One year ago we were on 8in-18in depending on the area. This year we have zero ice yet. Your videos are both getting me through it and makes me want to ice fish.
Right! We are usually driving out first of the year and crazy thing is I just checked this lake after all the warm weather and rain we got and found it back to open water today! What a crazy year. Never seen anything like this.
Ya I missed them too. This summer got busy and I went MIA. River was really low and few times I went out wasn't anything going on. Did get into some largemouth in the boat but mainly was just chilling with the family. Next summer I'll make sure to not slack. But yes ice fishing is here and new content is on the rise! Enjoy and take care. Merry Xmas.
Looks like you could skate on the lake. Up in Northern Ontario we have been needing some cold weather to get fishing on Superior. When are you heading over to the big pond?
I saw people out skating on it. I hit the pond last week before we had all the rain, most my lakes opened up now so ill have to hit the bays of the pond until we get ice again. Going try to get back up there this weekend if they are letting people out.
Bryan, does your wife ever go fishing with you? I loved the video of you taking your kids out, super cute! Would love to see another family outing at some point this winter! Love your content, when the lakes harden up on the south side of Minnesota I'll be out there as soon as I can!
Thanks! She does go summer fishing with me but not a big fan of sitting on the ice cold. Leaves that to me. Taking the kids out last year was a fun video, I will get them out again this year for sure. Maybe even a family video, never know ;)
That certainly was weird. Looks like a bowfin with no spot? Maybe a female? We can’t wait for decent hard water here on Lake Simcoe, Ontario. Hoping it freezes half decently this year so I can get some decent footage. Hope you get some good hard water fishing in too this year. 🤞🏻😃🍀
If it's at least 2-3in, you should be ok. If you fall through, eh, it sucks, but for the first 10-15 minutes, you have so much adrenaline running through your body you don't even feel cold. Just wait until there's at least 8-12 for snowmobiles or trucks
4" is considered "safe" ice so anything that thick or more is good. You didnt see in this video but before I filmed I checked the ice all the way out to where I was by drilling a hole and then walking so far and checking again to make sure im stillvgood.
That is a bowfin. The fish from last year Was Not a bowfin it had totally different marking. My friends and I are looking at the still shots. I took of it In the video it has vertical stripes like a A white bass and a body shaped like a drum
Do you have any tips on finding spots without a depth chart? Most of the lakes near me don't get that deep (14feet max) some of the lakes I fish have weeeds everywhere some is mostly bare bottom. I don't ever have much luck finding spots with fish. I've bought a camera and a fish finder but still am struggling. I summer fish ALOT and never have issues finding fish but on the ice I am lost.
So i usderstand the dead stick live bait and then the rattling. Or flashing. I think fish rect better to slower chunky bait. Moving. Or maybe with a rattle with bait. But i think if you could set soenthing light enough to let the bait stay alive
I usually fish shallow water all ice season and amazing how many panfish are up shallow all year long. As long as there is weeds there will be there ;)
@@senoutside Deep basin are probably best for crappie as they are schooled up and can get into them. When I see them on camera shallow, they usually are just solo.
Bow fin are so fun to catch on frogs and chatter baits in the summer they bend hooks a fight hella hard so underrated to catch
Oh man they are so aggressive in the summer! They completely destroy my buzzbaits!
I catch em on fish heads.

That's crazy to think about - we've had ice here for almost a month where I live
@tom.northshore it is. In 21/22 and 22/23 we had great ice. Nothing now.
Right! We are usually driving out first of the year and crazy thing is I just checked this lake after all the warm weather and rain we got and found it back to open water today! What a crazy year. Never seen anything like this.
@BryanProkuski ice is growing slowly now. Hopefully be on ice soon.
Miss your videos all summer long. Happy to see some new content!

I miss your videos glad to see the underwater videos back
I was quiet this summer but yes the underwater videos are BACK!
Nice! What camera do u use the footage looks good?
Thanks! Underwater camera is the Marcum Pursuit HD.
I've caught 1 bowfin through the ice. They get crazy colors in the winter. Bright green fins. I've seen a few others caught as well
I'll be out on Thursday ! Great to see what it looks like outside ...
Good luck, be safe and I hope you get into them!
I love your videos, I hope you catch a lot of fish this winter
Thanks! I hope I do too.
That camera view is AMAZING!!! Man those Bowfin look nice!
Thanks man! It's a cool look to ice fishing for sure and ya those bowfin were nice.
@@BryanProkuski Great deal, subbed!!

@@BryanProkuski I skated on superior a few years ago and the ice was crystal clear. Get some more pike! Have a good one!
Great video! I have caught both fish down here in southeast Wisconsin, through the ice. Have a merry Christmas.
Thanks Cory! That is cool, never seen one caught ice fishing. Merry Christmas to you as well.

1:58 when checking spot there's a pike in weeds your literally on top of em
Thanks for mentioning that. I thought the same thing when I was editing the video, looked like a pike tail! Crazy.
Nice bull head! Use to catch a bunch as a kid in central MN. Don’t see them anymore.
Nice! I only have seen them a few time. Pretty big compared to the ones I remember as a kid.
if you quit moving the spoon at 9:00 maybe you could’ve given the pike a chance to eat it 😅 you literally dodged his strike twice
Bryan hey I wish i lived somewhere where I could ice fish. Just not cold enough here in middle Tennessee but I can watch you.
Yes you can and watching me is less cold for you too lol.
That bullhead is some good eating! Should have done a catch and cook with em yum
lol... I'm good
I like your videos, but you must like to sharpen auger blades as hitting the ice with em dulls them quick
Good to know. Thanks!
Here is Saskatchewan we catch dogfish in the winter but at night with glow hooks
My grandpa has speared and caught some bowfin In the winter but I catch them like crazy in the summer
That is crazy! I have caught them in the summer too. Super Aggressive fish. I dont ever see them in winter or hear of people catching them.
@@BryanProkuski yea we have them swim threw the hole pretty often but they aren’t very aggressive
That certainly was weird.

Catch Bowfin through the ice all the time in NY off Lake Ontario
Pretty cool. Bet it's a fun fight.
Good looking bowfin
Agreed!
It is most certainly a dogfish (bowfin), only the males have the spot on their tail fin. The fish in last years video was also a bowfin.
I have seen the spot before but didn't know that was a male thing. Thanks for the tip.
Did you break the new rod curse?
question from a mild temperature area guy. How do you know if the ice is strong enough or not?

Omg 😳 lol fun to catch . prehistoric fish
Right! I learned this fish can stay out of water for couple days. Crazy!
Nice bowfin!
Yes it was!
@@BryanProkuskiI love your videos! :)
@@lucasoutdoors725 Thanks Lucas!
That’s exciting now
Yes it was!
Those first few fish looked like Ling
I have had others say that too. They do look like them but we dont have them around here so its a bowfin aka dogfish.
Cluch video. I can't wait for more ice.what are the chances I could go fishing with you? We can hit my pounds 😎
Thanks man! Were you located.
Apply valley probably an hr or less around where u fish.
NICE VIDEOS.KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! M.O'B
Thanks!

I caught a dogfish (bowfin) early spring, i caught in about 6" of water it was wild.
Nice! I have caught them shallow too in summer, they are wild! Fight hard.
Cool! We call Burbot “Dogfish”. LOL! 🤣
Just about to buy one would you recommend the pursuit hd l
If you haven't bought it already, yes I would recommend it for sure. Best picture quality for the price and it records.
What state?
Minnesota
What do you do with the minnow tails?
Just toss them down the hole when done fishing but if I run out of minnows I would use them as bait.
So i usderstand the dead stick live bait and then the rattling. Or flashing. I think fish rect better to slower chunky bait. Moving. Or maybe with a rattle with bait. But i think if you could set soenthing light enough to let the bait stay alive

One bullhead is better than no fish and it would be very good fried nice and crispy.
lol...Agreed! Never ate them before but what doesn't taste good fried and crispy :)
that was a brown bullhead at 7:33
Really surprised to see that crappie in shallow this time of year!
I usually fish shallow water all ice season and amazing how many panfish are up shallow all year long. As long as there is weeds there will be there ;)
Come to think of it I have never fished crappie shallow this time of year, always hit the deep basins.
@@senoutside Deep basin are probably best for crappie as they are schooled up and can get into them. When I see them on camera shallow, they usually are just solo.
Bowfin do bite during winter. They are mean and they have teeth so don't put your hand in there.
I have caught them in the summer and saw the teeth. Aggressive as heck, they destroy my buzz baits!
Doggie!!
😮
Bowfin
Looks like turtle
And use dead bait for bowfin just like catfish
It’s not Rare
In winter for me they are. Never heard of one caught
Fish do have ears inside their head behind their eyes, they can hear you talking..... STOP.
First
Second
Lol i love your videos!
@@VoidZ_7X Thanks. Glad you enjoy them.
Your welcome
Did you break the new rod curse?
Technically no, Need one of them pike to come topside on it!
