Thank you for this lovely reaction! What you may not have noticed is that Karsu sang in Turkish (her 'native' language). It is a beautiful song with darc lyricus about literally being sick when your heart is broken. Karsu sings it with deep intensity because she just got out of a long term relationship and she really sings these words for the one who hurt her. The Turkish translation was made especially for her.... here is the english translation: I don't dream anymore I don't smoke anymore I don't even have a history anymore I'm dirty without you I'm ugly without you I'm like an orphan in a dormitory I don't desire to live my life anymore My life had ended when you left I don't have a life anymore and even my bed Has transformed into a station platform When you left it I'm sick Completely sick Like when my mother goes out at night And leaves me alone with my own despair I'm sick Absolutely sick When are you coming we never know Where did you start again we never know And soon it'll be two years Since you came Like a rock Like a sin You've got me hooked I'm tired I'm exhausted Of pretending to be happy when they're here I drink every night But all the whiskey They all taste the same to me And all the boats are Carrying your flag I don't know where to go anymore You're everywhere I'm sick I'm completely sick I pour my blood into your body And I'm like a dead bird When you sleep I'm sick Absolutely sick You've denied me of all my songs You've drained me of all my words I was talented in everything before your skin This love had killed me and if this goes on I'll die all alone Near my radio like a stupid kid Listening my own singing voice I'm sick Completely sick Like when my mother goes out at night And leaves me alone with my own despair I'm sick That's right I'm sick You've denied me of all my songs You've drained me of all my words And my heart is completely sick Surrounded by barricades listening to you I'm sick
Here is the translation: I do not dream anymore I do not smoke anymore I do not have any story left I'm dirty without you I'm ugly without you Like an orphan in a dorm I do not want anymore To live my life My life ends when you leave I have no more life And even my bed Transforms into a station platform When you leave I am sick completely sick Like when my mother went out at night And that she left me alone with my despair I am sick perfectly ill You arrive, you never know when You go you never know where And it will be almost two years That you don't care I hold on to you like I hold on to a rock, a sin I'm tired of pretending to be happy They're here, I drink every night all whiskeys are the same to me your flag on all ships Where will I run to? you are everywhere I'm sick, sick all over I water your skin with my soul my heartless bird I'm sick while you sleep the perfect patient you took all the songs from me you plucked the words but i would do anything before your skin...
Another nice one is the performance of Belle Perez of the song “Strange Machines” Tom, you know that song ;-) Don’t get hooked on Dutch music hahaha like Epica, Within Temptation, Floor Jansen, Di-rect, The Gathering, Kensington etcetra…..
Powerhouse of a performance by two power women. "I don't know much about the background of the two performers here," - Belle has always loved this song and it's been on her playlist 'forever', but she never really got around to covering it. Then Karsu, who's a big fan of Belle, asked her to do this duet. Karsu had her section of lyrics translated for her to Turkish. She'd just come out of a long relationship that ended painfully, and she just yeets out all the emotions, all the pain, just lays it out on the table. Both of them do. And I'm not sure either could've done this magnificent performance without the other there to hold on to. Afterwards the host said that this was probably the most beautiful duet he's seen performed in ten years of doing this show. And - well, to me it's up there, along with Phantom of the Opera and Barcelona.
One of her best female friends wrote the lyrics in Turkish for Karsu. It was very emotional for Karsu as you see. Lots of the viewers had tears in their eyes during the performance. First the artist who performs tell us why they have chosen the song and the person who’m song they perfom tell us why they wrote that song or why a partical song has so much meaning for them. That’s what i like about Beste Zangers. Different styles of music get mixed. Music I never listen too get drawn my attention. That’s the power of music. I put the translation in English in the comments.
wow, that definitely explains so much about the emotions that were shown during this performance. Real, Genuine, and sincerely Heartfelt. Thanks for this!!
Hi Tom, didn't know this performance, this was great, thanks for reacting and sharing! - As you obviously don't know the version sung by Lara Fabian (that's not the original either, but an outstanding legandary emotional performance and has obviously been the inspiration for these two ladies..) you might watch this one as well, and get to know Lara herself, who has been an important source of inspiration for Dimash, for example... You'll even find a version with English subtitles so you might understand the lyrics, which is somewhat important especially for this song, Lara, too, had just escaped from a toxic relationship when singing this... (je suis malade means "I'm sick"...) Don't miss this (and discover more Lara, legend!)... And another really great (not just "good") artist and song I discovered recently is MISIA with "Ashitae" on THE FIRST TAKE. Misia originally wrote that song in 2011 to encourage people and give hope after the terrible east Japan earthquake. She now sung it again in regard of Covid. Never have heard and seen such an emotional and powerful performance (besides Lara singing "Je suis malade"...) - that despair and at the same time strong will to carry on and help others who may be affected even worse... and at the highest level of vocal artistry, at the end she gives us a 25 sec. belt which is a cry and a prayer and completely nuts, just unbelievable, and then silence with only her trying to get some air and trying to recompose herself, please respect that and let the video play out with that intentional silence which is an important part of the performance...don't miss this, outstanding by miles... btw. "Ashitae" means "To Tomorrow", beautiful deep lyrics as well ("let's sing together, even if we have no words, let's sing for tomorrow (...)" MISIA- Ashitae - THE FIRST TAKE ua-cam.com/video/jqd0wnW_HCI/v-deo.html Best regards from Germany
@@MichaelReiter , ok, it was without subs then... - did you watch my recommendation Misia? - If you liked Lara you should not miss this, top tier vocals...
@@Hundhammer No, it was the video with French and English subs. I watched Misia and I like her. I haven't seen many of her videos yet, just 2 others I think. I'm definitely gonna listen to more of her songs/covers.
@@MichaelReiter , well, then Tom has forgotten about it as he said he had no idea what the song is about... - yes Misia is a great singer! I also don't know too many of her songs yet as I discovered the channel THE FIRST TAKE only a couple of days ago, and Misia on it shortly after, so I watched maybe five songs from her own channel so far, but that FIRST TAKE was the most impressive one... - and they got quite a lot of amazing artists on that channel, another one I discovered there (and loved even more on her own channel) is "AiNA THE END"...one example: AiNA THE END - Rainbow ua-cam.com/video/H5O0Bku_Y6c/v-deo.html
The part song by Karsu is specially wrote for her in het language Turkish.. It's about buying sick mentally in a relationship and what it does whit you! I adore this sooo much, first time I saw it live on TV my tears couldn't stop.. Please watch intro's whit it, it makes so much sence.. You kan get them from paulH..
The song is about being sick about the love that is left. Karsu just had a break-up. The song touched her big time ans she brought that to stage too...
Hey Tom, You need to react on another song from Belle Perez from this program. She was the only one that performed a song from Anneke van Giersbergen : "Strange machines" And she is rocking out on this song!! Anke went totally in AWE!
This is a beautiful french song, a classic, but you should definitely check out Lara Fabian's live version next, WITH English subtitles (the lyrics are very important in that song). Mindblowing performance!
Bro i know as american you can mix european cultures. And karsu has so variarty of language on bente zangers. As my follow she sing: English, Deutch, Turkish, italian and French. By the way song in istanbul taksim eara very famous song. While grown up in there we hear that song a lot. But she wrote turkish lyrics for cover and damn you cant feel that good lyrics as acustic. Because her strong woman vibe is so stronge in chose of words and way of delivery. I recommend a few live performance in her Turkish. She is more acrobatic in Turkish. Like Cem Adrian
If you've seen this one already, DEFINITELY check out the version by Lara Fabian..Dimash looks up to her for a reason. One of my favorite performances ever by anyone..you'll see why.
Just to clarify, Lara made this song famous. She “owns” the song. I think Belle and Karsu did great, especially Karsu singing her bit in Turkish, but Lara sings with her whole soul!

I don't dream anymore
I don't smoke anymore
I don't even have a history anymore
I'm dirty without you
I'm ugly without you
I'm like an orphan in a dormitory
I don't desire to live my life anymore
My life had ended when you left
I don't have a life anymore and even my bed
Has transformed into a station platform
When you left it
I'm sick
Completely sick
Like when my mother goes out at night
And leaves me alone with my own despair
I'm sick
Absolutely sick
When are you coming we never know
Where did you start again we never know
And soon it'll be two years
Since you came
Like a rock
Like a sin
You've got me hooked
I'm tired I'm exhausted
Of pretending to be happy when they're here
I drink every night
But all the whiskey
They all taste the same to me
And all the boats are
Carrying your flag
I don't know where to go anymore
You're everywhere
I'm sick
I'm completely sick
I pour my blood into your body
And I'm like a dead bird
When you sleep
I'm sick
Absolutely sick
You've denied me of all my songs
You've drained me of all my words
I was talented in everything before your skin
This love had killed me
and if this goes on
I'll die all alone
Near my radio like a stupid kid
Listening my own singing voice
I'm sick
Completely sick
Like when my mother goes out at night
And leaves me alone with my own despair
I'm sick
That's right I'm sick
You've denied me of all my songs
You've drained me of all my words
And my heart is completely sick
Surrounded by barricades listening to you I'm sick

I have no more life

And that she left me alone with my despair
I am sick
perfectly ill
You arrive, you never know when

I hold on to you like I hold on to a rock, a sin
I'm tired of pretending to be happy

Where will I run to? you are everywhere

the perfect patient
you took all the songs from me
you plucked the words
but i would do anything
