What a wonderful energetic man. If John was born today his mother would be frantic and he would be on drugs for ADHD and we would be missing such a wonderful unique human being, that certainly lights up my day

I don’t feel like I’m watching a video. I feel as though I stopped over to say hello to a friend! I’ll leave feeling good about my garden skills because I do exactly what he does. If it doesn’t look good, I’ll move it.

Love watching you ‘rectify your mistakes’ John. Gives me confidence to have a go, though maybe not with a pick axe…such inspirational videos, have learnt more from watching you (as a newbie gardener) than anyone else. Thank you. (Although I am still trying to like phormiums!!)

I am an American and my maiden name was O'Brien. Maybe it's my Irish roots, but I love gardening! I would give just about anything to grow blue meconopsis! I saw it once at the Chelsea Flower Show but my hot Midwestern summers would prevent me from even trying. Good luck with yours!

Ooh a new video from my favorite garden guy! Thanks for sharing your mid-August chores. I always learn so much. I bought a new Potentilla a few weeks ago. It's supposed to have dark pink flowers. Potentilla fruticosa Bella Bellissima™My thinking is that they're making a comeback because they're drought tolerant and we can always use more plants that don't require a ton of water.

It’s very interesting to me that John never bothers to break up the roots in a pot bound plant. Every book tells you to do it, but John’s garden seems like evidence that it’s not necessary. And it’s a pain to do.

Absolutely adore my sky blue Delphinium- I think it’s the millennium series if memory serves. And my Boom Chocolatta and good old standard Rozanne varieties of geranium. But my absolute favourite blue perennial is Gold ‘n Sapphires Lithodora. Took almost 3 years to really take off and spread so be patient but it looks marvellous now. Have it edging the front of a border with catmint and Russian sage behind it.

Helenium Sahin's Early Flowerer is one of my top five favorite requirement have in the garden. Lovely in front of Asclepias incarnata, which is 4ft wide x 4-5ft tall. It got some form of burrowing beetle, but I was able to save a thumb size silver, and in 3yrs it will be 4ft wide x 3-4ft tall again. It seems to enjoy the clay soil for its moisture holding aspect. It is not something you can necessary find year-round in the states. What a pollinator magnet too.
