Seeing the comments here, makes me say this.. Sibi Malayil is one of the best directors. No question about it. He is not a writer, so what? All the Lohi movies that he directed, while they are good and emotionally touching, if they were directed by Sibi, it must have been way above than what it is today. No question about it. The combo is the best. We have to accept that. Like Sathyan anthikkad and srini, like MT and Hariharan. We have very few such magical combos. Just respect both. Lohi and MT are the two writers who could emotionally to heart surgery of the viewers. No one else did it so consistently. There are other movie makers who did it at once or twice, but not with the consistency that these two did. They just knew that magic. The tragedy of Malayalam movie is - no one in today’s movie making are coming anyway close to these legends. Of course there are one time and occasional successes. But not where a movie maker is so consistent like these legends. Wish they lasted more. 🙏

Sibi malayil displayed level headness and maturity throughout the interview which make me feel like movie will be of high calibre. Most of the other 90s legend who try to comeback always talk immaturily and shy away from being criticized always give disappointing movies like sn swamy, k madhu, rajasenan, balachandramenon, shaji kailas etc.

He failed to discover another writer in par with lohi and there started his beginning of failure. His “Apoorvaragam” is an example of one of such failure.
I feel this interview is in bad taste and unethical to be presenting one sided stories of a person and his choices when he isn't here any longer to speak for himself. Tactfully throwing in a few words to say, "Lohi was gullible" or "i wouldn't blame Lohi" or "Lohi may have been in financial pressures" is the most sly way to try to send out a narrative that can't be disputed while appearing 'honourable'. No matter what personal experiences there may have been, this is not how people bury their hatches with the departed. The graceful way to have dealt with it would have been to say, "we did have our differences and difficulties in our relationship but I'm glad we were able to come to terms with it towards his end." The telling sign is when Sibi says, that when Lohi passes away, in hind sight it was a relief that Lohi had the opportunity to 'confess' before he passed on! Sounds like someone who's full of himself. Highly disappointing to see Sibi being gullible or crafty. And to think Film Companion thought the line of questioning doesn't seem too 'set up', is weird. Oh and him mentioning about how Lohi came to his rescue and he didn't get credit for the help and that was acceptable to him as a director! Seems like someone who didn't want that man to explore his ability as a director and remain a writer at others disposal ... Had he not become a director, we wouldn't get such kanmadam, bhoothakannadi, kasturimaan, arayannamgalide veedu. He lived a short life. And he isn't here to tell his side of things. This is not a promotion for a new movie. This is an attempt to convince those petty people who judge Sibi to be nothing without Lohi and I feel heartbroken to see that the fabulous Director Sibi sees himself through the eyes of these trolls and feel the need to convince them. And chose to justify it through this crass interview. Disappointing.
This guy always sounds very crooked and manipulative in his interviews. In every interview of his, he badmouths both Lohi sir and Mohanlal. Because once Lohi and Lal moved away from his films, people saw his real worth which is nothing. He is nothing without a good script writer and performers. So his whole credibility was at risk because people wrote him off saying that Lohi's script was that saved his ass in his hey days. So he tries maximum to belittle Lohi and his contribution to these films so that some naive audience might believe that he is the major creative force behind these movies. This guy made horrendous movies like Apoorva ragam and Flash! I don't even remember his non Lohi, non Mohanlal movies.

'Summer in bethlehem' was loaded with superstars and the script ideas were copied from the American movies, 'Come September', and 'Fiddler on the roof'' and culturally adapted by Ranjith. Akasha Doooth is written by one of the strongest writers, Dennis Joseph based on an American TV movie, 'Who will love my children'. But I don't like that movie either. Usthad was rejected by Sibi Malayil himself saying that he made it under the manipulation of Shaji Kailas and Ranjith and he shouldn't have made a movie like that!!! It was written by Ranjith on the lines of Baatcha (veettil normal ettan, veliyil mega don). Nothing magical anywhere here.

And there are so many to think this is a 'frank, open, graceful' interview! How is it people don't see the indecency in this anymore, i wonder!
He could have avoided discussing this topic now. But he has a point. Script writing and direction are entirely different arts and some may excel in both. But Lohitadas was not among them. Except Bhoothakannadi, all his works as a director, are lost opportunities.
