Dear Oputapanel, one thing that has bedeviled Nigeria and most of Black Africa is amnesia and lack of record keeping. Politicians steal and lie with the full confidence that the people will forget and never hold them accountable.Things are currently done in Nigeria without recourse to history. You have done a wondrous thing having preserved and made this video public for all to see. Beginning of wisdom is knowing what to say and what to do in order to stay alive in the land of the living, enjoying your God's given grace Diya and others.
Whatever was been done, kneeling down before Abacha to beg for his life was the wisest thing to do. Those who felt to big and too proud to do so are no more. Kudos to Gen Diya
@@awkuzumfb9985 the important question is if you were in his place what would you do? I am not justifyt what he did but what would you do. He was actually part of the coup wittingly or unwittingly.

Dear Oputa Panel, the record keeping is wonderful. One things Diya failed is lying in Oputa Panel to gain something. Major Fadipe participated in the coup and said the truth. Army is one of the criminally intelligent society. Anyways, we need someone like Major Fadipe as CSA of this country not Ribado.

Let me be frank with you, I like the style of General Diya's response. If not for his responses he could have been dead earlier than his actual time. God shall continue to grant our gallant heroes eternal rest.
To partake or plan a coup is to gamble with 1's life in order to seize power. You should have accepted the possibility that it'd end up with you tied in front of a firing squad. If he could do the crime, then he shouldn't have chickened out when it was time to pay the price. The man was pathetic. The only person i respected among them was his poor CSO, Major Seun Fadipe, whom he conscripted a few weeks before they were caught. He was the only one with integrity. He owned up, told the truth knowing that he was agreeing too a death sentence in order to save his surbodinates, who didn't know that they were participating in a coup.
In spite of the drama, one thing that strikes me is how fortunes were reversed here. Apparently, General Diya's life seemed to be in the hands of General Abacha, who had all the powers human beings could have imagined. But it was not to be. God was in control of everything. General Abacha was the one that was to die, and General Diya lives up till today.
It was a pure deceit to smell & imprisoned Gen Diya by dictator Gen Abacha. Farida Waziri recent book launched in Abuja said they was nothing like coup
Unfortunately anything Diya says can only be taken with a pinch of salt because he blatantly lied about begging Abacha so what else was he lying about.
You and those who thumbed you up would have done worse if you find yourselves in one tenth of what Diya went through, he was only saving face and remember too, that the tape could have been doctored by Mustapha and his intelligence goons.
In a dramatic statement at the outset of the trial, General Diya asserted that he had been entrapped by another officer close to General Abacha, Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi, who approached him with the idea of mounting a coup. Given the explosive nature of the charge, the government then closed the trial to the public The head of the military tribunal, General Victor Malu, the former commander of the West African regional peacekeeping force ECOMOG, responding to Lieutenant General Diya's defence that people at the very top framed him, said it was not necessary to know who had initiated the conspiracy. He noted that all Lieutenant General Diya had to do was prove that he had not been part of the plot at any stage. My question is why gen. Bamaiyi who initiated the coup was not tried? It was all a setup to kill Diya but God saved his life, those of you blaming Diya cannot accept it openly that you are planning to overthrow/kill a head of State.
In addition, Gen Bisala was the instigator of Dimka's Coup. He was named by Dimka at the Tribunal. There is no DEAD person that is better than another in the grave except the one who was smart enough to receive Jesus Christ before death for He alone is the way (to heaven), the truth and the LIFE. Otherwise, every dead person is the same- they will ALL take part of the SECOND (not the FIRST) resurrection which means they are ALL doomed Revelation 20:5,6; John 5:28,29. What we often call smartness unless it brings us to God is foolishness to God 1 Corinthians 1:18-25.
Foolish talk! Where is Nzogwu etc? Unless they received Jesus Christ while on this planet, they will take part in the SECOND (not FIRST) resurrection which means they are doomed forever despite their so called toughness Revelation 20:5,6; John 5:28,29.
The whole video hardly show a strong evidence, despite Gen Diya knelt down or receive tissues. For the fact that we could not hear the discussion between Gen Diya and Gen Abacha the evidence in this case is tainted and in my opinion not admissible. Possibly Diya was pleading on behalf of the other Generals as he said.
Shame to Nigeria, it was a plot to get rid of senior officers from the south but God torpedoed them Diya bravo you outlived your enemies, the lawyer also is making a fool of himself. Playing the comedian. General Diya I thank God for you
Not really interested in this mockery of justice, except to suggest that the Nigerian Justice System rethink their use of “ my Lord” while addressing the Judge because it arrogates him/her above the maxim that no one is above the law. This old borrowed British Concept is outdated. What about “your Honor”
My daddy may you live long sir the man of his word. The man who likes telling the Truth. My late father always talks about you before he died that you are a good brother to him. One of the old Nigeria leader who never play dirty game and went back to politics like other's
iin all honesty the footage shows nothing, the quality is poor and thus only those in attendance might be able to hear what diya and abacha were discussing (even that is doubtful)...diya can argue that he was saying a lot of other things and not pleading for his own life....also i don't see why realising the footage was necessary, like i don't know what it adds or subtracts from the discussion or case at hand...
I have seen nothing in Nigerian Polities. its just rule by force. those who are in the power there just representing them self. they loved the grown and they don 't want to for us.
Was this tribunal convened in respect of human rights violation? Was that the violation of the rights of the Nigerian citizenry or for the purpose of humiliating General Diya? What does the video evidence prove? What an arrant nonsense and a waste of Nigeria’s resources. The late Justice Oputa should have turned down the appointment. This video paints the nation and its judicial system in bad light.
If he only knew that Abacha will go the way God made him go... he would have just excused himself completely from the attempt of any coup.... Maybe by so doing, he would have ruled.
because the inner circle knew abacha was terminally ill, they want to remove Diya , the only way was to rope him in on a coup, that was why Bamayi told him all service chief and GOC were involved,
what is fanatical about me; the fact that i said no one should not kneel? Alhamdulillah. i do not live in nigeria. i am old enough to be your father and i will not accept kneeling or prostration from you because it will be unnecessary. I'm i still a fanatic allowing you to keep your human dignity and honor? come on.

But not in public nao, when my army friend needs my help in free town sierra leones far back 2001 with uniform he knelt down beggin me and he said because of condition that's why he kneel down for me
There is no DEAD person that is better than another in the grave except the one who was smart enough to receive Jesus Christ before death for He alone is the way (to heaven), the truth and the LIFE.
General Diya I thank God for you
Diya actually showed here that he is THE REAL LAWYER!
Kneeling down saved his life which is the ultimate goal in every situation.
Did Abacha knew Diya was going to cry? why was the tissue paper by the side of Abacha?
It was a coincidence I guess
Just in case ohh
The Lawyer is a friggin bigot.
And what are you? A hybrid bigot?
Not really interested in this mockery of justice, except to suggest that the Nigerian Justice System rethink their use of “ my Lord” while addressing the Judge because it arrogates him/her above the maxim that no one is above the law. This old borrowed British Concept is outdated. What about “your Honor”
Their intention to played the tape was to disgraced Gen. Diya......
I am not sure the Yorubas will ever learn.
This lawyer is so hollow and empty
Ok brilliant man.
Wait a minute...why is this video "leaked" if all those media mics were there?
Akin Oyedele because Nigeria might not want the world to see it
My daddy may you live long sir the man of his word. The man who likes telling the Truth. My late father always talks about you before he died that you are a good brother to him. One of the old Nigeria leader who never play dirty game and went back to politics like other's
One is under our feet, the other is talking on top!
"Jesus himself wept "
Hilarious answer. Intelligent !!!
iin all honesty the footage shows nothing, the quality is poor and thus only those in attendance might be able to hear what diya and abacha were discussing (even that is doubtful)...diya can argue that he was saying a lot of other things and not pleading for his own life....also i don't see why realising the footage was necessary, like i don't know what it adds or subtracts from the discussion or case at hand...
what is wrong with plotting to over throw Abacha
I have seen nothing in Nigerian Polities. its just rule by force. those who are in the power there just representing them self. they loved the grown and they don 't want to for us.
What is.nicki minajs name doing on the microphone?
Minaj used to be a tv station when we were growing up, not sure if they still exit. Oh it’s not the nicki minaj the world knows.
Rule in the midst of Bamaiyi, mustapha, sabo and magashi? Lmao they will overthrow him the next day.
because the inner circle knew abacha was terminally ill, they want to remove Diya , the only way was to rope him in on a coup, that was why Bamayi told him all service chief and GOC were involved,
Abacha was nice... Actually offering him tissues
And also pardon him
ashikodi monye Abacha had pity on the cry- baby. Shame that this coward was a general
A very smart lawyer
Well, professionally the video should be played. No evidence should be left out at all. But Nigeria is such a dump country
what is fanatical about me; the fact that i said no one should not kneel? Alhamdulillah. i do not live in nigeria. i am old enough to be your father and i will not accept kneeling or prostration from you because it will be unnecessary. I'm i still a fanatic allowing you to keep your human dignity and honor? come on.
Is this a reconciliation or a trial?
