Something that took me back ( not about Revco) that was in video was the term “Raincheck”.
I remember going to Children’s Palace and my mom getting a Raincheck for Splinter from TMNT , and a few days later getting a call saying they had one on hold for us.

Those are the same kinds of places where you found Gobots knockoffs like Select Convertors. Also I'm sure "Insect Man" was meant to be a knockoff of Sectaurs. "Super Man Car" was a knockoff of the Shogun Warriors Grendizer. Street Hero is based on the movie likeness of Street Fighter Blanka.

No but I remember back in '88 or '89 we were at a People's drug store and they had 2 Star Wars action figures left over from probably '84 or '85. They were removable limbs 3po and sensorscope R2 on Jedi cards. I bought both for a couple a bucks! Those two were the last Star Wars action figures I bought when I was a kid and the last time I saw Kenner Star Wars on the shelves until '95.
Of course I already had those two, but mine were worn out lol. I was totally excited to see those on the pegs after years!

Don't forget too, Revco was one of the first places in the South that could open on a Sunday because of the blue laws. The logic was grandma might need to get her drugs after church service so why not go with her and beg to get a toy surprise? Also, before the video game crash of the 80s Revco had a lot of good off-brand games by Mattel and Imagic in a case behind the register. My local Revco even had a drink machine outside by Coke that let you play a quick video game with a monkey catching Coca-Cola cans before it dispensed the drink that you had selected. That phased out very quick cuz if you were good at the game everybody behind you was mad that you were still playing while they were waiting to make their drink selections.

Cool! Man, I remember Eckert, Zaire, Stuart's, Rich's, Osco drug, Woolworth's, Bradlee's, and Store 24. From New England here and the 70's and 80's were the best.

I've never seen a Revco. There was a Drugs for Less store next to the Kmart in Snellville when I was a kid. They put a Rite Aid next to Target in 1993-94. Around the time that GoBots came out, I recall visiting a Woolworths, although it was in a different town. I don't remember where it was.

I think the Palace of Misfit Toys in my youth in my neighborhood had to be the Roses department chain. There were so many knock off figures straight from Singapore. Bad sculpts, card translations and extended lines with every vehicle imagined. It was beautiful. They would last probably a day if you were lucky before they broke apart in your hands. Many a Black Cat firecracker was strategically used to expedite the demise of the priceless toy. Thanks for the video. You were right on the money!

Supermancar is interesting. It reminds me of Radio Flyer. What was popular when they invented that red wagon? Radios and planes. Zippo was named because zippers were the hot new thing, buttons were lame bs.
Enter offshore toymakers trying to figure out what kids liked and slap that name on something.

That's amazing because in Saginaw, Bay City, Midland where I grew up they didn't exist. I remember around 1989-90 seeing baseball cards with the Revco label and assuming those stores only existed in major cities like Detroit, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, ect

I think your street hero toys were street fighter 2 inspired. Green he must be Blanka and the kickboxer onthe right is definitely Sagat. Im from Toronto Canada and the drug store I use in this episode is IDA . IDA had had japanese non Tonka brand GoBots. I bought Leader 1, the submarine guy and Jeepor Creepor and I think Coptor from them. There was also a Takara Starscream available at some IDA stores. Canada used to have Woolworths. And 1 year I managed to convince my parents to get me a Takara version of Soundwave from Woolworths. BTW Joey Thunder looks like big daddy cool Diesel. Must be just a coincidence. Lol 😂

Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar are good places to find cheap off brand toys. And believe it or not some Walgreens still have some odd cheap toys in them. Can't beat those final faction figures at Dollar tree for only a $1.25 even the accessory packs and vehicles are also a $1.25 apiece.

Often you can find the hard to get figures at drug stores. Especially GI Joe's, and this was true right into 2012/13 with the Retaliation subline of Ultimates which I found them only at Rite Aid and 0 place else. Pharmacies often had a up charge of a few bucks compared to actual toy store like Toysrus but often worth it. Fun video Junk.

Let me tell you, where I lived we had a Motts Five and Dime (Dimestore for old timers like me) modern people would call it now the "Dollar Store." This store, Woolworth, Wilco, TG&Y and other "drug and variety" stores, cool toys were the norm. I have my original Remco motorized sailboat from the 80s, bought at a Woolworth. Also, Victor Stanzel "Electromic" airplanes (airplane guided by a motor cable from a handheld motor) kites, and bump & go and mystery action cars. Sometimes even slot car sets!!
Each drug store that had a toy section usually had toys sold under the brand name of the drug store. Like the "Woolworth Can Am Figure 8 racing set." Or the knockoff "TG&Y Stretch Hulk Hogan". I restore old toys as a hobby, and I remember a lot of kids who would sneak away from their parents to see what cool toys lurked in the aisles. Such good times!!! I miss those stores and the toys they had. Today's toys are a pathetic shadow of what once was.

Well, based on the Revco toys, I guessRevco In The Hood would be about a lot of Dungeon dwetters fighting insectish people? Oh, and you need ahero with a common first name and a last name that'd make people wanna puke, like Kevin Bausch the Adventure King We need a good bad guy character that we can kill off but magically revive in a sequel to claim he's Kevin's dad. See, then we don't miss a trick in plot development. We'll need cute baby insects to sell as Revco Babies, to copy the girlish sales of Muppet Babies. We can make it that the Revco Babies leak slime in their diapers. Kids will feel like they are changing realrunny diapers! Fun for the whole family! They'll probably bring back Revco's everywhere in cities and hopefully replace all those spanish corner stores....how do spanish corner stores stay in business when they are at every darn corner? Mody likely cos of those little bags that are the only things you actually see customers come out of the store with......definately not Revco powders or liquids or pills......
