All these of listening and watching this... what a great performance. I can just imagine a 10 year old listening to this song and being struck by the almost eternal pathos of it. A 'for the first time in my life-!" revelation after her first years of pop-radio. Then distilling it down to the form... this purest form...
One of the great, more obscure Beatles (Lennon) songs, one that always seemed to haunt me in its straightforward simplicity. Excellent treatment, and the brilliant John Leventhal accompanying Rosanne next to her.

John Leventhal is tight on guitar and Rosanne Cash on bending notes. Lovely. I see John Leventhal connection with Rosanne Cash and Shawn Colvin. Shawn Colvin also covers this. Then also in duet with Mary Chapin Carpenter. Really different narrative sensibility. So interesting. (Dramaturgy?) I appreciate a search engine now.
