That's what a cover should be--I hate the ones that just basically reproduce the original. A great cover takes a song and shows it in a whole new way without diminishing the original. It will make you see things in the song you didn't know were there. Disturbed's "Sound of Silence" is another, as well as "Hurt" by Johnny Cash. And rarely an artist can cover themselves and bring out a whole new view, like Clapton did with "Layla."
@@grumpyotter Not as original of a copy as this but The Smithereens' version is my favorite song of all time. Saw them at the State Theater in Fairfax VA before Pat D passed. Started with just Pat on the acoustic and then the band erupted with the G-A riff. Makes the hair on my arm stand up every time I think about that show.
There never will be another 3 piece band that was one unit like Rush. So glad I saw them 3 times in the 70's and once in the 80's. Had the incredible luck to meet them all.
3:37 Three best friends and soulmates. Life goals. I can't begin to imagine how Alex and Geddy are devastated by the loss of Neil given it hurts me so much, and I never met the man other than via his music since 79 when I was 12 years old.
i was never a fan but i get what you are saying. there is some music and the artists who create it and it accompanies you throughout your life in the good and bad times. when these people leave, it hurts like a bitch. Even though, Rush's music never spoke to me, I appreciated their musicianship. Neil was one of the very best drummers to ever play the instrument. Gone far too soon
This just made my week. One of the best rock songs, by one of the best rock groups covered by absolute legends. This version is so much better than the studio recording they did of this. F-ing epic
I'm a visiting Who fan. I knew these guys in Rush had great vision and taste! They found inspiration in The Who, and continued to deliver Rock music that communicates intelligence and musical excellence. Rush was a powerful band that developed their own style, founded in technical proficiency that really drove some good tunes. They were immensely popular and not chaotic, so I'd say they were quite distant from Punk, occupying a unique space as the most disciplined-sounding band inspired by The Who.
RUSH ROCKS IT THOROUGHLY whether their doing their OWN material or a Cover-song from another band! Whatever they do,you can guarantee it's gonna ROCK!!!
Pete used SG Specials as his main stage guitars back in the day - a model with 2 P90 single coil pickups and the batwing pickguard, not humbuckers like the one Alex is using here. You'll see Pete with one in the Rolling Stones Rock n' Roll Circus version of A Quick One (although that might be an SG Jr. now that I think about it), at Woodstock, the 1970 Isle of Wight concert, etc. The SG Specials were a lot more "jangly" than an SG Standard due to the P90s in the Special vs. the humbuckers in the Standards (and Customs).
Lifeson and Lee have been friends since they were about 14 and it shows. Very few bands grew up as friends and they still hang out together, it's a great thing!
Rush band since 1976 never forget the first time I heard all the world's a stage drum solo I was playing Tupperware drums with Wooden Spoons and finally at 13 I got my first drum kit with huge Zildjan cymbal. Neil was my idol. The music world has lost its absolute best.
It's great to have witnessed both bands, The Who and Rush play this song live. Not at the same time of course but you know what I mean. What a time to be alive!!
Rush really did a number on their feedback album. It’s one of my more recent favorites albums by them and their unique twist to all of the songs are perfect
Just need to put this out in the ether. I love these guys. Neil is in the pantheon of drum gods. RIP. Alex kills. And there will never be anyone with Geddy's presence on the mic/bass; he brings band geek to an unachievable level. One of the most dynamic rock trios of all time.
This was in 2004 . 13 years ago. His voice was still good, then. I noticed the last few tours, his voice seemed pretty shot, though. Love Geddy, though.
Geddy usually sounds best when he's singing songs at the time they were written and released. All our voices change over the years. He was struggling in later years to sing By-Tor. His voice is terrific on the Fly By Night album, but huge challenge to sing those songs in the way they were meant to be sung 25 years later.
If RUSH covers you, you're getting 100% quality.
Yep!
Alex, Getty and Neil Layin’ it on down!
Rest in peace Neil Peart
Peart playing Moon is like DaVinci drawing a Picasso, fucking brilliant.

Yeah, Peart nailed it from the first beat! Going into this video that is what I expected from Neil.

My favorite band covering my favorite Who song. I'm in heaven !!!!!!!!!!!!1
Great cover. Worthy.
Big Who fan here. Absolutely love this cover. These guys rock. Respect.
Wish the audio was more clear tho. But its live it is what it is

Rush and The who
This is Classic Music
Rock n rooolll foreverrr
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
I find it oddly satisfying that all three happened to be fans of The Who. They simply were destined to be a band together
everyone was a fan of the who. not rare to be a fan of all the british invasion bands!
Probably the only band with the balls and proficiency to match the Who for sound and musicianship
Idk about matching The Who’s sound but it’s a damn good cover. Rush rocks.
Yes,very ambitious undertaking
Nonsense
@@brandonisebell5918 How? Genuinely asking because I have no idea how you could possibly reach that conclusion.

Love seeing Alex playing that BEAUTIFUL Gibson SG!!!!!!!! RUSH ALWAYS!!! RIP Neil Peart! RIP John Entwistle! RIP Keith Moon!
Hell yea why didn't I know that Lifeson could harmonize so solidly
Not his strength, but Geddy and Neil would have insisted.
It's a shame they didn't do it more
Lifeson is a monster player with innovative chord voicings !
THE WHO !!! RUSH does a great job paying tribute. It sounds great.
Just a good time listening to 3 guys playing the shit out of an old school Who tune...awesome.
THIS is how you cover the Who plain and simple. No one else even comes close to paying proper homage to the kings of Maximum R&B.
Lifeson can play lead while playing rhythm. Amazing talent!
I think his lead is great, but it’s also because he is able to blend it with the amazing bass guitar.
This just put me in a good mood .
You can tell they love that track, they were all vibin' the who.
Neil Peart playing Keith Moon. The 2 best drummers ever for entirely different reasons
So true, and you could add John Bohnam for another entirely different reason
Bill Ward would have a say in this debate.

Jonathan Taylor It is nicely done...
He's used that Vibrola-equipped SG pretty consistently since at least the Vapor Trails tour to play Roll the Bones.
