    Very good explanation of the use of the wedgie sled. I was fortunate to meet Jerry Bennet last fall at the Segmented Woodturners Symposium outside Chicago. He is a very talented turner and very generous with the information about segmented turning. One thing to keep in mind with your stop block, if you change saw blades, you may need to recalibrate it.

      That is very true Greg, I should have mentioned that in the video. I only use the thin kerf blade for all of my segments. I figure over time less wast, even though it may not be much. I have not had the pleasure to meet Jerry Bennet in-person, but I have had a couple of e-mail correspondence over the years and he always offers up some great advice. Thanks for watching.

    Excellent video! This looks like the most precise way to cut segments that ive ever seen. I got into turning segmented bowls and vase's a couple years ago but I got frustrated and haven't turned on the lathe since (my wife likes to say that me and the lathe aren't on speaking terms right now.) But i now realize that my methods were all wrong! I use to flip the boards every other cut and also use to glue up my rings in half sections, but after watching this, it definitely makes sense as to why my rings were always off! I love your stop block jig and how you put the trim on the insert plate. That was genius! Thank you for sharing this awesome video. Seeing how accurate your rings turned out motivates me to try it out again!

      @@MadNerdWorkshop If you have the incra miter why use this? I have the miter and the 3000se and my segments are perfect right off the saw

    Excellent video no doubt, for those who know what he's talking about. For those who don't, you have no clue, practically until he shows his end-result. Would it be that difficult to mention the type of segment in the title or similar?

      Great idea, Thank you. I made a change that I hope clears it up a little.

    I'm just about to break into making segmented bowls and the first thing I'll do is make a wedgie sled. Some people build their sleds with two t-tracks, rather than the arced cuts that you have on yours. Do you see any advantage or disadvantage to that? I guess you could make wider segments????

      @MadNerdWorkshop  Рік тому +1

      yes I will be making a new one like that. You can do wider segments with that one. Other than that, they both will do about the same thing.
