To attack a monster, you have to be in a room adjacent to it that you've reached on your path. So no damage taken in that first round because no monster attacked because you're not yet adjacent to it. Using your two pair was sufficient. Thank you for the playthrough!
Thanks so much for your comment, but just checking the rules again and they don't say that you have to be adjacent to a monster... (at least not the rules I have access to). "The player loses 1 Life point if they do not deal at least 1 Damage to a Monster during each round-even if they use both dice pairs elsewhere."
Pretty sure you can do that, but it may be that I played one thing incorrectly. I remember a comment on this video, but maybe I am confusing things… It’s been a while 🫣
I’ve heard the best tweak for solo is to treat the lives as a counter, not a pass/fail end of game. When you hit the last one just tally up your score!
Been playing this R&W game all weekend and as a solo player I quite enjoyed it. However,I think it is very unfair to lose lives as soon as you start because there are no real direct connections to monsters. A simple additional rule that would be fair is this:when you cross out any started green squares then you do not lose a life ! Well, just an idea 😊 Enjoy your videos a lot and thank you for solo playing.
Thanks so much, Apollonia! I really do enjoy the normal multiplayer mode but not don't fancy the solo mode nearly as much, also mainly for those reasons... You may want to check out "Twilight Inscription" (just finishing my solo playthrough, just saying...), which comes with a pretty solid mode. Of course it's much more involved than this one!
I generally don't find Roll and Write games engaging, but your video totally fascinated me. Choose 2 pairs of dice and cross them off? Easy! Nope, not easy. After watching I had to try it out, and found it a great challenge. Thanks Markus!
Hello from the UK, Just subscribed. Got this game but haven't played it yet. Like the close -ups because it helps a lot due to the small print&pictures. Will start when I finish with another Roll and Write:Imperial Settlers....your video will help a lot. Thank you. Great video.
This is an old video but everyone should know that the goal of solo really isn’t to kill every monster (or actually to say not really possible). The goal really is to score as many points as possible before you die (or run out of time). Then you can record your own high score or compare it to a table of results that is in the rule book.
Thanks, David and this never actually occurred to me! But definitely somewhat weakens the solo mode for me as I don't really like comparing scores in a solo game...
@@realjplay Wow ... I don't know... I kept tinkering with them, tearing them apart and rebuilding. I've tried using exclusively ramps (Lego "roof" bricks), and others with intersecting beams to randomize the dice bounces inside the tower, some hybrids using both, and others using "steps" instead. I have two in use right now - one about the same size as yours, and another more compact one.
And that was the "easy" board!? Three rows of boxes on the points track seems optimistic! lol Thanks Markus, really enjoyed watching along. Looks a really fun roll and write.
Markus, Will you ever play the Pyramid Puzzle of this game (solo),please ? I don't understand why you cannot visit the whole board unless you cross out the 11. I am playing D,D&D sitting in my armchair because I have sciatica a d my leg is raised so my other games will have to wait a while 😢 Can you suggest another R&W game to play in my rec!iner ,please. Thank you.
Ha - thanks so much for your interest and I understand your thought process :-D I haven't played the game for quite a while but really should revisit it, as I do think it's quite fun.

This type of game, where you make sure anything you could roll will work, is the perfect type of dice game for you.
HA - I agree, it's the perfect match :-D

If there is no way to do combat on the first turn, could you make a house rule where you don't take a life point hit on the first role?

I actually do misunderstand the solo mode as winning or losing is not really a thing. You simply tally up your score and compare it to the table.
23:34 If you damage a monster you don't need to use the second pair. You don't get wounded.
Aah - indeed. I completely missed that! Good catch!

Thanks so much, Richard. I believe I cheated myself more than once by simply forgetting a rule (specific for solo that is) but still: not simple :-D

Thanks so much and may definitely enjoy this one! Currently I am playing „Twilight Inscription“ on my channel, which is really great!

I started making Lego dice towers years ago because of your videos, Markus! 😂
Dice TowerS? How many of them did you built? :-D

Mine is pretty heavy actually - pretty sturdy though. Definitely thinking about a lighter version sooner or later.

Thanks, Paul - hope that all is well! I guess it plays slightly differently in multiplayer - you will die less likely (I hope) :-D
