From the Wiki : During Percy's resurrection ritual in "Passed Through Fire", Taliesin was watching from another room. After the ritual succeeded, Matt revealed that Taliesin was the one who ultimately decided if Percy would want to come back, depending on the actions of Vox Machina and their players during the ritual. Taliesin stated later that if the group's offerings during the ritual had been religion-based, Percy probably would have declined to return from death.
Yeah, I know how hard it would have been to say goodbye to a character like that, but story-wise, it would have been a great literary moment. To have Percy die in the fight against his nemesis, right before she was killed so he died not knowing if he succeeded or not would have been much more impactful, imo. I kinda wish he had chosen not to come back for that reason alone. It just felt right for that to be how he went out.
@@s.g.devries8557 Meh. It would've given Percy an easy out. As it is, he has to see what his inventions are doing to the world and take up the responsibility to stop or at least slow them down.
I really like how Percy signed off 'Percy of Vox Machina' in the letter instead of his usual long title - he wanted to them to know that at the end he considers being part of that group his greatest heritage.
Literally teared up at that. You can tell Liam caught that as well. That in the end the only title that mattered to him was the one that showed he was part of their group, of that family. This show has made me cry more in 5 episodes then many series do in their entire span. I even cried at Tiberius for Pete's sake.... The way they buried him and honored who he was broke me, regardless of the reality of what happened. Role play truly can be a beautiful thing.
Lord Percival Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski De Rolo III of the first house of Whitestone signing his farewell letter simply as "Percival of Vox Machina" is such a beautiful moment that doesn't get the attention it deserves.
Percy died with a look of peace on his face because, while he has failed to deliver the final blow himself, he was happy that he'd found a family that would finish it for him.
I accidentally burst out laughing around the 23 minute mark because I imagined a barrel with in tiiiiiny letters "Percival Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III" written on it. I'm so sorry Percy but that is a great visual.
Cody Miller he was 69 when it started they’ve been travelling for about a year now making him 70 then ad another year because of when they take a break whilst tery is in the party and that’s 71 assuming it passed his birthday both times
1:12:40 is a great moment because Laura is an amazing ACTOR! She is well aware of her performance. "It's yours." is simple but lovely. It's a callback to when she refused to give her heart to the tree elf in the feywild who asked for her heart where she responded "It's someone elses." Laura trusts the Critters enough to piece those two lines together without explaining anything and it really comes across. It's her ability to immerse herself in her character and her faith in the audience to understand her feelings with a simple phrase that really shines through.
in normal D&D pike would cast the spell and automatically succeed. in mercer's D&D they have to do this ritual to succeed. to the people who complains about how easy it was.. in the original format is alot easier
lucas maglio I loved how Matt was literally leaving it up to Tallesin. It wasn't easy, Tallesin didn't want to play Percy again, he was ready for another character I heard. So it wasn't easy, you're right.
Oh raising the dc... It would make sense. Like each time they have to basically give a new excuse for the raven queen to reconsider ferrying the soul onward.
Rabbitfighter09 Yeah watched this episode just now, I thought it was hillarious and just hoped that matt was going to escape that trap he set for himself haha.
There are little towers you can make for dice to help with rolling them into a little box. They roll from a small tower and tumble into a small wooden box. Quite handy for when you don't want to worry about cocking the dice or getting them on the floor.
Yeah, this episode was really hard to watch, everything was fighting tears for like 2 hours, then they read the letter, and then another letter. Just wanted to bawl like a baby the whole time.
"It'll be a hard night, but you both have to sleep. Drink this, and we will attempt to remedy this when we wake. The best thing you can do for your friend now is sleep, so do that. Save your tears for later." That may be my favorite Grog quote.

Homie should FINISH his dang book... I don't hold him being in this stuff against him - using a few hours to unwind in a single night is fine. But it's been so long since we've gotten anything... But, yeah, that letter made me happy. He writes so well, and hearing anything he's written is so welcome.
@@pyrosianheir to be fair, he's written himself into a corner. IMO there are too many threads to naturally conclude in only one more book. not to mention it's the last in the trilogy, so if he doesnt get it PITCH fucking perfect and stick the landing, it'll cast shade on all the others.
@@KoljaWolfi Because he said it was a trilogy and said that it was already complete. He wrote the first two books with the third already in mind, then I guess he didn't like the third book and must rewrite it. We'll see it at some point, maybe.
1:11:50 Look at sam. Honestly this is saying something. This is saying that both Scanlan and Sam actually care. You know, its easy to be funny when you don't really care and are here just for the fun of it. Sam was very good at conveying that, to the point that it was easy to think him approaching this as just some game and not really having attachment to anyone. But seeing him actually tear up... all of his humour, all of his jokes are actually heroic attempts to bring levity to the distraught team. And that's an impressive act and an sacrifice.
This reflects my sentiments exactly. Sam and Travis so often act like they're just there for fun. They're the ones who dick around while their friends take the story seriously, and it's never particularly out of character. It just makes it all the more effective when you notice the rare times that it's clear-they fucking care about this story and these characters.
Some body has to be the anchor in bad things, Grog was it! Vax was too EMO, and Scanlan was just stunned and did not know what to do. And the women were wreaks, so Grog takes the lead.
+Tony_B well, I mean strictly speaking Aleppo Isn't, seeing as he only exists in a fictitious reality created by Matt and populated by the rest of the group. not sure what you were going for there
Looking at that empty chair where Taliesin normally sits, I can't help but picture him sitting across the room listening to them play, scribbling out Molly's stats. 🤣
So I was relistening to Percy's Spotify playlist before this episode, and it includes a song called Pink Summer. The chorus of the song goes: "And maybe this will kill us And maybe this will kill us What a way to die What a way to die It's not how much you love It's how much you are loved It's how much you are loved" Goddamn does that resonate after this episode.
Love Travis' little smirk as soon as Matt asks what Vex has to bring to the ritual. Laura must have told him what she was going to confess because you can tell he already knows where she's going.
What honestly kills me, in the best of ways, about Vex's addition to Percy's ritual, was that last little line. "I should have told you. It's yours." Just, thinking back to her encounter with Saundor in The Echo Tree when he asks for her heart. "My heart is someone else's." Tears.
The scene at 1:40:28 is a perfect example of why Sam Riegel is one of the greatest improv artists of all time. The conversation so far had been so dramatic and serious, and he finds the absolute perfect moment to break the tension. I've rewatched it probably a dozen times, and I still can't believe what I'm watching. The way he flows through the scene, guiding the mood of the moment -- from his serious interjection rescuing Percy from his uncomfortable sigh, to the hilariously deadpan accusation toward the rest of the group of "wanting to save the scroll for something else", to the heartwarming hug, to finally turning the whole bit around and making himself the butt of the joke by revealing that it was all a ploy to get his hands on a gun (which is something he established about Scanlan like 40 episodes prior). It's simply masterful. Everyone else in the show is funny from time to time, but Sam/Scanlan is just transcendent.
I specifically came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed that scene. He was phenomenal and if Percy's death shows up in the show, I hope they keep that line!
To be fair, they kinda deserved being called out for not using the gate scroll. I get it, it's super valuable, but from a character perspective, Keyleth and vex especially, given Keyleth just watched her best friend die and Vex lost the man she loved, both of them are bawling their eyes out, talking about how much of a tragedy this is and how we they are, but when they could literally use the gate scroll to just bamf pike right over to them, all of the sudden they're like, "well it's not that sad". Scanlan on the other hand? He's just like, "hey, we can totally use this to save our friend and I honestly think we should". He's a real one.
That really strikes a chord here... I left home to another country cuz my family rejected me, make a nice living and never looked back. I sometimes go back to my homecountry for bussiness, take some days off to visit the nice beaches but never to my hometown or family
1:41:22 "Laughter! Laughter's back!" And boy oh boy, we all needed that. Thank goodness for Sam Riegel. (and all the others, ofc, but laughter is such a precious thing, especially when it's so cathartic!)
I can just imagine Pike with her Monstah gauntlets just grabbing a solid block of stone twice her size while everyone else is in shock as a tiny cute woman screams while running "IMMA MONSTAH"
@First Last MAtt always says things like make perception check [roll#3] there appears to be no trap (boom - they step on something that collapse the floor) make insight check [roll#7] he appears to be fine (boom- he stabs you in the back) someone walks in - he apperas to be seeker Asum (boom he is a dragon in disguise) if you pay attention there is a lot of things he says in certain way when he wants them to think something but leaves a hint it maybe isnt 100% the case
@First Last It's just the way Matt describes the world based upon their rolls. Even if their character can't know something because of a poor roll, he still tends to give a hint to the player that all is less then well. Unless it's too low, in which case they are completely oblivious.
@@pawelsku He doesn't just stuff like that when there is something wrong, he often says it when no one has made a check yet, or when someone has made a check but they just couldn't tell. Often times what seems to be, is actually what is.
That’s how that spell works in the game, the soul has to be willing to be brought back from the dead so it would make sense Taliesin decide if he wants to come back from the dead or roll for a new character.
@@katelynnitti3009 He was in the same building waiting if they do enough to bring him back or not. He talked about it i think in the wrap-up. If they tried to involve any type of deity, he would refuse to return.
Laura Bailey is so good at being Vex. She's such a good actress. I have an admiration-crush on her. Is that a thing? Now it is. Her speech to Percy was so, so good.
Agreed, but I think they are all really talented. Laura's performance today though during the ritual was fantastic though. By far and away the highlight of the night. It just felt so real.
I third that she was flawless in her performance and man when that Nat twenty came out right after her performance it was like some sort of fate that says that both Percy and Vex belong together. Don't know if that would happen but fingers cross if it does.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
i was tearing up at vex's contribution to the ritual, then she rolled that fucking nat20 and i just started full on crying. that felt so raw and beautiful holy shit. taliesin's horrifying luck apparently applies to saving his life too. damn it percy.
@Astroblaze the Reality Traverser probably going to be vex, because trading his life is what caused her brother to become a paladin of the raven queen. did this death have any real impact in the grand scheme of things, other than vex confession? and that one they can build differently into the show.
I'm so new to this. I have been binging in a way that maybe isn't healthy. My point is, it hasn't taken me long to feel a very powerful sense of nostalgia for the animated series. I an not the guy that cries at movies and stuff, but I was a teary eyed wreck for almost every episode. I don't know if I could actually handle Percy's animated death and resurrection... But I still hope they do it.
It seems like it would be important to include cause not only does it poetic that the rest of the team finished his journey for him but it’s also we’re vex admits to have feelings for him
@@Stone7C1 I think it should be included, his death would be hard to ignore because it’s called back to multiple times in future episodes, some of which are important scenes, not only does it reveal Vex’ahlia’s feelings for him but it reveals that orthax is still a threat to him even after he dies, and it shows that he try’s to be a better person by forgiving people who wronged him, his death is a big part in his character development so it would be pretty hard to ignore narratively, plus I’m pretty sure they know that people would be upset if they didn’t include it because of how important it is for Percy and Vex’ahlia’s relationship
It's such a tiny thing, but 2:46:53 made me smile. Laura noticed that Marisha's dress had slipped down and whispered to Liam to let her know. He then writes a note on his phone, slides it over to her, and she takes a moment to fix it while Laura keeps the scene going and attention elsewhere. The genuine care this group has for each other is always so, _so_ lovely.
Oooh, I haven't yet gotten there (ugh, buffering), but I've seen that sort of chivalry in action at my college once -- the Halloween costume contest, one classmate's, um, female chest parts were hanging out a bit (not sure how much gets censored here), other classmate went to kinda hug her and pull her in close enough to whisper in her ear and then give her physical cover via the hug so she could adjust herself. If I hadn't been right next to them I wouldn't have even noticed (or heard him whisper to her). Always thought that was really nice of him, so it's good to run across another example of people finding ways to help each other out without calling the public's attention to the issue.
It has been said many times before - enough that many have grown tired of hearing it - but that is only because it is true: There is no stronger kind of magic, in this world or any other, than that which lies in true love's kiss.
It’s an exceptionally small detail but I couldn’t help but notice how Vex’ahlia’s ritual prop was a piece of the Condensed Whitestone… just as was Percy’s during the ritual to revive Vex in the Tomb of the Raven Queen. Coincidence? Probably, but serendipity can have a beauty all its own. Amazing performances across the board as per usual, but Laura’s deliveries from the climax last episode to the resolution this one crit me in the feels especially hard.
Jared and Scanlan's drug discussion is the funniest shit ever. "It is highly a illegal substance, but since the jail they would put you in is sat on by a giant red dragon, now would be the time to buy it."
1:11:00 Vex: “Percy, I don't know if you can hear me, but… that day in Syngorn was one of the best moments of my life, and not because of what you think. It wasn't because of my father or the title. It was because of Whitestone. It was because of you. You allowed me to be a part of the thing that you hold dearest, and I was so proud. But I don't want to be here if you're not. Whitestone still needs you, darling. I still need you here. (leans down and kisses him) I should have told you. It's yours.” Matt: “Make a persuasion role.” Laura: **huffs**. **Rolls...** Laura: *“NATURAL TWENTY!”* Travis/everyone: **GASP LOOKS** Matt: “I trust you” 😁😁😁😄😄😄 THIS IS SO PERFECT The fates align.
What I love about the end of the last episode and the beginning of this one is that they show who the true leaders of Vox Machina are. Grog and Scanlan may be idiots and the comic relief but when shit hit the fan they got dead serious and started planning all in character. Without them something would have gone incredibly wrong.
I think its more that they see the others need to grieve. Its like how when theres a Family loss, theres one family member who keeps it together to plan the funeral. Its the ultimate sacrifice and show of Love for the others.
This is me a big burly bearded guy. Crying in front of the screen as Vex declares her heart is Percy's. I am watching from 5 years in the future having studiously avoided spoilers. So I can enjoy the delightful tension of moments like this. Also, you guys are asses. I should have been in bed for two hours when the last episode ended. Now here I am commenting 3 and half hours late for bed smiling.
@@whimsicalityexpert9646 It helps that most of the D&D folks that I know are still rocking the old school pen and paper if at all. Plus I've been mostly in the modded Minecraft stuff on UA-cam. @@joejarvis2793 I know, right! I've been an emotional wreck for the last two days. As far as spoilers go, I'm mostly resigned to them, it's kinda like reading a book on WWII: you know the ending and who the major players are but it's still interesting to see the amazing story unfold. Same here as another grown bearded man hearing Keyleth, Vex and Pike trying not to break down. I'm sitting here 2022 trying my damndest to catch up knowing some things and still on the edge of my seat lol
Just a little part thats so nice about Vex's offering is how the music swells so perfectly as she says "its yours". It was so cinematic, and the music during that entire scene made it seem straight out of a movie. Such a lovely episode.
@@EnDSchultz1 I think their background staff were careful picking the right music for this episode. We knew from the last one that there was obviously going to be a big moment coming. But yes, Vex did a fantastic job in this episode.
They have used the same soundtrack for soo long they kinda memorized the crucial moments within it and try to sync up their important limes with them. Matt is the one that does this the most (pay attention at his long pauses and when they start and end) but it's far from being the only one who does it. They make it look soo effortless, that's what years of top tier voiceover working looks like.
I remember during his episode he was a bit akward withwhat he was trying to say. But since he had time to think he made a really eloquent letter with cool metaphors. I really enjoyed it.
They were doing some great role-playing right out the jump. "I want to cut the heart from your ribs - I want to cut out my own!" was an amazing line, especially for Liam's style of delivery. Very Vax. And it just got better throughout the episode, from everybody.
I love that when Marisha saw the ring Matt immediately cuts in "read the letter first!" and everyone looks at each other kind of shocked. I think everyone though "oooooh proposal??" XD
Jesus Christ, the way the resurrection spells have been altered in this make them way, WAY more tense and impactful and important. Just, the idea that you can fail them makes them matter. It also helps that Matt is an amazing storyteller and the players are all able to actually be their characters.
Ikr, it was a great move by Matt to homebrew resurrection that way giving them the chance that they can fail and increasing DC with each death (if the same character dies more than once). It means that death always means something even at high levels were resurrection can be pretty easily achieved with rules as written.
Zsnake Pliscon couldn't disagree more. I love these heavy RP sessions. To each their own. You should be happy this amazing show is good for both of us :)
Yeah, he's a good guy at heart, but I feel like characters will never really die...he gives them all a LOT of chances. Only character that ever really "died" was Tiberius Stormwind and that was more or less off screen. I don't think Matt has it in him to kill off characters that mean so much to his friends and audience. Not to say that's necessarily a bad thing, but I almost expect a deus ex machina every time there's a near death experience...
I wish more people would talk about Kynan. He’s quite possibly my favorite npc. His struggle is a real one and I love a good redemption character. All he wanted was to be acknowledged by his heroes. He was just taken advantage of by a very clever, and terrible woman.
Absolutely! Though the very real possibility of him being very dead, and thqt right quick, is just too harrowingly close to a missed opportunity for my nerves.
Yeah, honestly I feel for him more than most of the NPC‘s. Maybe that’s just my own bias of loving the underdog, who is judged before he ever got a chance to prove himself. But he was only trying to do the right thing, and the world spit at him for it.
yea there has been a metric tonn of angst in the past few eps, but people seem to like so that's fine and sam is always there to be a ray of sunshine and wisdom.
I fucking love how Matt makes resurrection a skill challenge rather than just a certain thing... makes bringing back people from actually dying a much more meaningful thing than "Cast the spell, use the component...done"
And yet people still complain that death has no consequence. They've been insanely lucky with their resurrection rolls, and so people think it's rigged. So, since then, Matt's made it even more difficult by increasing the base DC after every successful resurrection. Also immediately tweeting his res rolls so there's no dispute. And people still complain. You can never please some folks.
Watching this over a year after. I want to thank all the commenters that didn’t spoil the story. . . . . . . . . I thinks it’s amazing how Ashely was watching the last episode and immediately wanted to come in. Now here she is taking time out of her busy schedule just to bring him back. All of these guys are so invested and Matt dear god that man has single handedly gotten me to want to DM
Idk what you're talking about the comment section is a spoiler death trap. I just finished my first Christmas one off for my new DnD team and it went pretty well considering it was my first time at. You can learn a lot from how Matt DMs but truthfully the only way to really do it is to immerse yourself
Watching C1 after being caught up on C2 gave me a newfound appreciation for Ashley, when I started C2 she adds such a different dynamic as Yasha (and it took quite a bit before her character really started having any depth with her gone for so long) that I didn’t clearly understand why everyone was so excited whenever she would come back. But now seeing her play Pike it all makes sense! Sorry, I ever doubted you Ashley ;)
Kerr's letter to Keyleth is still one of my favorite moments of all time. There was so much love in that moment and, knowing the hell she (Marisha and Keyleth) was going through at the time, it makes it means so much more.
@@rebeccacarr5154 Marisha got a lot of hate around that time because a large part of the fanbase hated her character Keyleth and because some people are unable to detach the character from the actor and she was having a bad emotional state because of all the hate messages. The hate messages is also the reason why geek n sundry stopped showing the chat room in the stream on twitch, so that people wouldnt see the hateful comments live and fuel the fire. Marisha played Keyleth exceptionally, as an awkard character and not very charismatic, and people just hated her for it.
@@CountAylers I actually had that problem aswell. I was really strugling to like her untill i managed to realise that what Keyleth thinks and says and what Marisha thinks and says are 2 different things.
After watching this I can't help but think how cool it would be if Critical Role was made into an animated series since the people who are part of the cast are actual voice actors so all they would need are animators and writer to make the script. It could even be base on the story line from their D&D sessions, which would be just as awesome considering how enjoyable it is to watch on Geek & Sundry.
I would watch the shit out of that show. It should be a separate storyline from their stream one, though. Maybe after this stream ends, Geek & Sundry would do it?
It already has a good plot, needs a little bit of cleaning to straighten it up, a good animations team to convey the epic battle scenes, and probably some other VA collab for differents NPC, but Matt should stil definitely plays Gilmore and Victor.
Seeing this to catch up to season three and seeing how grog handles the passing of Percy is very important. Some are seeing him as heartless but let’s not forget Grog has been traveling in a herd who valued dying in combat. Grog is sad but acting how he normally would and him taking charge alongside scanlon is one of the most heartfelt things. He’s making sure his friends are taken care of as best as Grog can.
I know this is old as hell, but I'd like to take just a moment to marvel at how ridiculously photogenic Ashley Johnson is- she's looking worried, on Skype, filtered through an additional camera, compressed, and watched on a smartphone and she looks like she's at a photo shoot. 1:12:35 My favorite part of the whole episode. I had a hunch that Vex was talking about Percy when they went to fight Sondur in The Echo Tree episode when Vex said "My heart belongs to someone else." Really cool stuff, and I'm glad they all buy into this campaign so much. Makes it really fun to watch.

Spoiler-ish: Not sure how I haven't seen a comment yet, but considering how emotional this episode was, something about seeing/hearing Patrick Rothfuss read/send Keyleth a letter was... the emotional icing on the cake. I have no insight other than intuition, but I feel like Matt asked Patrick to do that as a special something for Marisha (favourite author maybe?). Seemed pretty impactful for both Marisha and Keyleth. That physical ring is a heck of a keepsake. Great episode.
I love that they have the CC script written in, like everyone should, As someone with slightly fucked up hearing I wish that they would put the character name that Matt specifically is speaking instead of just Matt.

Yeah, Matt says all that during the video.
@@s.g.devries8557 Meh. It would've given Percy an easy out. As it is, he has to see what his inventions are doing to the world and take up the responsibility to stop or at least slow them down.
That probably part is what he focused on. Pike used divine help and he still came back
I mean Pike did make a religion-based offering but ok
I really like how Percy signed off 'Percy of Vox Machina' in the letter instead of his usual long title - he wanted to them to know that at the end he considers being part of that group his greatest heritage.
Right there with you. Vox Machina was as much of a Family to him as any De Rolo, and that is just.. Beutiful.
😭
The intro credits with Pike helping Percy has more meaning now then ever.
Yeah, it's now the greatest foreshadowing, without anyone but the dice knowing beforehand.
StoneHammer I know right. I thought about that last week, too. So apt.
StoneHammer :') ...
I was thinking the exact same thing!
StoneHammer but the difference between than and then was always important.
I'm late to the party as a first time watcher but your comment hit the nail on the head for me.
The letter he wrote really proves that as well. Perciveal of Vox Machina.... The only title he cared for in the end.
I accidentally burst out laughing around the 23 minute mark because I imagined a barrel with in tiiiiiny letters "Percival Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III" written on it. I'm so sorry Percy but that is a great visual.
It may have, but it would be gone now, wouldn't it?😅
That's hilarious. But it probably only said Percival de Rolo, maybe with III at the end.
Oh my gosh I didn’t even think of that that’s hilarious
See that's why I had my Truename changed to 23#$&8sgrjkvg97(?;::;:&7
I too imagined matt saying his entire name in absolute sadness

Leo Li I think he’s like 71 here given in universe it’s been three years since the start of their adventures
Hes 69 turning 70 at the end of the campaign
Cody Miller he was 69 when it started they’ve been travelling for about a year now making him 70 then ad another year because of when they take a break whilst tery is in the party and that’s 71 assuming it passed his birthday both times
Niiiiice
1:12:40 is a great moment because Laura is an amazing ACTOR! She is well aware of her performance. "It's yours." is simple but lovely. It's a callback to when she refused to give her heart to the tree elf in the feywild who asked for her heart where she responded "It's someone elses." Laura trusts the Critters enough to piece those two lines together without explaining anything and it really comes across. It's her ability to immerse herself in her character and her faith in the audience to understand her feelings with a simple phrase that really shines through.

lucas maglio I loved how Matt was literally leaving it up to Tallesin. It wasn't easy, Tallesin didn't want to play Percy again, he was ready for another character I heard. So it wasn't easy, you're right.
LakeVermilionDreams Letting your player decide whether not they want to return from a resurrection spell? Good DMing done right.
I've adopted this Mercer method. Makes death waaaay scarier. Especially if you go with his suggestion of raising the dc every time they die
Oh raising the dc... It would make sense. Like each time they have to basically give a new excuse for the raven queen to reconsider ferrying the soul onward.

Poor Matt going into silent Panic mode when Keyleth started to read too deeply into the letter. Watch his eyes dart around, it's hysterical.
Aye. My DM senses were tingling there, too. xD
"READ THE LETTER FIRST" as he suddenly realises she might see the ring, heh
Well, they're officially engaged now anyway, soooo...
His nervous laugh at Vex's joke at 2:03:30 really revealed his worries.
Rabbitfighter09 Yeah watched this episode just now, I thought it was hillarious and just hoped that matt was going to escape that trap he set for himself haha.
Hearing Pike in her usual very innocent adorable tone say “well… we could save a little money” in regards to saving her dead friend is so funny
She’s at the bargaining stage in her grief apparently
Another thing I noticed: Vex using residuum to aid in bringing back Percy was a call back to him doing the same for her when _she_ died.
I forgot that. wow way to remember that.
MORE TEARS! T-T
I was really surprised when Matt blew past that and was like "Ya ya, whatever, but what are you going to do to contribute to the ritual?"
Liam's performance at the beginning was great acting when he was talking to Kynan.
Liam and Laura sell it all the way. You can tell they love this. When Laura was doing her part in the res it was moving.
Side note: I love that Laura now has a little cell for her dice jail.
I'm not even superstitious, but if I ever pick up DnD I'm going to have a Dice Jail, in honor of Laura.
There are little towers you can make for dice to help with rolling them into a little box.
They roll from a small tower and tumble into a small wooden box.
Quite handy for when you don't want to worry about cocking the dice or getting them on the floor.
A gift during a CritMass none the less :)
Mad Hatters in jeans that’s not what her dice jail is for, it’s for when she gets a bad roll she puts the dice in jail
I think it goes to show how impactful this death was because I have not seen a single mention of the fact that this is Episode 69.

Man, Kerr is incredible. Not a single dice roll under his belt at this point, and still one of the best guest characters.
He's truly a master
Considering just how much content there is of him, I'm fairly sure no one has ever made me laugh as often as Sam. Man is just a master of comedy.

@First Last It's just the way Matt describes the world based upon their rolls. Even if their character can't know something because of a poor roll, he still tends to give a hint to the player that all is less then well. Unless it's too low, in which case they are completely oblivious.

Travis trying his hardest not to cry when his wife is crying is the most amazing thing ever.
Damn, didn't notice it but you're right, wholesome moment indeed.
Vex's Nat 20 on the ritual crit me right in the feels. Strongest 20 in the show so far.
The double crit to save her brother from the brierwoods also..insane!
She literally resurrected him with a kiss. That's old school 😎
It has been said many times before - enough that many have grown tired of hearing it - but that is only because it is true:

Vex's plea for Percy during the ritual is tearjerking
Keyleth showed lovely artistry and the charisma check from Matt was perfect for the tension
And the 19 she gets is perfect too, since that with a charisma modifier of 0 is really cool imo :)
Even Sam got emotional in that moment. He doesn't cry very often on stream...but that got him.

I love watch Travis play he’s so respectful with Matt and and the others and when Laura rolled her nat 20 urging Matt to come look 😊 he’s my favorite
What I love about the end of the last episode and the beginning of this one is that they show who the true leaders of Vox Machina are. Grog and Scanlan may be idiots and the comic relief but when shit hit the fan they got dead serious and started planning all in character. Without them something would have gone incredibly wrong.
I feel like at some point they are all required to step up
I think its more that they see the others need to grieve. Its like how when theres a Family loss, theres one family member who keeps it together to plan the funeral. Its the ultimate sacrifice and show of Love for the others.
Grog and Scanlan have always been the leaders the rest are idiots and/or min/maxers for fights

So I can enjoy the delightful tension of moments like this. Also, you guys are asses. I should have been in bed for two hours when the last episode ended. Now here I am commenting 3 and half hours late for bed smiling.

I'm jealous, how on earth have you managed to avoid spoilers?! I try so hard but I've still had so many things spoiled for me.
@@whimsicalityexpert9646 It helps that most of the D&D folks that I know are still rocking the old school pen and paper if at all. Plus I've been mostly in the modded Minecraft stuff on UA-cam. P.S. even a year later just the memory of this episode is enough to bring back a lump in my throat and mist to my eyes. In my opinion one of the best performances I have ever seen.
@@joejarvis2793 I know, right! I've been an emotional wreck for the last two days. Just a little part thats so nice about Vex's offering is how the music swells so perfectly as she says "its yours". It was so cinematic, and the music during that entire scene made it seem straight out of a movie. Such a lovely episode.
There have been a few times like that when the music just happened to synergize perfectly with what's happening in the game. Magical every time.
@@EnDSchultz1 I think their background staff were careful picking the right music for this episode.
We knew from the last one that there was obviously going to be a big moment coming.
But yes, Vex did a fantastic job in this episode.
@@Madhattersinjeans Just as a note, I'm pretty sure Matt controls all the music and sound effects while they're playing.
@@Madhattersinjeans Nah Matt controls the music during the games always. Only he knows whats coming next, so it can't be someone else
1:58:16 Kerr Package. Patrick Rothfuss, wherever you are, you are a wordsmith
Well the one thing we know for sure is that he’s not at his writing desk.
If Matt had used the game to propose to Marisha live and on screen, it would cause too many deaths from critters' heads exploding.
Lmao not elaborate enough for Matt's pride
@@elbruces Matt posted a video of how he actually proposed to Marisha.. and i think he knocked it out of the park!
this man literally micro-engineered an elaborate escape room that involved all of his friends in order to propose to his wife
Man, Travis deciding to insight check Pike over the books was absolutely hilarious.
Can we just appreciate how GOOD of a DM Matt is.
Lately these episodes have been kind of borish imo. they need to get onto the dragon fight already....
Zsnake Pliscon you need to slow your role player. just enjoy the method acting
Supergamesniper9 It's all on the dice rolls
Yeah been there, not the hero thing but taken advantage of by a clever, terrible woman lol

Bearing in mind that Ashely is in NY and is 3 hours ahead of the rest of them.
As far as I know Ashley shows up any time she can already.
What is Kerr's letter to Keyleth referring to? I know I have to be missing something...
Keyleth also makes a lot of sense if you turn her into an anime character
I think that would be a dream come true for many!!
I know this is old but this may be happening :) they are launching a kick starter in March to make VM animated.
Don't get me wrong, I am ecstatic that Ripley is gone, but I am horribly bitter that NOBODY made a 'believe it or not' joke
Katie Burke they would of, if they didn't have a dead Percy to be concerned about.
( After Percy's revived) "So, Percy... Ripley's, believe it or not, really dead now!" 😅
Scanlan did make a comment during one of the episodes where they initially encountered her.
Bananas. To quote South Park's Chewbacca defense- that does not make sense.
There’s something about the lighting or something but her eyes pop so blue, like incredibly blue.

Not sure how I haven't seen a comment yet, but considering how emotional this episode was, something about seeing/hearing Patrick Rothfuss read/send Keyleth a letter was... the emotional icing on the cake. I have no insight other than intuition, but I feel like Matt asked Patrick to do that as a special something for Marisha (favourite author maybe?). Seemed pretty impactful for both Marisha and Keyleth. That physical ring is a heck of a keepsake. Great episode.
