Dear Uncle D, Just acquired this lantern at a garage sale, and thanks to your video I now no how to repair it, should it need work. Your production coupled with your voice and photography skills I find very relaxing and a pleasure to watch!! Great job, and thanks again. Blessings from New Rochelle N.Y.
Super presentation and job well done ... I was amazed that you did not mention the check valve, pump assembly and generator .. maybe they were in order at this time.... some fuel present in the tank maybe when you did the work .. I enjoyed this clip
Gracias , me hubiera gustado ver la lampara funcionando antes de la reparación para ver el problema que causaba el empaque dañado. Su explicación muy eficiente .
At 3:23 if you were to pump it up would liquid fuel spray out? I’m having no issue with pressure but fuel maybe as the lantern won’t start. Ive already cleaned all the gunk out of the tank and fixed the check valve pump assembly. My o ring is fine but I don’t have that black piece on my pickup tube like yours.
Hi. Thank you for this video. It is very clear. I just bought a Coleman 285 700t lantern at a discounted price. First time buying this. When i got home, I realize that the two 'lamp shades' that should be at the end of each of the pipes do not come with the lantern. Is there a 'fix' around this? I was very excited to have acquired this and want to use it but I am afraid to use it as is.
Sounds like it needs mantles. It uses the Coleman #21 mantles. They come in either string tie or Insta-Clip. Once you install them, you just have to burn them before using it.
@@GBCProductions64 Thank you very much. will look them up on Amazon. By 'burning them before using them', you mean I need to attach it to the lantern and light it as I normally would?
Many people recommend vinegar as a rust remover. Disassemble and fill it up completely with vinegar. Let sit for a day or two and then flush thoroughly with soap and water. Any bare metal will likely flash rust. Almost immediately. It will be fine as long as there's no loose rust or flakes floating around. Do some research because there are many methods on rust removal/conversion on the Internet.

Ive had one doing the same thing and its drove me nuts trying to figure it out. Thank You.
Perfect result, job well done.
Nice job.🇺🇲
Thank you for sharing, after all my issue was not the generator bit switch.
I wish you had stated what size O-ring you used.
Excellent tutorial. Do you have any stove repairs? I looked but might have missed it. Thanks
How did you install the spark ignitor
Do you know the size of the O-ring? Then I can order the same one at a online spare parts and tools shop.

Once you attach them to the lantern, take a match and burn them until they turn to ash. Then light the lantern as you normally would.
