Few things to keep in mind when watching this performance :
It's all live and done in one take.
They get to practice the song (together) only once, in the afternoon before the show gets recorded.
Karsu just came out of a 12 year relationship that ended in a painful manner, the song being about exactly that, gave her part that extra deep emotional connection.
Also for Karsu, her part was rewritten in Turkish and a few personal elements of her own story were added.
Belle is an idol for Karsu.
The music is also live.
Beste Zangers is a special show where different singers from different walks of life, celebrate their love for music and singing.
There is no competition, just and only honoring each others works in music.
This was the special evening of Duets, the one episode where the singers form duo's and perform songs they want to perform together, in all other episodes one of the singers gets the highlight and the other singers will perform just for that one singer, songs important to that highlighted singer, or songs performed by that highlighted singer.
Now back to the song here, a beautiful yet painful song famously performed by the amazing Lara Fabian.
The original song is not a duet, so we all were surprised to see and hear that they would perform this particular song, but wow.. did they deliver something powerful.. such an amazing version.
Sadly this is one of those songs that needs a singer who is still closely connected to the pain of a lost love/relationship because of the heavy emotional message it has.
But that was exactly what Karsu still was dealing with, she put her heart and soul into this song and let all the pain and anger pour out in her singing.
That made her part so incredibly powerful, impactful eventho most of us dont understand Turkish, we all could feel her pain right there and then, she's special, very special indeed.
Belle gave us her beautiful strong voice to open the song and then gave it all to Karsu, she knew when to step back and let Karsu shine.. that too shows how much respect and understanding there was/is between those two beautiful people.
Each season has a few of these outstanding performances but we rarely get something this powerful that instantly becomes a top 3 of all time song (on this show) but they did exactly that, they gave us one of the most beautiful songs ever on this show. (that's my personal opinion ofc)
