Tim Staples highlights several key passages in Scripture which directly refute the Protestant doctrine of salvation by faith alone and show that Jesus established the Catholic Church as the true authority of His Word.
Tim Staples is Director of Apologetics and Evangelization here at Catholic Answers, but he was not always Catholic. Tim was raised a Southern Baptist. Although he fell away from the faith of his childhood, Tim came back to faith in Christ during his late teen years through the witness of Christian televangelists. Soon after, Tim joined the Marine Corps.
During his four-year tour, he became involved in ministry with various Assemblies of God communities. Immediately after his tour of duty, Tim enrolled in Jimmy Swaggart Bible College and became a youth minister in an Assembly of God community. During his final year in the Marines, however, Tim met a Marine who really knew his faith and challenged Tim to study Catholicism from Catholic and historical sources. That encounter sparked a two-year search for the truth. Tim was determined to prove Catholicism wrong, but he ended up studying his way to the last place he thought he would ever end up: the Catholic Church!
He converted to Catholicism in 1988 and spent the following six years in formation for the priesthood, earning a degree in philosophy from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, Pennsylvania. He then studied theology on a graduate level at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, for two years. Realizing that his calling was not to the priesthood, Tim left the seminary in 1994 and has been working in Catholic apologetics and evangelization ever since.
If you are interested in booking Tim Staples for an upcoming event, please contact Catholic Answers at (619) 387-7200 or seminars@catholic.com.

@@dominiccugliari2282 friend you should do your research.
The first time "A church" was called catholic was in 110, but this was base on those that were a lined with it. Do your math.
By 381 the catholic church wasn't the same. And changed as "Roman Catholic Church."
Sometimes we do our history, but we don't go all the way deep to reading what is not convenient.
Romans brought in there culture, policies, laws, habits, morals, etc.... to the Catholic Church.
Before Constantine, people had to come by a name which helped them be protected by those persecuting them. And those a lined by the Catholic Church had to say they were Catholic.
I recommend you read everything you can read about Constantine and the cult of Isis and Mithraic.
Read about "what happen to those that worship a God by the name of Diana in the bible?"
Now..... Friend, if I were to tell you just by reading the bible would you find yourself to be catholic?
Like; would you ever know about the Hail Mary prayer without any catholic telling you?
Would you ever believe that a dead saint can actually speak for you while he or she is in heaven?
Would you ever believe peter was the first Pope?
Would you ever believed in the purgatory?
What about the remembrance in the statues or images?
These are just a few things.
But what I want to get to is this.
Do you really believe Christ is going to recognize you by being called catholic? Is he going to recognize you by a certain church building?
I'm no where close to being called catholic. But..... I can say we are the church for following christ. But one thing is to say it. And the other thing is that Christ can recognize you as his church which is way different.
I don't mean to sound smart. Nor did I comment you to be mean.
Just thought maybe you can use a push on some subjects or maybe give you a few thoughts to open.

@Philip Carpenter when you were a child did your parents know things that you didn't? Did ever listen to them because you loved them, respected them and had the understanding that they probably knew better than you? You have a choice to either humble yourself and follow the path that God provides and trust in him or you can go your own way. You can be the one who decides what is good and what is evil. You can live for your own purpose and maybe you can manipulate some gullible people into following you. You can live your life to the fullest and have everything that the world has to offer, because you have placed your faith in the world. Here's the kicker though. You don't get to take it with you when you're dead. Faith in what God offers you carries on even after you die. Faith in the world dies in the world. Either way like it or not you have faith too. It's just a very short sighted faith that will never satisfy or last. Only faith in Jesus is eternal and saves. You have faith in dust. I have faith in the creator of the universe. You wouldn't be on here posting comments like this unless you were feeling empty and thirsting for something more. There is more for you than dust.

The easiest way to refute this is to look at the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15. Many men came to that council saying that the Gentiles and Jews alike needed to keep the laws of Moses in order to be saved. Yet, the Jerusalem Council gathered together to discuss this matter and their findings were not only very clear, but the biggest rebuke of Catholic doctrine found in Scripture: “Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.” Acts‬ ‭15:10-11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

    • @bobloblawb2593
      @bobloblawb2593 3 роки тому

@Cortney Nicholson Eph 2:10 shows us that we were created to do GOOD works not bad works . God is the one that we go to and He directs us to those Good works that He wants us to do. 1 Cor 3:11-15 is the context of verse 15. There is no purgatory nor any need of purgatory because Christ died on the cross for every sin we have done are doing or will do. We are forgiven when we repent and follow Christ . God gives us salvation as a gift as evidenced by Eph 2: through faith. You might notice the term through faith has nothing attached to it , not alone , not works , not anything. Eph 2: also points out that God places our spirits in the heavenly realm with Jesus after we repent. Our flesh that does not inherit the kingdom of God is what we have to work with and on. 1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins we are mostly clean? That is what purgatory claims.
Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
He saved us , is not the same as He is saving us. So back to building on the foundation of Christ in 1 Cor 3: , you can not build with sin so sin is not in question here and purgatory is for getting rid of the stain of sin. Coll 2:9-15 tells you that Christ dying on the cross for you and did everything for you already to make you clean . 1 Cor 6: gives you a whole mess of things we have done before Christ came into our lives and verse 11 points out what we WERE and what has happened to us because of Christ.
The wood hay and stubble of our lives is what we do thinking it is pleasing to God and that is not His will for us.
The gold silver and precious gems is the work that God has directed us to do and there are rewards for service to God as Paul points out. You are building on the foundation of Christ , you are building up the church with what you do . Faith in action .
James 2:15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you tells him, “Go in peace; stay warm and well fed,” but does not provide for his physical needs, what good is that? 17 So too, faith by itself, if it does not result in action, is dead.
Do you think this is worth a reward from God or is this some wood hay and stubble that you have built with?

Maybe the Catholics would like to explain away that part of the NT where it says in later times deceiving spirits would come, forbidding men to marry, amongst other things.
All this absolute nonsense discussion and controversy and misunderstanding between faith and works. It's not difficult, actually it's so pathetic and shameful that a whole bunch of mature Christians have to endlessly debate a basic belief of the Bible. No wonder non believers mock us.
When you first become saved, it's purely by faith. You cannot earn it and only the sacrifice of Jesus provides it. Think of the thief on the cross. He could not do any works hanging on the cross. But he believed and was saved.
    However..........
After time, there is process of sanctification as the Bible states, means that you grow in faith. The thief on the cross could not do any good works, he could not grow in faith, he could not grow in knowledge of the scriptures. If however he was suddenly pardoned after confessing Jesus he would bear fruit, as Jesus said. That means good works, in accordance with your faith, it means growing in hope, love, goodness, kindness etc, it means repentance of dead works and sin, it means growing in knowledge of the scriptures, in prayer, in devotion in daily life.
You are saved by faith only. If you, like the thief on the cross, have a couple of hours to live and are immobile and cannot do anything, good or bad, you are saved exclusively by belief and confession of the name of Jesus. If like the most of us you continue to live upon this earth, then your faith grows and you increase in fruits of the Spirit, in works and deeds, in knowledge etc.
It's not hard to understand. This is just basic and to our shame as Christians we debate even the milk of the word, as Paul said.
The entrance to Heaven is by faith in Christ. Nothing else. The life you love in Christ, your works, deeds, devotion, love, patience, kindness etc determine your rewards in Heaven, again as Paul says. After confessing Christ if you are truly devoted to Him, you will grow in works, deeds, repentance, love, kindness, patience etc. When the Bible says that faith without works is dead, it means those who confess Christ but are not really devoted to Him afterwards. It means false or shallow disciples, those who believe but don't bear fruit as Jesus said in the parable of the sower. They stagnate in their faith and do not grow in Him. Hence they produce no good works or anything else such as repentance, goodness, kindness, patience, gentleness love etc.
This is all just basic Biblical teaching. There should be no misunderstanding of such an elementary teaching of the Bible and its to professing Christians shame that such debate occurs.

So you just made yourself into your own Pope claiming authority to interpret the Bible. Big deal. The difference between you and the Pope is that he was given authority by Christ and you were not. Do you think truth is determined by a democracy of ideas in which each man follows his own understanding? The Bible teaches that truth is determined by authority, not by deciding what you think is the best argument. Your unexamined method of exegesis is not Biblical; it's a man made tradition invented by Luther. Every man can write their own version of what you wrote, but so what? Yes, the Catholic Church claims authority from Christ; it's the only Church with apostolic succession from St Peter to the current Pope. Your [insert any Protestant denomination] church was made by someone other than Christ.

I spent 55 years in the Presbyterian Church. This was after Dad left the Catholic Church when I was 6 or 7. I came very close to converting to Catholicism as a teenager or young adult but I got scared away because I didn't understand the mass. There was one teaching that kept me away and it wasn't Mary or the usual things that Protestants object to. It was divorce and remarriage. Mom was divorced before Dad married her. Its why he left the Church. My wife divorced her first husband to marry me. I saw no way of ever becoming Catholic because of what Dad said about leaving the Catholic Church. I didn't know about annulments or anything. Mary was another issue but not like divorce. Once I saw someone who I knew had a divorce and converted to Catholicism, that opened my heart to Catholicism. I began looking at Catholic teaching. I had already left Protestantism. I knew my church was false. 1 Timothy 3:15 showed me that scripture alone or bible alone was unbiblical. Do not be led astray, there are several passages that speak of justification (salvation) by faith alone. Examples: Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 2:16, Romana 5:1. Of course works are crucial to an individual’s sanctification, or the process of being made like Christ, it is merely a reflection of the internal work that God has performed. In other words, you are saved through faith alone and you will want do works to show the world what God has done for you (essentially showing fruits of the spirit).

This is my complaint with contemporary Roman apologists: they are simply hypocrites, accusing other Christians of the very same failings that they enthusiastically plunge into. The blindness is that they only see the error when others make it, and don't see that they are making it too.

John makes this perfectly clear in his Epistles, as does James.

Grew up a Catholic, revered Jesus and respected Mary as the blessed mother of God. Prayed many Hail Mary's and Our Fathers. Encountered priests nuns and brothers that didn't seem particularly happy and certainly was led to feel less than and kept in their religious prison. Never felt free to be where I was at. But I was a Catholic and I was cool with that. At 34 encountered Pentecostal church. Had a profound encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. Was given a greater understanding of who I was in Christ and formed a relationship with the Holy Spirit that is still marvellous until this day. In the Catholic Church I learnt reverence but the general feel amongst the Catholics was that the protestants were beneath us. That did not seem like love to me. In the protestant church I found freedom in the Holy Spirit and was able to forge a real relationship with Jesus. Protestants reckon the Pope is the Antichrist and they're also way to fixated on the devil ( deliverance ministry). I certainly agree with the bible that states Mary is greatly blessed amongst all women, but I believe many Catholics pray more to Mary than they do through Christ to the Father. I've listened to Catholic scholars attempt to use scripture to say that Mary is queen of heaven. The scriptures they use seem to stretch the bow a little bit. Until I see it by revelation in the scriptures, I don't have an opinion either way. I believe Protestants and Catholics are part of the body of Christ and it would certainly be wonderful if they would stop arguing over one word. What a Glorious Church to behold if we could truly come together as one united body. Reminds me of that Catholic song " and we pray that our unity will one day be restored and they'll know we are Christians by our love." Lift your game brethren stop having to be right. Come together in love ❤️ in Jesus name. Peace and Grace.

There are two kinds of works- one is flesh driven and one is holy spirit driven. You can do charity works, feed the poor, give money to poor, help people in so many ways but if it's not out of love then it's no use. PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY AS IF YOUR ETERNAL “LIFE” DEPENDED ON IT
In the Book of Hebrews Chapter 10, in context, the author was talking to “baptized” Christians (Hebrews 10:22) telling them to not be “neglecting to meet together” in “the Church” - being the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH. Why “the Church”???
***Hebrews 10:26-29 “For IF WE SIN DELIBERATELY after receiving knowledge of the truth, THERE NO LONGER REMAINS A SACRIFICE FOR SINS, BUT A FEARFUL PROSPECT OF JUDGMENT, AND A FURY OF FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES………..HOW MUCH MORE PUNISHMENT DO YOU THINK WILL BE DESERVED BY THE MAN WHO HAS SPURNED THE SON OF GOD, AND PROFANED THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT BY WHICH HE HAS SANCTIFIED, AND OUTRAGED THE SPIRIT OF GRACE”.***
What does Sacred Scriptures clearly say “IF WE SIN DELIBERATELY” or willfully break any of the commandments whether the old (10 Commandments) or NEW (Laws of LOVE or refusing to LOVE as Christ commands per John 13:34)??? If “THERE NO LONGER REMAINS A SACRIFICE FOR SINS, BUT A FEARFUL PROSPECT OF JUDGMENT”, then how does one obtain reconciliation with GOD again???
We must examine the old covenant to fully understand the NEW COVENANT. In Leviticus 5:5-6 and Numbers 5:5-9 we understand what an old covenant Jew had to do to receive GOD's forgiveness. Additionally, GOD in the Books of Leviticus and Numbers any time personal “sin” is even mentioned you will read over and over again “THUS THE PRIEST SHALL MAKE ATONEMENT FOR A MAN’S SINS AND IT WILL BE FORGIVEN” (Lev 4:20, 4:26, 4:31,4:35, 5:6, 5:10, 5:13, 5:16, 5:18, 6:7, 7:7, 12:8, 14:18, 14:19, 14:20, 14:29, 14:31, 15:15, 15:30, 16:32, 16:33, 19:22 Num. 6:11,15:25, and 15:28). In the old covenant, GOD clearly uses ordained “men”, the Leviticus Priesthood, to administer His forgiveness.
Now, does GOD keep His WORD and covenant promises??? GOD promises to have a perpetual priesthood per His covenant in Numbers 25:12-13 and Malachi 2:4-7 and has WORDS of “forever” in Exodus 29:7-9, 40:15, and 1 Chronicles 23:13. Then, GOD promises to have a perpetual priesthood in Jeremiah 33:14-22 NEW COVENANT PROPHECY. And, in context of “gathering the nations” in Isaiah 66:18 GOD states in Isaiah 66:21 “some of them also I will take for priests”, meaning no longer based on Levi tribal lineage in the NEW COVENANT. In John Chapter 13, we see Jesus Christ fulfilling His Father’s Levi Covenant promise and Malachi 3:3 prophecy, when He sits down in the upper room “purifying” the NEW COVENANT PRIESTHOOD with a “washing”. This “washing” was a “forever” priestly liturgical GOD command in Exodus 30:21- in order to perform any altar work or sacrifice.
What “same” power does the Son of GOD give to His ONE and ONLY established Church or “the Church” per Matthew 16:19, 18:18 and specifically explained to the NEW COVENANT PRIESTHOOD by Jesus in John 20:21-23???
In 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 St. Paul describes what Jesus Christ did was He “GAVE US THE MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION” and concluded “SO WE ARE AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST”. An “ambassador” wields what kind of power as an “official representative” of Christ or more specifically explained in “the Church” as “persona Christi”???
Please come or return to your real home and be “reconciled” to “the Church” HIS ONE BODY (Ephesians 4:4-6). What did Jesus Christ create, pray for in John 17:21-23 and die for??? If you really LOVE Jesus Christ, then you will respond to His prayer and join the “ONENESS” that He created. The “Lamb of GOD” wants to unite with you in the NEW COVENANT PASSOVER (Luke 22:19) in His ONE and ONLY established Church, so we all can be “perfectly ONE”. May GOD richly bless you on your journey.

I respectfully disagree with the speaker on this isssue of works. I do not believe that works save or justify. Only through faith and by grace are we saved. Works should be as a result of faith, fruits that you bear because you believe and not the means to salvation. Therefore if one truly believes then their actions will show. "You shall know them by their fruit". (Mathew 7:15-20). The issue with works, especially for me, is: How many works do I need to perform in order for me to be saved? If I fail to do 1 or 2 works, is my salvation canceled? Do works include the obedience of the law?
Do not get me wrong, for me works are important and everyone's words and actions will be judged and will be repaired accordingly. But no one will enter the Kingdom of God if they do not believe for "...it is impossible to please God without faith."(Hebrews 11:6). This is a matter that ever Christian ought to look into and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to them. Shalom

First off, it's hard to nail down what protestants teach because there are over 40,000 denominations and sects within protestantism, each with it's own set of doctrines and biblical interpretations. Like Tim said in the video, some protestant groups are moving back to an understanding of "faith AND works." That it is our faith in Christ that gives us the grace to do great works in His name, and bring His light to the world.
However, a lot of protestants (including Martin Luther himself) insisted that no works were required. In fact, Martin Luther famously said "If the mercy is true, you must therefore bear the true, not an imaginary sin. God does not save those who are only imaginary sinners. Be a sinner, and let your sins be strong (sin boldly), but let your trust in Christ be stronger, and rejoice in Christ who is the victor over sin, death, and the world." So not only did he preach against needing works WITH faith, he advocated for us to sin boldly because it was our faith alone. This, of course, ignores Jesus' own words in John 14:15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." (many of his commandments through the New Testament being works-based; alms giving, loving our neighbor as He loved us, praying for our enemies, evangelizing all nations would be a few examples.)

    1. Our, absolute, GREATEST works are as filthy rags before the LORD (Isaiah 64 : 6). We receive salvation and are justified through Christ, alone.
    2. Yes. True faith is accompanied by some form of "works." To be an apple tree one must produce, at least, one apple or it's lying. However, we can never deserve anything but eternal damnation aside from what God accomplished in Jesus Christ. FULLY trusting in Him, ALONE, is true faith in the Gospel; Which IS Salvation. No matter what we do, no one is worthy on their own (Ephesians 2 : 8 - 9). What our thanksgiving inspired works earns us are 1 or more of the "5 Crowns" of Heaven described in Scriptures. And even these should all, humbly, be placed at His feet anyway. There are too many verses to list the crowns here, but look them up on your own.
    3. God has always forbidden His people from partaking in the pagan, demon-inspired practices / symbolisms of other peoples. We do NOT incorporate these things into our practices just to make things more palatable for pagans in order to lure them into the congregation. Scriptures say that God's elect are a "peculiar" people who are "strangers" and "pilgrims" in this world. The mitre hats, pinecone statues, burning incense, etc... I could go on for hours. How dare we present filth before the LORD?! Would a man's wife want a ring that was designed to the liking of her husband's mistress?.. Even IF he cleaned it up and wanted to present it to his wife. No! She would scoff at the very notion.
    4. One of the 10 Commandments forbids making and honoring graven images of anything in heaven, on Earth, or beneath the waters... Lest we, ignorantly, honor things made by human hands out of wood, stone, and metal instead of He who made these materials themselves.
    5. There is only ONE "Holy Father" and He is above all things! Amen... "Potentate" is used ONCE in the entire Holy Bible... 1 Timothy 6 : 15 "Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and ONLY Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords"
    6. As virtuous as Mary was there is no intercession thru anyone other than Christ. If ANYONE could live their entire life without sin, the LORD Himself wouldn't have needed to come and be the final propitiation for mankind (Isaiah 53 : 6). Even the veil of the old temple was rent in two. God has now given us direct access to Him in the Holy Ghost that guides and lives in us. We the believers are the "church." The following Scripture references ancient pagan goddess worship (Asherah among many other names) ; Which still goes on till this day... Jeremiah 7 : 18 "The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the QUEEN OF HEAVEN, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger."
    7. The true "Church" belongs to Jesus Christ. There is no one good or Holy but Him. There is no person or group of people that can tell another that they are not a part of His church (Excommunicated, Disfellowshiped, etc...). I'm not speaking of those with a "reprobate mind" who would, obviously, NOT be seeking God, holy fellowship, and deliverance from a sinful spiritual stronghold anyway. We were purchased with the price of His blood, and wholly belong to Him... Romans 8 : 38 - 39 "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
John 10 : 28... "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."
There are other doctrinal issue that I could address, but this is enough for now. May the Holy Ghost lead us into all truth and righteousness, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Do you understand what this means? This is pertaining to Jewish law. The law as in circumcision/uncircumcision, things to eat/ things not to eat, things…….ceremonial laws etc.
      Matthew 12:3-8 KJ21
But He said unto them, "Have ye not read what David did when he hungered and they that were with him: [4] how he entered into the house of God and ate the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for those who were with him, but only for the priests? [5] Or have ye not read in the law how on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are blameless? [6] But I say unto you, that in this place is One greater than the temple. [7] But if ye had known what this meaneth, 'I will have mercy and not sacrifice,' ye would not have condemned the guiltless. [8] For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath day."
      Matthew 15:2-11 KJ21
"Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they wash not their hands when they eat bread." [3] But He answered and said unto them, "Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? [4] For God commanded, saying, 'Honor thy father and mother,' and, 'He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.' [5] But ye say that whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, 'by whatsoever thou might have profited by me, it is a gift,' [6] and honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. [7] Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, [8] 'This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoreth Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. [9] But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.'" [10] And He called the multitude and said unto them, "Hear and understand: [11] Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man, but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man."
      Matthew 15:17-20 KJ21
Do ye not yet understand that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the drain? [18] But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart, and they defile the man. [19] For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: [20] these are the things which defile a man. But to eat with unwashed hands defileth not a man."

      PAUL s words
      Romans 2:1-10 KJ21
Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art who judgest; for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself, for thou that judgest doest the same things. [2] But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who commit such things. [3] And thinkest thou this, O man, who judgest those who do such things and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? [4] Or despisest thou the riches of His goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? [5] But because of thy hardness and impenitence of heart, thou treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the Day of Wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, [6] who will render to every man according to his deeds: [7] to those who by patient continuance in welldoing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; [8] but unto those who are contentious, and do not obey the truth but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, [9] tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man who doeth evil, upon the Jew first and also upon the Gentile; [10] but glory, honor and peace to every man who worketh good, to the Jew first and also to the Gentile.
*What does he say about those who worketh good?
*what does he say about those who do not OBEY the truth but OBEY unrightousness???
      Romans 2:12-14 KJ21
For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law. [13] (For it is not the hearers of the law who are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. [14] For when the Gentiles, who have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, they, not having the law, are a law unto themselves,
What’s that? The doers of the law will be justified???
      ---------
      Romans 6:1-16 KJ21
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? [2] God forbid! How shall we, who are dead to sin, live any longer therein? [3] Know ye not that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? [4] Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. [5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, so we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, [6] knowing this: that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. [7] For he that is dead is freed from sin. [8] Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, [9] knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dieth no more; death no more hath dominion over Him. [10] For in that He died, He died unto sin once; but in that He liveth, He liveth unto God. [11] Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. [12] Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. [13] Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but yield yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. [14] For sin shall not have dominion over you, for ye are not under the law, but under grace. [15] What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid! [16] Know ye not that to whomever ye yield yourselves as servants to obey, his servants ye become whom ye obey, whether of sin which leads unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
      Again OBEDIENCE to CHRIST
      Romans 6:21-22 KJ21
What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. [22] But now, being made free from sin and having become servants of God, ye have your fruit unto holiness and the end, everlasting life.

How about the criminal who was crucified, along with Jesus in Luke 23:40-43? He got saved right? He got saved because of God's grace through his faith not by his works. Good works is the result of salvation. Read Ephesians 2:8-9 as well you'll see on that verse that, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - NOT BY WORKS, so that no one can boast." Also in Isaiah 64:6 stated that "All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our RIGHTEOUS ACTS are like FILTHY RAGS; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away." So we will see here that our good works are just filthy rags before God. You will only be saved through faith then good works will follow as a result of your salvation.
    Luke 23:40-43
-But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."
Jesus answered him, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise."

@@mole215 I agree, God's grace is undeserved, unmerited, unearned favour this is something we cannot earn through our good works, it is freely given by God to those who believe. Justification through faith alone in Christ alone is biblical, I don't see the reason why the title of the video says that protestant's doctrine of salvation is unbiblical, they were saying faith alone is not enough to be justified they were saying that faith plus works is the way for us to be justified but the Scriptures says a different thing it is stated throughout the Bible that we are justified through faith alone in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:28, Romans 5:1, Habakkuk 2:4, Galatians 2:21, Galatians 2:16). In the verse he stated Romans 2:7 it sets up a contrast between those who are changed by God’s grace and live for Him and those who reject His salvation and truth (verse 8), In Romans 2:7, those who “by persisting in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality” are those who have genuinely trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation, by grace through faith. And in James 2:14-26 sometimes taken out of context in an attempt to create a works-based system of righteousness, but that is contrary to many other passages of Scripture. James is not saying that our works make us righteous before God but that real saving faith is demonstrated by good works. Works are not the cause of salvation; works are the evidence of salvation. Faith in Christ always results in good works. The person who claims to be a Christian but lives in willful disobedience to Christ has a false or dead faith and is not saved. It is clear that the Scriptures don't support justification by works but through faith alone in Christ Jesus, works are evidence not the cause of our justification.

@@HenriettaMRiley Henrietta, thanks for your response but I am not discrediting the Catholic Church and neither should you. We have the New Testament of the Bible thanks to the Catholic Church. The Catholics were spreading the Gospel throughout the world for centuries before Protestants ever existed. Catholics worked endless hours hand-writing the Bible and translating the Bible. Are there corrupt Catholics? Yes. Has the Catholic church gone through periods of corruption? Of course they have. The Catholic Church has been around for 2,000 years and led by imperfect men of flesh and blood. There's also much corruption in the thousands of different Protestant denominations. Why? Because the Protestant churches are also led by imperfect men and women of flesh and blood. The Catholic Church is the church that Jesus founded through the Apostle Peter and is filled with traditions that were practiced by the people that actually knew our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Again, that Bible that you read and that you use as a guide for your faith and knowledge of God, was assembled from many, many religious writings that were considered holy during the early years. The Catholic Church, solely had the task of picking and choosing the books that ended up in your Bible. Martin Luther just removed a few that he didn't like but the ones that remained were still the ones that the Catholic Church picked in the first place. Even though Martin Luther was far removed from Jesus by 1,500 years, he thought he knew better than his predecessors that were chronologically closer to Jesus. I'm not putting down Martin Luther. There was corruption in the Catholic Church during his time and he did what he felt he needed to do.

@@charis128 Stop... I see this so often.... Even protestants do this, and they're doing this with the rapture. Here's another thing that you are butchering with this passage..... READ THE CONTEXT.
THREE verses later, he explains what he means by " In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."
"You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless[a]? 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”[b] and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone."
Abraham was doing GOD'S will. If we do God's will, we will get greater "rewards"... that's the idea, not according to what man defines as good or bad. The Bible says what is good and what is bad, but it doesn't command us to do the good, it just tells us not to do the bad and to have faith. Otherwise, it would just being giving us half instructions. Your interpretation to the road to salvation: do deeds... uhh ok what deeds?
If we say "I believe in God" but turn around and DECIDE to sin, the salvation is voided. Contrarily, if we say "I believe in God" and preach the gospel as so, you are putting into action what you preach, and doing God's will. But even so, REFRAINING from sin is the same as a "deed" in this context, because he's referring to practicing what you believe. If you say you have faith, then you must follow up that statement with your actions by not sinning because the God you believe in says not to. If you sin willingly, either 1. You doubt his existence 2. You are okay with sin 3. You are just taking advantage of his grace etc... BUT EVEN THEN, HE STILL FORGIVES YOU... but you HAVE TO REPENT and not do it again by figuratively cutting off the hand that causes you to sin.
James is saying to keep your word and not be a hypocrite. The demons believe in God... but their deeds are nefarious. James' definition of a deed is an action or the lack of action. So your salvation is based off of faith (John 3:16) and actions or inaction, depending on if they go against God's law.
Question 1: How many good deeds must you complete to attain salvation? 1? 7?
Question 2: If there is a paraplegic man born blind and dumb who literally cannot do anything but believe in God. Is he condemned because he cannot do any "works"? Or is he saved because God has MERCY and GRACE?
Catholicism's God is different from what the Bible preaches plain and simple. It's not a religion issue, it's man not having a relationship with God. You need to repent and pray directly to God and read your bible.

@@antrodaze910i think many protestants misunderstood whats the difference between salvation and justification. Salvation can be possible for us only by the Grace of our Father. All christians believe it included catholic. We are all saved by the Grace. BUT, to be saved you need to be justified first. Catholic teaches that justification isnt a single proses but an on going-until-death process. In that process, we are DAILY justified by our FAITH which is CONFESSED and SHOWN through our deed. We have to work on our salvation (Phil 2:12-13, James 2:14-16). So your question on how many good deeds to be justified? The answer isnt a quantity matter but the quality matter. You "do" good as long as you have faith because only by that you have faith! How about the blind? Do you even say that blind people cant do good? I dont know how's that question even logical.
By the end of time, in the judgement day, we are all JUDGED according to our DEEDS (Rev 20:12). Then now, how come u say our deed isnt important? If it only takes "faith" why wouldt scripture says that at the judgement all who "believe" in jesus will directly go to heaven? Why jesus even say not those who call upon Me, Lord, lord but those who DO the will of My Father? 😉

If you are a person with special needs and has no chance to do good actions that would guarantee your definition of everlasting life, will God save you?
The thief whom Jesus Christ promised paradise did not even have a single chance to work because He died like Him. If we are going to look at works as our way to be saved and not the grace of God portrayed through dying of the cross, we would make Jesus Christ a liar and unfair to all of us.
God is not like that. He is the God of justice so He gave His only begotten Son to serve that.
Who are you to think that your works can match what Christ did on the cross? You, His creation can fill what He did on that cross? No amount of good works or action can add to the grace He gave. Such boastfulness to think that our works are everything! They are nothing!
Are we going to do good work?
A man who loves and has faith is justified by His works. A man moved by the Holy Spirit does not look at work as a requirement to everlasting life, but a privilege to do good because he received grace.
Let us change our mindset of work here. They are nothing compared to His dying on the cross. Our good actions here on earth will not earn us an everlasting life. They will testify of God's goodness to us. They will testify to other people that God is a good God because they see that in your works.

How can you go from saying, "Jesus didn't give us the Bible, He gave us the Church" to using Scripture to establish the Church's authority? The whole point of the video is about how Protestants go against Scripture. And yes, the Church has authority. That's a big part of it's purpose. But, that doesn't mean it has authority over God's Word. And when the Church judges these conflicts, are they not to use Scripture to do so? It seems you are saying we should view Scripture through the lense of the Church as opposed to the Church through the lense of Scripture.
How can we have consistency if we have to rely on humans when humans disagree with each other and even change their own minds quite often? Does the Gospel change? What about if one pope disagrees with his predecessor or successor?

If the scripture was complete and full then you could give it to any group of two or more people anywhere in space or time and allow them to use it to sort things out and with a fair reading you'd expect the same result every time.
If it's not full and complete and requires constant human oversight and adjustment and amendment then it's not worth basing a religion on.

@@mattallred Nope! Humans are sinners and no one follows Scripture perfectly. We follow Scripture to varying degrees and some don't attempt to do so at all. Although personal Bible study is important, I agree that it's important to also study in community with others. Two people in isolation would not benefit from being in a larger group of mature and growing believers who would help them understand Scripture better and avoid heresy. This is why we have preachers and teachers and are commanded to meet together. (They could obviously only meet with each other.) But, we all have some heretical beliefs, because at best we are fallen creatures corrupted by sin studying with other maturing fallen creatures corrupted by sin. We will not achieve perfection on this earth. It is we who need adjustment, not Scripture.
And of course, some interpretation is necessary. It was written thousands of years ago over the course hundreds or thousands of years, in an entirely different culture and translated from a different language. We all have cultural lenses and don't even always recognize when we are looking through them. We can learn a lot from personal Bible study, but this is one of the reasons small group settings and larger corporate gatherings are so important. Others can show us our errors and provide insights they have gleaned that any individual may not pick up in personal study.

Cuz that's what I observed on most protestants, they think they can do whatever they want after professing that Jesus is their Lord and personal Savior. Remember, no filth can enter heaven. Those sinners whom Jesus saved in His time were cleansed by Him personally, afterwards they continued to live a Holy life. Same with the thief on the cross who believed Jesus, if he's given the chance to escape from the cross, I'm sure he'll change his ways and live a holy life, not to sin and follow Jesus heartily. Hm, excuse me? Read James 2 again... It obviously speaks about the quality of the faith not salvation by works. If the faith you have doesn't move you to do good deeds you don't have faith. You profess to have faith but don't live as Christian. That's what James is saying, the difference between living faith vs dead faith. Read the whole chapter.
We can test Abraham faith by his works when he offered Isaac at the altar, but it was not this action that saved him, it was his faith.
You can't buy your salvation. You can't make God save you.
    Romans 3:22
22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood-to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. 28 For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, 30 since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. 31 Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.
    Ephesians 2
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
    The words speak by themselves.
There is absolutely nothing you can to be more saved or less. You can be rewarded more or less but you are saved if you have true faith in Christ.
Also, the Roman Catholic Church is only dated to a few hundreds of years after Christ.

Sorry to burst the Catholic bubble, but there are many, many errors in the Catholic faith. There are many things the book of Catechisms tells people they should do things that are never mentioned in actual scripture. I am a former Catholic and my conscience was seared because there is no truth in Catholicism. The more I read the Bible, the less Catholic I became. Your man-made traditions will not save you, not Mary or any saints. Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven and the Father.

Why would you use the bible as your rule of faith that this church with so many errors as you describe which preserved the Holy Scriptures by laboriously hand coping them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press for the rest of the world to enjoy? Only so pure a lamb can save the sins of the many. If works can save, then why was Jesus slain? You are equating Jesus' sacrifice to the cross with your "sowing"? Who are you anyway? 😂 You? Us? No matter how hard we try, no amount of work can match the mercy and grace of God.
We work because we were given grace and not because it is what will save us.

@kim burley I agree that one must be born again and then good works will follow, that is exactly what I tried to explain in my comment, that obedience to God's word is something that comes after salvation (regeneration, i.e. being born again) and that only happens through the Spirit of God. I understand the roman catholic view on this and fully disagree with them. The bible says we will be judged according to our works, but to say you are saved by your works is missing it completely, so amen to your comment, I agree!

@Crusader of the Holy Grail 1. I fully agree with the "alone " not being in scripture at this verse. You may notice though that BY GRACE is mentioned twice for emphasis .
      2. Either way, law or works, has to be taken as something not related to the gift as neither support a free gift.
3.I disagree that salvation is not a one time event.
Roman 11:28 Regarding the gospel, they are enemies on your account; but regarding election, they are loved on account of the patriarchs. 29 For God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable. 30 Just as you who formerly disobeyed God have now received mercy through their disobedience,…
Salvation is by gift of God and it is a one time event but works of righteousness is ongoing .1 Cor 6:11 is all past tense and leads one to have confidence that regardless of how imperfect we are we are still in Christ.

He took out of context Romans 2:6-7 (doing good works for eternal life)
    Because the answer is in
Romans 3:21-28 (we are justified by faith in Christ apart from works of the law.)
This man nor anybody else has persisted in doing good works under the law in order to obtain eternal life. Only Jesus Christ has done the law perfectly. Not even Mary who called Jesus her Savior and brought a sacrifice to the altar for her sins.
Faith in Christ alone, without works and you will be saved.
The born again Christian now does the good works out of love for Christ that were preordained. We love Him because He first loved us. Our good works don't save us. That's why Abraham was considered righteous at the point he believed God. His works were a result of his believing in God.

Sounds good but does it line up with scripture? Jesus and the apostles prayed to God , and it seems everyone in the bible prayed to God , so along comes the Catholic church and it says you can pray to the saints ,Mary, or angels to pass on your requests to God? The statement you made is accurate in praying for one another as we are alive. praying to the dead is not kosher. The saints are dead and buried and waiting in the grave for the resurrection but their spirits are placed in the heavenly realm with Jesus.

    • @danmerland493
      @danmerland493 3 роки тому +1

@@brucewmclaughlin9072 Yes it lines up with scripture.
First lets address that the saints are alive and in heaven.
*John 11: 25* Jesus said unto her, “I am the resurrection and the Life. He that believeth in Me, though he were dead, *yet shall he live;*
Those that believe and follow Christ do not die.
*Revelations 9-10* When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”
Not only are saints alive but they can communicate with God directly in heaven.
Do these saints in heaven pray to God? Yes, and they even pray for us on earth.
*Revelation 7: 9-12* After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: “Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!”
The Saints will even do Priestly duties at the alter of God in heaven.
*Revelation 7: 13-17* Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes-who are they, and where did they come from?” I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, *“they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple*; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. ‘Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
*Revelation 8: 3-4* Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and *stood at the altar* (same alter the martyrs are doing priestly duties). *He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people, on the golden altar in front of the throne.* The smoke of the incense, *together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand.* (hey remember when you said the Catholic Church *made up* "angels passing on your requests to God"?)
So here we have Saints worshiping God at the alter, performing priestly duties, giving incense and prayers for God's people (which includes people on earth) an angel comes takes incense and these prayers to God.
Now to address another inevitable question from protestants "well how can the saints see us" which is funny because they are literally in communion with God why wouldn't they be able to, but I'll give you Biblical evidence.
Revelation 18 is all about John seeing the destruction of Babylon, John is in heaven, how can he see what is on earth if creatures in heaven can not see earth? This is clear evidence creatures in heaven can see earth. I showed you John a creature seeing earth from heaven can you give me any Biblical evidence that creatures in heaven can't see earth?
Also to address another point I know will be brought up "even if the saints can hear our prayers and even see us they would have to be omnipotent to do so, it's not possible for Mary to hear each person asking her to pray to God for them." The problem is believing this is omnipotent when it is not even close, it's disrespectful to God's true omnipotence. Does the devil tempt people all over the world all at the same time, even to the point people destroy themselves spiritually mentally and physically? Yes and this is way more powerful than hearing requests and praying to God. So is the devil omnipotent? Obviously not.
*Revelation 5:13* Then I heard *every creature* in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!"
John can hear not just humans but every creature whether it was on earth, sea, heaven or underground? Not only that but "all that is in them". So that must mean John is omnipotent right? Here we have a human, not even a saint yet in heaven and he can hear all these things that go way beyond what apostolic Churches say saints can do.
tl;dr Saints don't die, they can even communicate with the Lord in heaven. Saints perform priestly duties, worship God and give prayers of God's people to an angel to bring to God. Revelations shows John can see earth from heaven and even can hear every single creature at the same time.
What objections do you have now against communion of Saints or any Catholic teachings for that matter?

    • @brucewmclaughlin9072
      @brucewmclaughlin9072 3 роки тому

@@danmerland493 Not once have I ever said that saints who die and are buried are dead in heaven. On earth they are in the grave waiting for resurrection but according to Eph 2: they are alive in the heavenly realm with Jesus.
You make an interesting point but you do not show any evidence that it is acceptable to pray to saints, Mary, or anyone other than God. Old and new testaments do not have prayers to anyone but God but the Catholic church does?
You also bring up Revelation which is prophetic in nature and it is not happening yet but it will happen soon. No evidence that the saints who are serving God have any influence , ears to hear or lips to speak that God would hear from someone on earth via a saint?
That is human reasoning but not scriptural. If there is no reference that saints or anyone needs a person ,dead in the grave alive in heaven ,as a go between to get God's ear for requests , then maybe you should accept that this is a man made issue .
I was listening to a non Catholic believer talk about the gospel and he said" We believe almost everything the catholic church does" That is true and there are a couple doctrines that just do not line up with scripture .but the rest do.
Try making bread with no yeast or baking powder / baking soda. It just does not rise. A little bit of yeast makes a huge difference and so does a little bit of mans doctrine plugged into the scriptures and taught in the church as truth.
Please show us in scripture where we are to pray to someone to convey our prayers to God?
