I have been getting into .45 for about the last year or so. Ive been a 9mm guy since i turned 21 and started shooting centerfire handguns. I was always told 9mm was just as good, but using my common sense i have srated to question that. Just looking at the expansion on my carry loads 9mm hst 124 plus p expands to .60, and my handloaded 9mm 115gr xtp wxpands to about .46 caliber.... my .45 win ranger plus p 45 expands to 1.02", and even bulk pack rem hps expand to .70-.75 cal. Just using common sense would tell me that that extra expansion would make a difference. Then i have noticed on my 6" steel plates, even when im shooting basic fmj.. both9mm and .45 with the exact same energy numbers, 45 moves the plates noticibly more. Im not sure if its momentum or what but theoretically with the 2 rds having the same energy... they should move the plate the same... but they dont. Im hopefully going to start loading some carry ammo for my .45 and play around with that. Ive got a decent start on my handloaded 9mm hp stock so its time for something different.

@corycarlson8712 with the plates, it is inertia that causes the 45 to swing them more. 9 is good, but I agree with your examples (which makes 45 better).Thank you for watching.
