Demo’d the Trek Rail 7 this past Sunday (4/5/20). What a pleasure to ride! I’ve got a 12 year old Specialized S-Works Epic carbon (an excellent bike in its time), but its like a Model T compared to this thing. Since I’m 55 and live in the Denver, Colorado area, doing the hills, which are everywhere, on my Specialized was getting kinda old. Set the Rail 7 to Tour mode, and I was up the hills before I could even get tired. Did about 75 minutes total in the demo and with the wind we had, I’d have been wasted riding my old Specialized. With the Rail 7, I could’ve gone another two or three hour’s easily with a huge smile on my face too! No question this bike will get me out on the trails more often and for longer and I’ll be having infinitely more fun!!!! Time to take the plunge and buy this eMountain Bike and let the good times roll! Thanks for your help Rob and I will be using many more of your videos to help me on my odyssey!!!!

Hey Rob, great video. I can’t imagine how many hours you put into this with all the test riding , editing, etc . Thanks for doing it. I bought a 2020 Felt Surplus 50 recently. It’s a hard tail . I saved a bit of money for going hardtail. I mostly do easy float trails and thought it would fit my needs. It’s a great bike with the Shimano e7000 motor. I should have ponyed up the extra cash for the Full suspension version. I’d like to see you test some short travel or value emtbs too. @@nickprice9180 E150 or 180? Would be interested to hear your experience with it and riding style.. I currently ride a G170, testing an E150 on Monday.
Oliver Read didn’t get to test the 180, but 150 is enough for what I need and do. Really notice the low weight as Whyte have twisted the motor to get the battery sitting even lower- makes it so stable and inspires confidence on everything. I have upped the fork to 160 so slightly decrease the head angle and now even more sorted. Low bb means I have had a few pedal strikes compared to old bike, but just need to adjust riding to accommodate
Oliver Read would think so, I felt a little perched on the Levo and feel more part of it with the whyte, reach is good as well as I am 6’2”, 95kg and have monkey length arms. There a group of a few Whyte eBike owners on Facebook ‘Whyte eBike Riders’ if you have any questions from people that already have one
Hi Rob.... Another great video. You have got to ride and review the Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay. The motor is phenomenal and it is as good if not better than the Brose. No joke.
I rent them out, Cube Acid hybrid ones with 500W batteries. Yes in my opinion the best bang for bike E-mtb on the market. They do have gen4 bosch performance engines. weigh roughly 22-23 kg and cost less then half of the video's cheapest option. Obviously hard tail (€ 2099,- msrp) The simple reliable 9-speed deore drivetrains just work fine with the powerful engine. You don't need massive gear range on an E-Mtb. Heck i'd go as far as it's just a waste of money on overpriced casettes with electric bikes. (absolutely not the case without pedal assistance)
Fantastic video review, really detailed and loved seeing the trail footage. I do have a question for you: What would you say are the essential differences between the Specialized Kenevo and the Levo? I'm trying to decide between the two. I used to be an avid mountain biker, but it's been over 20 years. I'm 58 and fit and looking to get back into it. Thanks!
These over the top prices are not going down too well under current circumstances. They are beautiful bikes with top tech and materials but price tags are disgustingly disturbing..

Hi Rob, loving the reviews and videos - keep up the good work!! Watched the Buyers Guide and heading towards ORBEA WILD FS or TURBO LEVO. I'm after a more trail focused bike (bit of road and a bit of single track). What's your choice?
Affordable is relative. I just got back from riding in Phoenix with a group of friends on normal bikes. I’ll bet the average cost of their all carbon bikes was $10k CAN or more. From that prospective, ebikes are bargin.
I agree , im not spending 10k on an ebike either. To be fair there are many models that cost around 5x less than the 10k ones :) its all about the weight reduction.

If you had to choose your favourite from these bikes what would it be?
Best regards from Germany 🍻
Any but currently riding the Kenevo as my personal bike
Rob Rides EMTB OK thank you. It‘s hard to make a decision with so many good bikes 🤪
Need to buy at least three different models to get satisfied 😉
Great clip. Just what I needed to see. About to purchase!
E bikes are great but I miss the feel and lightness of a simple non powered mountain bike for short trips.
Hey Rob, I have probably watched every video that has ever been on UA-cam about EMTB's. By far your Videos are my favorite! Keep up the great work. How do you like the new Bosh Performance motors compared the the Brose motor? Christopher USA
I do wish the motor wouldn’t cut out so abruptly at 18.5mph, but otherwise love it. That being said my next bike will be full suspension. I should have ponyed up the extra cash for the Full suspension version. I’d like to see you test some short travel or value emtbs too. What do you think is a good value option for someone who’s only rides easy trails? I like the base yt decoy and the base Levo.
Focus Thron looks great
Great reviews, nice silky 4K footage as well. Subbed
Hi Rob,so enthusiastic in posting your stunning videos im my little italian group:emtb lovers versilia in tuscany.Great job! Wanna ask you if actually whic is the most capable all rounder emtb you prefer, and if you choose to change from levo to kenevo not only for a more funny and poppy bike but expecially because you wanna partecipate enduro race?ty.
Looking to buy, this helped great show!
I‘ve got the s-works turbo levo and will keep my smiling when riding
How much you got it for and in which country?
Me too buddy, I love it!!
And maybe your bank account is also smiling. cooooool
Mari Lakay don‘t worry, i got a second levo turbo for my wife, so we can enjoy the rides together
iniadekurniawan saputra with all upgrades like AXS I‘ve paid CHF 13‘500
The Kenevo is actually reasonably priced for specialized standards
it's highly over priced !!
all thew components on Kenevo bikes cost 3 times less minimum !!
@@x111-c4f and the frame
Can’t wait for your review of the Norco Range VLT. I have a feeling it will feel like the Kenevo but at a better value
Very nice insight 👌 this is the year
Excellent choice of bikes. Great review. Thanks!
Would like to see the Whyte E150 & E180
Max b would agree from all the demos I had this rode the best and now have one and is amazing
@@nickprice9180 thanks. My G170 is low so I'm used to pedal strikes! Tested a Levo and felt too high.. hoping the E150 will be more up my street.
I got my Cube Stereo Hybrid 160 HPC tm yesterday. So much bike for the money.😉
Leider Bosch oder?
Ja mit Bosch.
You for got the best bike of all the Luna apollo takes the win in performance and price.
Rob...... You've done it again, good work mate... My mind is all over the shot on what bike to grab;) #kudos
I was going to buy 6 of these bikes instead I got myself an 2019 Audi avant rs6
Can't ride that on trails.
How the insurance/registration/inspection on that and gas prices + maintenance holding up for you. E bikes you just charge and go!!
I was going to get a 2019 Audi RS6 Avant. Instead, I got a 2016 Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4.
Hi Rob.... Another great video. You have got to ride and review the Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay. The motor is phenomenal and it is as good if not better than the Brose. No joke.
No need to focus when you ride the 💪TREK👽❤ RAIL
I thought the cube would be in there for 'best bang for buck' ???
Great video! Great reviews 👌🏾
Rob great channel buddy, keep up the great work.. :)
Great video and good information.
Cheers Richard
Fantastic video review, really detailed and loved seeing the trail footage. I do have a question for you:
What would you say are the essential differences between the Specialized Kenevo and the Levo? I'm trying to decide between the two. I used to be an avid mountain biker, but it's been over 20 years. I'm 58 and fit and looking to get back into it.
Thanks!
Nevermind, just found your comparison!
These over the top prices are not going down too well under current circumstances. They are beautiful bikes with top tech and materials but price tags are disgustingly disturbing..
Merida! Thank you for that review of the Merida. very well said review
Trek rail is what I want to see .
I just ordered the Trek Rail 9.7! From all the research that I have done It should be a great bike.
Really want to see a proper review of the commencal meta power
Im definitely getting one to test from Commencal.
Needs the Bosch motor
Good review ,thanks
Fantastic review. Thanks!
That YT Decoy is such a beauty
too sad its powered by the worst motor in the range
Thank you so much, Rob, for sharing an amazing Buying Guide video with us. This Video really helps me a lot and I've learned pretty new things from you. #Go_on_Rob.
Sound like they all are great. Not a problem with anything.
Maybe you could do a review on reliability and problems because it does seem to me that used ebike prices hit the floor quickly that's were I will buy unless these prices come down.
Hey,if you are interested would you like to see our collection? We are number 1 Online retailer of high end electric hunting bikes. Free Shipping, No Sales Tax & six month price match guarantee.I can drop you the link if you are interested.
Just got levo expert month ago😁😁😁2020 is going to rock
Would you now include on this list the new LaPierre GLP 2 Team that you tested? Currently on AllMtn 9.0 which has been amazing as a first eMTB but the weight and centre of gravity from battery placement has always made the bike feel less agile. Would appreciate your thoughts Rob.
Have you tried the giant reign EBike just wondering your thoughts on that one 🤙🏼
some great bikes but very expensive. I've picked up a practically new vitus E-sommet VR 2019, 7 months only covered 200 miles from e-bay for £2350. Bargains are out there you just have to be patient and keep looking
Hi Rob, nice Reviews. I have the choise between
Focus Jam2 6.6 (Shimano) for 3600€
Jam 6.7 with the louder (i think) motor for 3800€
Turbo Levo FSR (Entry Level) for 4300€
I cannot test the bike in the current situation. Can you give me your choise or a tip? Please.
What the hell justifies these high prices? You can buy a really good car for that money.
Short answer: Supply and demand. Longer answer: Economies of scale. There's a good read about the subject here: www.singletracks.com/mtb-gear/the-cost-of-mountain-biking-part-two-why-premium-mountain-bikes-are-expensive/
@@keithbee2632 Thank you so much.
Its hard to explain how much fun these ebikes are. Mine dominates everything in the world. I have 1O.75" rear wheel travel and the frame will never break. Ever! Going into production soon. It will easily be over 10k . Fully billet. Sick bike. I started all the long travel stuff in the 90's and im back. Have hidden my bike and designs for 20 years. Domination.
Hi Rob, loving the reviews and videos - keep up the good work!! Watched the Buyers Guide and heading towards ORBEA WILD FS or TURBO LEVO. I'm after a more trail focused bike (bit of road and a bit of single track). What's your choice?
What about Rotwild ? I think and hope that, the more you talk about this bike, the more Rotwild will increase their distributors in Europe.
Those prices are extremely unaffordable.
Affordable is relative. I just got back from riding in Phoenix with a group of friends on normal bikes. I’ll bet the average cost of their all carbon bikes was $10k CAN or more. From that prospective, ebikes are bargin.
Bike (MTB and even more road) have always been expensive. Emtb are no exception. In life best product are expensive
I agree , im not spending 10k on an ebike either. To be fair there are many models that cost around 5x less than the 10k ones :) its all about the weight reduction.
@@amazingvidguyz I think around 4 to 4 and half is enough. There's hardly any difference in power output anyway, it's the components that'll be the upgrade..
The prices sort of jar your brains for a moment. If it’s really reliable, well built, very well engineered then........ok!
i got a cube stereo 140 sl based on your review. i rode the focus beforehand and it wasnt for me. also, a carbon 29er ebike for 4k?? im astonished the cube wasnt included
Abcdef Ghijkl, you’re quite right! I bought the 2020 CUBE STEREO HYBRID 140 HPC SL 625 29 for 4.500€. I still can’t believe how much Cube offers for the money!
Yap a shame that this bike wasnt on the list lol. They totally ignored the price factor
I have a smash guard on my endro.....for a reason.....what do you recommend on protecting the bottom bracket and the bottom part of the battery. i want to keep drivetrain safe.. digg your videos. cheers!
A list of 10 thousand dollar bikes that noone can afford. If the industry wants people to replace their car or vehicles with a bicycle. They need to bring the price point way way down. WAY DOWN
Hi Ian, for sure prices are really high right now. I do plan to feature some lower priced ebikes as soon as possible. Cheers, Rob.
@@RobRidesEMTB This is a video that says, dream bikes. They are the best of the best. There are plenty of videos for affordable electric bikes out there.
Hi Rob, thanks for the great video. Regarding the geometry the mondraker crafty r is my favorite right now. I already rode the Levo, the Norco sight vlt and the trek rail. How does it compare to any of those? Do you think there is a big difference in the handling between the carbon and the aluminum version of the crafty?
The focus seems to be a good offer too but I read that the shock lacks support? What do you think and do you know with which volume spacer the shock comes stock? Thank you for your help. Cheers!
Hey Rob! Any chance you will get your hands on the new Ghost Hybride ASX 6.7+😬? Looks like a great bike, would be cool to get your thoughts on it. Keep up the great videos👍
Yeah hopefully but we don’t get them in the UK
Will you be doing a review on the Whyte e150? So many to choice from it's hard
Apollo Valier.£1120.30mph or 48kph.1000w 48v17•5Ah battery. Might not be as good. Bit does me fine. These prices are taking the piss.
Nice bikes, and glad they are affordable for us poorer folk. I don't want to spend more than £25,000 for an electric mountain bike.
I’m totally impressed
Too much money for a vehicle with no stereo but I'd go with haibike like sam
🤣😂🤣 28kg like sam
Hi Rob
Have you had a go on the whyte e150? If so what do you think of it?
I would like to know what you think of the e150 rs.
Thanks for any help
Hi Yan no I haven’t but have heard great things about it 👍
Pretty much a luxury item.
Do these bikes come with reasonable mileage 2nd hand cars included in the price? 7k for a bike?
Missing the Scott Genius. That thing looks amazing. just got a Giant Reing e+ its mad fun
Never tested it!
Thanks Rob, I appreciate your input. I'm leaning towards the Levo. Do you think I should wait until 2021? Due to another improvement? Or just get the 2020?
Maybe, I bought a 2018 Turbo Levo Expert with the 500ha battery & the next month Specialized came out with the 700ha battery. So I can't ride with others that have the 700ha. I have to manage my battery by riding in Eco & Trail & they ride the entire time in Turbo mode & they're just gone! Wish I would have waited!
I have ordered the focus jam2 29er and its comming to my mail around 2 weeks
Its my first fully suspention bike and my first e bike
I'm no pro but this is the bike I've have been riding the last 12 months and love pretty much everything about it
Nick Sr Witch one the focus
@@borge170 I have the 2019 Focus Jam2 and have loved it, I think I need a larger frame so I'm looking at the 2020
Nick Sr So what u gonna do with the 2019 version
I think a hub motor would definitely survive downhill obstacle courses better
Could you please rank how quiet each of the bikes you’ve ridden is? Thank you!
Orbea ❤️
I see that designers could not get rid of the classic triangle shape of the frame.
"bat-tree" 🤣 us yanks love ya brits
You lot and yer aloo min um its ALUMIN IUM
@@roylaw7765 You're funny... we spell it ALUMINUM so it's pronounced differently here and in Canada. However, BATTERY is spelled the same but brits choose to mispronounce it like CHINA as "CHINER" 🤣

cw205mi16 Yeah, true. Well, at least the US will continue calling it China as the most powerful nation, even though it existed after Britain.
Hi . I need some help. I'm looking to buy my first e mountain bike in the new year. I've tried the 2019 turbo levo and was blown away. But I'm after a bike with the most assistance witch is the flyon tq 120. But I'm not a fan of the haibike style. My budget is up to 7k. Is the flyon motor going to be fitted to other brands. Hope you can. Help. Keep up the great work. Your reviews are the best on UA-cam.
If you haven't looked into them frey bikes offer more power and are reasonably specked bikes at literally half the price of the Flyon. Iv'e never ridden one but i do have an ebike with the same motor, the Bafang g510 motor (m620) only mine is boosted to 2000 watts and 180nm of torque..They are proven strong and reliable motors. The good thing about them is they are fast and fun up down or sideways..
