In response to 1, can you also do that with oculus rift sensors? That seems like a nice alternative, since they're half the cost of Vive base stations.
People always say it's possible, but I actually did it. I love the Odyssey+ but the controller tracking isn't great, so I got a used Vive, kept the base stations and sold the headset and controllers. Then I got a pair of Index controllers. But I also had to spend another $100 on two USB dongles to connect the Index controllers. The Index controllers, like the Vive wand controllers, each have to connect to a wireless receiver in the headset, and there are two controllers so there are two receivers in the headset. If you don't have the headset to connect the controllers to, you need to buy Steam controller USB receivers and flash them to Vive firmware, or Vive trackers without using the trackers, or the replacement USB receivers for the trackers, which I was lucky enough to find two of. The controllers can't just connect to Bluetooth like people might think. One benefit of this setup is that it's upgradable. Mine wouldn't work at first due to usb issues. So people know, you need to delete any usb driver that has "extensible" in it but not "microsoft" also in it. That fixes it.
My Odyssey + is really jerky with side to side head movements, and sometimes it's perfect for like 5 minutes. I'm running it on a new Asus Rog strix scar 2 laptop with RTX 2070, and all my other HMDs run fine. This sounds like it could be something I can try!

@@hardik091987 I got mine in time for the holidays thankfully. I love it. Setup is easy (if WMR Portal doesn't see boundary, just wait or adjust lighting in the room). Tracking is great, barely any SDR. It does press up a bit to my glasses, so I haven't gone full on crazy with it. Waiting for my prescription lenses to add on from WIDMOvr. Glad I chose it over the Vive, saved me a ton of money.
sorry for being so late, but i do want to say that it will absolutely work! i have 8 eyes (2 groups of 4) and 93 sets of ears and it's working perfectly.
I bought this a few months ago based on your reviews, THANK YOU! I FEKKING LOVE THIS HEADSET. I immediately dumped my oculus, no more setup no sensors no screen door just play! ----> it fits my head just fine Im 6'2" 230lbs so it fits bigger men and still fits my glasses when/if I want to wear them. Cheers man
next gen will be a Fov Gen, but for now the problem is that big Fov needs a lot of GPU power that doesn;t exist.. even people with the pimax are reducing the Fov to make it usable
I can understand if this is showing off the "standalone" headset they made, but its probably worth noting that they did make a proper VR headset in 2017, although it was a PC VR headset and not standalone.
I like the odyssey plus, but the built in blue tooth tracking has issues. My right controller looses pairing during gameplay and sometimes I get a loud audio static noise blasting through the headset. I started using my original odyssey because this seems to be a defective problem with some of these headsets.
I had the normal Odyssey. Had some issues. 1 the far end of the screen blurs bad when playing in death. 2 I kept losing tracking in shooting games plus at the top just above my eyebrows. 3 and the main reason for the return was the drifting on the right stick when playing SteamVR games. Still got the Rift and PSVR.
I noticed the edges seem blurrier than Vive. Also, this does what Rift does. When you rotate your head back and forth, you can slightly see the world shifting. I dont know if that's "pupil swim" or what.
try to get closer to the lenses. that will disappear with that. unfortunately as I said in the review the face cushion doesn't help al all to make the visuals good
Excellent review! I own the Vive and wanted to upgrade. Tried the Vive Pro, but was not particularly impressed. Tried both the Odyssey and the Plus. Bought the Plus because the screen is so nice. Added some foam in the nose to block light and some fleece flaps on the side to cover gaps. Fantastic deal at $300. Wide Fov would be nice, but I am not willing to gamble on Pimax. Will wait for some competition in the wide Fov headsets.
Just ordered the headset, but a bit concerned about the light bleed. Would you mind going into a bit more detail of how you added the foam and fleece flaps to fix this?
Just adding some infomation about my Odyssey plus headset. I really didnt know much about IPD until talk about these new headsets that are coming out in 2019. I found out my eyes have an IPD is 60 and my Odyssey plus would manually only adjust down to an IPD of 62.9. So I am currently sending my VR headset back to Samsung to get one that will meet their specifications and go down to 60 IPD. i am not the only one that has run into this problem, so thought I would pass this along to this topic about the Odyssey plus headset.
I used to have an oculus headset, so almost all my games were bought on the oculus store. Will I still be able to play all those oculus games with this headset?
@@GabsterHamster yeah I'm hanging out for a Black Friday deal here in Aus. I see it's $229 USD on Newegg so I'm hoping for something close to that conversion

You don't have to use Ni-Zn(Nickel Zinc) batteries. Those are just cheap included ones. Any AA batteries would work regardless of the chemistry powering it. It's weird that you recommended rechargable batteries and then contradicted yourself by saying they had to be Ni-Zn.
unfortunately, that's what you need if you don't want problems with Bluetooth connection and the software detecting low battery and switching to a lower refresh rate for the controllers. that's the way to go
Is the device Freesync or G-Sync compatible? Which graphicscard would you recommend? Nvidia or AMD and from which level? Thanks a lot for the great review
there is no freesync or Gsync in vr, you don't really need it, tearing doesn't really exist, I suggest the nvidia btw, better drivers for VR and overall more powerful gpus
Hi Tyriel, just got my headset yesterday, it's awesome! I'm just wondering in this video you said the ipd range is 60-70, do you mean specifically 60-70? On mine it's 63-74, and it seems I can't get it any lower, my actual ipd is 59, idk if it's just my headset or they are all like that
@@Tyrielwood Hey Tyriel, I'm having some trouble with the visuals on this and I just got it today, it seems extremely blurry even though the image is clear, I'm not sure if I'm too close to the lenses somehow but it looks like there's a some kind of blurry film over the lenses that I can't get rid of.
We need to revisit this Od + thing. There are things people need to know about WMR that are misleading from these reviews. WMR feels more beta. You might have to tinker with it a lot depending on your luck. And we should really discuss how Revive doesn't work for many people including myself. When I use Revive, everything is wobbly and unusable. Is there a work around? are they going to fix this? Please try to run revive on your WMR headset again.
@@Tyrielwood anything I try on revive is very unsteady when you move your head. I have the latest revive version 1.64 I believe.. It doesn't work running it without steam, i just get loading dots.. and from steam its wobble city.
I’m hesitant of the comfort issue. I could probably buy a cover, I just don’t want to have to spend another 30$ on a cover. I currently have the 1st gen HP Windows mixed reality 1440. If you have ever tried that one, is the comfort of that similar or better than the odyssey? If it’s basically the same than I don’t need a cover. If the comfort is really that big of a draw, I might just buy a cover anyways. Nice video by the way, good review.
I have the rift and now got the odyssey+ and god damn this is so different!! This is how vr should be everywhere! I want this display in my rift. So i could have this great tracking and the touch controllers combined with the perfect screen. And i would prefere the mic of the o+ too^^
great review, but the oculus rift vr cover you used and linked is WAY to thin, its about half as thick as the stock cover, installing it is fine its fits, but its so thin that it doesnt even come close to clearing the cavity gap, so im sitting here with the plastic edges against my face - yours looks different too, more cushy and thick, did you link the correct one? I ordered them as you recommended but I need to return them because they are useless
Hello! Your video prepared me very well to the product, thanks. Here my personal review: I bought this product (2020, during Corona for € 500) and it's got AWESOME DISPLAYS. No doubt. The sweet spot is small, you will find yourself sometimes rearranging the headset, but no eye cancer and no motion sickness with it! Great... UNLESS the batteries of the controler get empty or you have reflecting objects in your room, it immeadetly starts flickering, and your eyes will bleed. After searching the internet I read this is normal. Wut? They put so much money into VR products and don't think about the most simple stuff. When the controler's batt is getting empty it goes into batt save mode, from 90 hz down to 60 hz, but your screen is 90 hz, wich means if you watch your hands move ingame they will jitter, you will get eye cancer. If any reflections distract the headset's motion sytem, or the controler's are out of view, your point of view can get buggy, it's then stuck to the environment and changes withing parts of seconds from where your head is down to the floor. Torture. Further- there is a sensor inside that tells the computer when you put it on. On sone games, you take it off and the game closes. Now we covered the sensor. Makes sense. Still, plug and play really works, easy, we had a lot of fun with it in the first days. Then the frustrating part came, a few titles won't work properly until you install steam vr ADVANCED OPTIONS. Steam/ Valve put a few millions in there and forgot about some superbasic options like to fix the distance to the floor, ingame. So let's try Alys, this game gives hope for the future, so big up VR fans.
@@Suddsy4L Horrible. Never got it to work. I just had a friend who is good with that stuff try to fix it today. The USB can't be detected. It didn't even work on his PC so it might be the headset itself. I'm returning it tomorrow.
I just wanna use it for MSFS 2020 and DCS. I probably will never use those controllers. Being as I’m using it for flight sims, I’ll have a HOTAS. Also I don’t have BT on my pc so hopefully I can set this up with a mouse and don’t need the controllers
Great video, A bit off topic question, I have a Rift, and although their headphones r great, but I took them off and i use my headphones, the question is, do I lose audio positioning? I read that if I turn my head the Rift sounds differ but I'm not sure if it's the same with my headphones.

Hi Tyriel, I know you touched on it, but how much better is the tracking than the original? Is it enough to justify an upgrade? I wasn’t really impressed with the original’s tracking.
Tyriel, first off, thanks for all your content. I greatly appreciate it! I do have a quick question. I'm a huge fan of In Death, and it's really the only room scale game I play (mainly into sim racing). How is the tracking with this Odyssey+ compared to a room scale Oculus Rift or Vive? If I get this headset I'm going to sell my Rift and would hate to have a poor gaming experience with In Death. Thanks!
if in death is important for you don't change headset, it is playable with wmr, but you will go nuts compared to the oculus or vive tracking when using a bow.. I will not recommend to update in your case.. I'm being super honest
I bought a normal Lithium rechargeable batteries for my Lenovo controllers. Cuz they are both wmr controllers should be same. It works without much problem. So just go ahead and buy a regular rechargeable batteries. they are 1.2V instead of 1.5V but should work just fine.
Hello. I have some questions about the VR games and VR set and for my rig. So to my questions! 1: My rig is an I/7 8700K 3.7 6 Cores and I can overlock it more if necessary, Nvidia 2080 RTX Ti 11GB, 16 GB DDR4 2666 and I play the games 4K in a 28" Samsung monitor. So is my rig enough at least for now for a great graphics/FPS (Frames Per Second) VR gaming experience or I need to upgrade to add something new? 2: Can I play the VR games 4K like I did with the conventional PC games or there is not something like 4K with VR or at least 2K/3k resolution 3: Are this VR set, easy to learn to play, calibrate or fix do it's with bugs and problems like most of the Hardware and is it healthy to play for hours and hours or because of all of this thing up to your head and eyes, of course, it's dangerous or you can't play for a long time and more? 4: Can I play sitting down to my chair and I prefer to play the VR games sitting not standing and stuff and my playroom is kinda large so I am cool do I need something bigger or smaller room are better I just don't know? 5: I have Win10x64 so am I cool with it and like the GPU and more you can find the latest drivers for the sets in the net? 6: In my rig, I have USB3 and USB2 and I connect my GPU to my monitor with DP (Display Port) and I have one up with my monitor and two HDMI am I cool I don't have blue tooth do I need an adaptor or somewthing? 7: I only want this to play VR PC games with my PC like Half-Life Alyx that is the best of all is it good for VR pc steam games?
I got rid of my odyssey + because the sweetspot was too small and the Vertical Pupil swim was terrible. If you pan your head form left to right any vertical line will warp which breaks Immersion completely. The oculus doesn't do this. It sucks because the SO+ was amazing looking but the lenses are just not that great in my opinion.
I actually prefer the OG Odyssey as far as the fit goes. The + had too much light leakage and did not fit my face- even using several different VR covers...
‘Foam Replacement Velour Cover’, OG Samsung cover as well as some of my old Vive covers. None of them blocked out the light on the sides or wrapped around my face tightly enough... I think my head shape played a factor, but also the fact the HMD has a more rigid design without the recoil mechanism played a big factor as well. The OG Odyssey fit like a glove right out of the box with no light leakage whatsoever.
@@ExtraAtEase The Pimax 5k Business Edition looks good. OLED instead of the normal 5k LCD screens, less distortion, 999$ price point. Still waiting for some extensive reviews but the first hands on i've seen gave me a good feeling about this HMD. pimaxvr.com/products/business?variant=19913521496123
if you have that much money to spare buddy i recommend the pimax 5k+.. has great resolution and a veeery wide FOV for max immersion but a lil more SDE than this odyssey. also the controllers arent out yet for the pimax soooo.. yeah. Take that in consideration. still u can use Vive controllers for the pimax. whatever u do, dont get the vive pro.. either odyssey+ or a pimax new headset
I didn’t realize the controllers were paired to the headset itself and ended up pairing them with my PC. How do I re-pair them with my headset? Anyone know?
How do you compare this today to the Pimax 5K+ and HP Reverb? Given that the HP reverb is delayed, I am considering just buying this one, you can get them cheaper.
The controllers have bad quality control. Mine had a defective trigger out of the box, and resetting them completely broke the right one. It no longer turns on properly, even though it says "connected", it doesn't work, and says lost tracking instead. The tracking lights stopped turning bright, and it seems like something in the controller burned out.
I have an odyssey plus, the new anti screen door filter looks like you put a see through painting canvas over the lenses and adds this annoying texture over the picture, it's way more annoying than the screen door effect, also the attached earphones cannot be moved out of the way or detached to use your own headset, there's no way. I used to own a lenovo explorer and loved it a little bit more than the odyssey plus, the controllers look different but still have the same problem that the lenovo's conrollers did, at random times wmr controllers read that you're touching the round trackpad when you aren't touching it at all which throws you sprinting in some games without even touching the controllers. It's good but I like the Lenovo explorer alot, I miss it and wish I skipped out sending it back for an odyssey. The odyssey plus's foam padding is also super uncomfortable and gives me a headache, after about 30 minutes of use, the padding gives me red pressure lines across my whole forehead that stays around for a few hours.
Do I have to order both "Oculus Rift Facial Interface & Foam Replacement Basic Set" & "Oculus Rift Foam Replacement PU Leather"? or "Samsung Odyssey Foam Replacement Velour" this works for Odyssey+? Also does this stop light bleeding? Thanks and Great video.
to stop the light bleeding I'm using the velour cover on top of the pu cover, I didn't try the original Odyssey one on it, so I can't tell you, I'm using the Oculus one

No, the Quest is a portable solution with much less processing power. It will be awesome for portable VR but lets not forget it's just a fast as a good phone. The Odyssey is a full Windows Mixed Reality headset. It needs a PC but it's of course a much better experience than a phone cpu can give you.
If you use the original foam you will get very close to the screen and get a so big fov that the softness of the picture will not count. Use nvidia setting performace, wm reality setting automatic, advanced super sampling off, smooth mouvement off. This makes a pymax index in your samsung headset.

I did try a vive and when I removed the facepad the fov was good but it was very heavy on my head and uncomfortable Cheers
@paulnicolas172 you don't see the borders of the screens but you get a larger vertical fov than the other headset. It is not the best in comfort, unfortunately.
@@MrAminmohamed okay thanks for that . To be honest , the vertical fov isn’t an issue for me as it’s quite wide on the vive , it’s just the horizontal fov where I see bordering the most on the vive and it was a little immersion breaking as well but I was thinking of buying an index just because of the increased fov but I doubt my pc could handle it and if the odyssey fov is as good as the index then that’ll do and hopefully it will be lighter and there won’t be as many god rays as on the vive as well . Cheers
@@MrAminmohamed well that’s about a third better performance than my gtx 970 though so .... but looking on the windows mixed reality website it mentions a minimum of gtx 1060 for optimal performance but it doesn’t state of that’s the 3 or 6 go version - if it’s the 3gb then that’s on par with my gtx 970 and judging by some of the comments on Reddit it might be okay 👌🙏
When going from the original version to the plus what setup is necessary? Should the old odyssey be uninstalled? Or is just removing it physically enough ?

Id rather have the little bit of screen door effect, than to use the inside out tracking. Sure you get more freedom, but its just not as good as Rift or Vive tracking. Not yet. Its almost as bad as PSVR tracking imo. Plus the controllers felt so cheap. (had the first model)

I really wish Samsung would sell the Odyssey+ in Europe, importing is a hassle from the US and very expensive.
yep..
So I have three eyes and one of my ears is actually on my forehead, will this fit me?!
yes, but the audio will be weird
@@Tyrielwood I give this answer a 10 out of 10.
sorry for being so late, but i do want to say that it will absolutely work! i have 8 eyes (2 groups of 4) and 93 sets of ears and it's working perfectly.
rstride ah yes just what I was looking for
gave up on getting an Oculus headset after facebook account requirement. samsung is my new friend
Cheers man
Just pulled the trigger. A nice addition to my upgraded vive setup
Congrats Danno! you will love it^^ and you will also be able to use the vive tracking with it :) video about that coming soon
Now they really need to improve the fov of their next upgrade.
next gen will be a Fov Gen, but for now the problem is that big Fov needs a lot of GPU power that doesn;t exist.. even people with the pimax are reducing the Fov to make it usable
Do a comparison of this and the original vive
I love the Windows mixed reality games, like martha is dead, Sherlock Holmes, and the list goes on, is this the headset I would buy for that
Thank you for the great review. I was looking at VR headsets for my son and myself for Christmas, and was leaning towards the Odyssey.
I can understand if this is showing off the "standalone" headset they made, but its probably worth noting that they did make a proper VR headset in 2017, although it was a PC VR headset and not standalone.
Maybe the reverb V2 can compete in 2020 ... Please Windows!!!
I still have the HP WMR 199€
Jacob Schultz I can send you a photo if you would like. Send me you email.

Amazing video! Great comparison on fitment to clothing, very very true! I love the panels i just wish it fit MY face, sucks lol. Good job bud!
great job to you too! I finally had time to watch your reviews!
I've never seen it in the market, now I have
Just adding some infomation about my Odyssey plus headset.
You can do some mod Magic and it will work

Is there no sort of trade in deal for folks who have the OG odyssey?

If i had seen the odyssey plus for 299 i would have bought it *sigh*
Check newegg and Samsung site now if youre still interested
Frys electronics online is selling it for about 2 weeks for 299
It's on sale right now directly from Samsung
bigapplebuddy . com has it for 299 atm. have never had any experience with them so can't say much about the site other that it has a good trustpilot rating.
299 ON AMAZON right now
If you were to rate the tracking out of ten what would you give it?
Very nice review. Keep doing like this.
thanks christian!
You don't have to use Ni-Zn(Nickel Zinc) batteries. Those are just cheap included ones. Any AA batteries would work regardless of the chemistry powering it.
It's weird that you recommended rechargable batteries and then contradicted yourself by saying they had to be Ni-Zn.
unfortunately, that's what you need if you don't want problems with Bluetooth connection and the software detecting low battery and switching to a lower refresh rate for the controllers. that's the way to go
This is the last model? I Want to know about the First model from asus And Samsung.. people say Its a great option
Odyssey+ plugged into a ROG Zeph. Nice.
On mine it's 63-74, and it seems I can't get it any lower, my actual ipd is 59, idk if it's just my headset or they are all like that
are you having problems with the visuals? (congrats man btw :) )
Which one is better in terms of resolution.
What games are you trying on revive?
@@Tyrielwood anything I try on revive is very unsteady when you move your head. I have the latest revive version 1.64 I believe.. It doesn't work running it without steam, i just get loading dots.. and from steam its wobble city.
Do you need a PC for this? Or is it also like the Occulus Quest where it's an All-in-One?
taiter u will need a vr ready pc with a hdmi and usb3
I have a big head, so light bleeding isn't an issue with my Ody+. You say your name very fast. How is it pronounced?
I can't really pronounce it in the comments :P
I’m hesitant of the comfort issue. I could probably buy a cover, I just don’t want to have to spend another 30$ on a cover. I currently have the 1st gen HP Windows mixed reality 1440. If you have ever tried that one, is the comfort of that similar or better than the odyssey? If it’s basically the same than I don’t need a cover. If the comfort is really that big of a draw, I might just buy a cover anyways. Nice video by the way, good review.
4k video! So great! Congratulations. Now I'm watching!
you got it ^^ ahah
Great review! Skyrim with Mods and no SDE should be amazing on it! I would love to see a video of that!
I have to reinstall skyrim because I had to reset my pc.. so many mods.. ahahah
I have the rift and now got the odyssey+ and god damn this is so different!! This is how vr should be everywhere! I want this display in my rift. So i could have this great tracking and the touch controllers combined with the perfect screen. And i would prefere the mic of the o+ too^^
It sucks buying Odyssey+ now for 449 knowing that it was 299....
Vitalij S hey yo, just went on sale on Samsung’s site. 299 right now!
I paid 299 on Fry's.
great review, but the oculus rift vr cover you used and linked is WAY to thin, its about half as thick as the stock cover, installing it is fine its fits, but its so thin that it doesnt even come close to clearing the cavity gap, so im sitting here with the plastic edges against my face - yours looks different too, more cushy and thick, did you link the correct one?
Lol this is how the rift s design should have been like. No oculus products for me this year :)) will stick to my orig rift and maybe get the Samsung.
I have the odyssey plus. I'm sticking with it.
Just ordered mine and it should come in two days.
I hope it's good!

@@Suddsy4L Horrible.
Never got it to work. I just had a friend who is good with that stuff try to fix it today.

Keep in mind you need a usb 3.0.@@loslingos1232
I just wanna use it for MSFS 2020 and DCS. I probably will never use those controllers. Being as I’m using it for flight sims, I’ll have a HOTAS. Also I don’t have BT on my pc so hopefully I can set this up with a mouse and don’t need the controllers
I don't know why they didn't just put a lithium battery in the controllers with a micro USB charger. It would have cost an extra $10 per controller.
A non-removable cable is a deal breaker... the one thing that nearly always breaks is the cable given the twisting and constant movement it gets.
I've never broke a cable, but yep, I wish it was removable, more for wireless than anything else
@@Tyrielwood I've gone through two Rift cables in six months, but yeah can't wait for the quest!! :)
Great video,
A bit off topic question,
I have a Rift, and although their headphones r great, but I took them off and i use my headphones, the question is, do I lose audio positioning? I read that if I turn my head the Rift sounds differ but I'm not sure if it's the same with my headphones.
Has anyone heard of e global UK? They are offering the Samsung Odyssey plus at £519 with free shipping and no import tax to the UK..... I am seconds away from clicking the buy now but need some reassurance
does it work for skyrim vr?
Hi Tyriel, I know you touched on it, but how much better is the tracking than the original? Is it enough to justify an upgrade? I wasn’t really impressed with the original’s tracking.
I will not change it for the tracking, the difference is really minimal
@@Tyrielwood you can use oculus and vive controllers with wmr
@@fps_purge5736 I haven't heard of anyone using Oculus, only Vive, and he's planning to sell the Rift in any case.
What's the problem with classic batteries ? This cost 60 dollars to get the batteries you recommend man, too much expensive.
normal batteries are fine, but rechargeable usually have less voltage, you need at least 1.6, btw those are 30 dollars
Tyriel Wood +40 dollars for shipping and import
I bought a normal Lithium rechargeable batteries for my Lenovo controllers. Cuz they are both wmr controllers should be same. It works without much problem. So just go ahead and buy a regular rechargeable batteries. they are 1.2V instead of 1.5V but should work just fine.
unfortunately less voltage decrease latency..

Excellent review.
2: Can I play the VR games 4K like I did with the conventional PC games or there is not something like 4K with VR or at least 2K/3k resolution
3: Are this VR set, easy to learn to play, calibrate or fix do it's with bugs and problems like most of the Hardware and is it healthy to play for hours and hours or because of all of this thing up to your head and eyes, of course, it's dangerous or you can't play for a long time and more?
Your pc is good enough for vr definitely,
As for resolution, it's based on the headset itself, Samsung odyssey has 1440p resolution
Try Zeiss VR ONE PLUS
I actually prefer the OG Odyssey as far as the fit goes. The + had too much light leakage and did not fit my face- even using several different VR covers...
what cover did you use? for me the only way to get rid of the light bleeding was to use the velour part
@@ExtraAtEase I saw one guy on reddit had success using double covers, the second one just smooshed between headset and face.
moarsaur thanks. Done trying. Retuned Odyssey and sticking to Vive for now.
I have 1400 green queens going spare, should I buy 4 of these OR 1 Vive Pro?!? ;)
if you have that much money to spare buddy i recommend the pimax 5k+..
has great resolution and a veeery wide FOV for max immersion but a lil more SDE than this odyssey.
also the controllers arent out yet for the pimax soooo..
Anyone know?
did you try just to run again the setup from inside the wmr app?
How do you compare this today to the Pimax 5K+ and HP Reverb? Given that the HP reverb is delayed, I am considering just buying this one, you can get them cheaper.
Can you use other controllers like knuckle controllers with this headset?
with some hacks
My 10 year old Daughter wants this for Christmas. Can someone tell me if they think it will fit her?
xavierlx Children under the age of 13 probably shouldn’t use VR.
www.google.com/amp/s/www.livescience.com/amp/56346-are-virtual-reality-headsets-safe-for-kids.html
Does the Quest compare well to this?
No, the Quest is a portable solution with much less processing power. It will be awesome for portable VR but lets not forget it's just a fast as a good phone. The Odyssey is a full Windows Mixed Reality headset. It needs a PC but it's of course a much better experience than a phone cpu can give you.
If you use the original foam you will get very close to the screen and get a so big fov that the softness of the picture will not count. Use nvidia setting performace, wm reality setting automatic, advanced super sampling off, smooth mouvement off. This makes a pymax index in your samsung headset.

Id rather have the little bit of screen door effect, than to use the inside out tracking. Sure you get more freedom, but its just not as good as Rift or Vive tracking. Not yet. Its almost as bad as PSVR tracking imo. Plus the controllers felt so cheap. (had the first model)
tracking and hand tracking got better over time, but yep, not comparable to the rift or vive of course. I really believe inside out tracking will be the future, we just need more cameras :)
