Having the poor man’s version of your garage (996 C2) and 996 monoposto, is quickly making this one of my favorite channels. Awesome seeing all these rare beasts!
Saw one of these on my local craigslist. Some years ago. I don't remember if it was a 996R or 998R. If I didn't already have my 1996 916 monoposto I'd went for it. Great to see this one in original condition, with period correct mods.Did you get it in running condition before you sold it?
Congrats, that's a sweet example of an amazing bike. I think you should keep it and ride like it's meant to be ridden. And after you do, tell us how it compares riding wise to your SPS
I would be very interested to know the actual weight of this beauty! :) With so much carbon fiber parts, it should be well under 190kg dry i guess. Btw, I've noticed the headlight support bracket is made out of carbon fiber aswell . Amazing
Um did you never ask yourself why they only made 500??? i have a 996 and of all the bike i have ever owned this thing has come home in the back of a van three times!!!
The truth is, that for the 996R the numbered plate is not installed at all bikes. The carbon fairing and the tail are stock parts. Whereas the air intakes should be in plastic.

Justin Mckeown ha! Thank you! You have been bitten as well by the “996 bug”! 😅😂
The Italian Pursuit the novelty of matching 996’s is just too hard to pass up.
I have a 996 C2 as well. And recently added a 916.
What a fantastic machine. I can't wait to hear it run and to get your initial impressions. Keep up the good work.
Very cool bike. Rare is just icing on the cake.
Holy grail. Great find!
I think so too!
I feel a "carbon fibre" drinking game coming on! Beautiful bike 😍

By the way if you do your research they actually produced 700 R models in 2001. First they made 375 units and then 325.
Really? I thought 500! Can you link the info please? I always want to learn more! :)
This is correct there’s a British collector and UA-camr that got the specific information directly from Ducati verifying the 700 plus number.

@@thekingmezger As reasons go, that’s not a bad one. I hope you got to ride it at least once. 🙈
It is not a 996R, you don’t have the number plate
