Jonghyun made the lyrics thinking about the moon, 6.23 is the date of a super moon in the year that he wrote. It's basically a love letter to the moon itself, he wanted to express the anguish of love something you can't reach. Also, Selene is a god related to the moon in the greek mythology. Since 2013, the moon has been connected to Jonghyun bc he would constantly wrote about or mention it

Selene 6.23 is technically NOT a b-side. it's the title track of the Misconception of us album, but it didn't have an MV. they DID promote it in music shows. Jonghyun was inspired to write this during the super moon that was on June 23rd, hence the name.

Selene 6.23 is a very personal song by Jonghyun. It happened when he was watching a full moon in June 23th, a "super-moon", hence the numbers of the date with the title.Selene 6.23 quickly reached the #1 spots on music charts like Olleh Music, Mnet, Bugs and Naver Music. The Hangul of this song title translates into "The Distance Between Us" in English, while "Selene" means "moon" in Greek, coming from the name of an ancient lunar goddess. He was insipired by the moon, the members and the fandom as muse, and and wrote the lyrics on the spot. The draft is even now on Exhibition at SHINee section in SM. It shows his exceptional skills in song writing, even though the draft looks like a scratch from a school book. Later in August that year the song was released with their album, and the arrangement assisted by Yiruma. And SHINee's vocals are so individually unique, but sooo magical together!! This song is very emotional to SHINee hyungs up untill today.

It's nice to see you're starting to actually appreciate shinee's vocals especially Jonghyun's! Means a lot because I feel like his vocals are so underrated nowadays as new kpop stans tend to listen less to those 2nd gen b-sides. Fun fact about the title, in English it refers to the moon with the word Selene (bc that’s what Romans would call the personification of the moon as a goddess) and 6.23 refers to the date bc jonghyun was inspired by a summer moon. In Korean it literally translates to: the distance between you and me. So it began as a song for the moon but later jonghyun said it was a song for international shawols, because of the distance between us:(
