairing it. Modern laptops are not worth the money, Windows is a privacy-hating and bloated OS anyway and Linux makes working on older hardware a joy - especially with so many lemmings rushing to upgrade their hardware for Windows 11 meaning a nice load of cheap and used hardware to buy online.
It gives an excellent feeling when high-end laptops from a few years ago are rejuvenated with the highest-end upgrades. Refreshing video, as always! Thank you for uploading, Andrew!
After watching your videos for so long! finally did my first laptop CPU re pasting a few days ago. I was nervous to say the least but all is working fine.
Andrew, you never cease to amaze me with your repair work with these laptops. You are brilliant. I doubt there are many people who have the ingenuity or patience to do what you do, and record it for everyone to see throughout the process. keep up the great work brother!
hey andrew, little tip. warranty stickers are illegal in most countries and dont void your warranty. so you're able to remove them freely without consequences
Its always great to see a top of the line laptop with top of the line parts! Hate to see a laptop running with low storage and ram but with an i7 or dGPU. Awesome vid!
Hi Andrew! Thank you so much for making the videos you make, my wife and I love to watch them together. We're huge tech junkies and enjoy every video you make. I got a question, where are you from? Lol
Very professional and i really enjoy to watch how that laptop from dirty into like a new one. Btw, i feel disgust when seeing those dust in the fans. O boy... That explain Overheat enough.
A little tip... removing stickers that says "warranty void if removed" is actually illegal. the supreme court ruled that consumers can take apart their items for cleaning, upgrading etc... its called The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act which was passed in 1975. so they can put them stickers on laptops. but you have the full rights to clean and upgrade. etc!
kinda funny how people being afraid of voiding the warranty make them not service their devices at the point that it's probably gonna broke since it's so dirty inside, which will make it overheat or even shortciruit something if it's exposed to moisture
The warranty will expire soon and I will change the paste. This laptop is his but he got from a company, so probably some company policy. I don't know why
It is very common for some companies to have comprehensive insurance covering their electronic and computer devices (such as a fleet of cars). The conditions will probably mean that if there is no warranty seal, the insurance will not cover it and its repair will involve a cost for the company (and the employee will earn a warning).
As editor, company will brought me a laptop like i wanted, but any cost for repairing is on my own. So i keep the warranty sticker and never open my working laptop.
Impressive work as always, Bro. This time the laptop owner did not let you take it apart and clean it piece by piece :) I'll take this opportunity to ask: I saw on another channel that cleaned with tap water because they didn't have ionized water and then used an ultrasonic cleaning tank. I always thought this was for cleaning silver. Does anyone know if it can be used for electronics?
I would probably just use some contact cleaner spray to clean the fan and the heatsinks just spray the dust out. Isopropyl alcohol can be expensive to use for soaking + it might have tracest of moisture inside still from storage.
Excellent video, as usual. But is the user a freakin' heavy smoker, or is the laptop in a kitchen, 'cause that dust looks sticky and heavy, holy smoke !
You couldn't tell that it hadn't been in use for a very long time by the looks of those fans. They look like they've spent their lives sucking up blanket lint, lol.
Worth noting that a laptop 3080 Ti is roughly on par with a desktop 3070 Ti, but it has 16GB of Vram, so it'll last for much longer than the desktop equivalent. :)
What warranty? That laptop lost it's warranty at least 2 years ago. Also where does your friend work in the dessert? Also tell your friend to stop smoking near the laptop. That's not dust, dust is grey, that gunk is brown.
Warranty expires in a few months, some company policy where he work. I don't know why. This laptop was everywhere maybe cross 1/3 of the planet :D and yep, smoking, vaping
Putting the keyboard back onto the pc then choosing to clean it wouldn't that just make dirt and grime fall right back into the interior of the laptop again?
in my asus rog s17 GX703HS i changed now too the thermalpaste, and it was cement the liquid metall was not really more on the cpu so but now i got a much better thermals now 3.years waranty are over
I know at least in the US opening up a laptop or breaking stickers cannot void your warrenty. I'm surprised that's still a thing in other countries to see that's allowed
It's hard bro, I mean it's hard to find all that tech that really needs to be fixed or restored for daily uploads. Daily I can do fake videos but not real ones.
2:51, also keep this in mind, removing battery, and pressing Power button after this insures no current left in the circuit and please try to wear anti-static gloves while working, its nicer that way rather than working with bare hands..😊
Never use degreaser on any laptop part. Smh. Use isopropyl alcohol 99% with a toothbrush. If those fans have any kind of lubricant in the bearing, its gone now and they will fail.

great work. Nice to see something newer. But what I like most is when you resurrect these old forgotten devices, with mods like color change etc. I am waiting for some lenovo thinkpad.
all modern computers since 2000's all are Hot Swap, meaning if the battery is in, won't destroy the RAM. What I do se you NOT doing is anti static wrist strap keeping yourself grounded, even if the battery is taken out, you still could damage the system board.
Not true, hotswap may not affect a desktop PC but it sure can damage laptops e.g. dead backlights etc. and the anti-static angle is pretty dumb in 2024, it's well researched that modern electronics can easily handle lots of static discharge without failure, watch LTT and Electroboom collab on the topic.
I rarely use hot swap. To avoid something like that I just clean my hands and its enough to touch some metal, also while working I always wear cloths that cannot cause charging and discharging. Hot swap is like something "professional" but in theory. In more that 15 years working with this I never saw somebody to cause something from static.

It would be best if you changed the thermal paste & thermal pads.
Using isopropyl alcohol and a degreaser will remove all the grease from the fan bearings, which should then be regreased.
Mostly I do re-gresse, if the fan is removable then it's easy, if is not then using syringe and thin needle
Putting the keyboard back onto the pc then choosing to clean it wouldn't that just make dirt and grime fall right back into the interior of the laptop again?
