On the Wrist, from off the Cuff: Yema - Rallygraf, Affordable and Stylish Motorsports Meca-Quartz

- On this episode we take a look at another exciting and affordable release from French watch making brand Yema. Although the brand is mostly known for their excellent vintage reissue divers, they actually have quite a history in aerospace, aviation, and motorsports because of this connection, they also have a bevy of vintage inspired chronographs available in their line up. This particular model is a fine example of the classic rally inspired reverse panda dial aesthetic. I've see watches with these fun little Seiko Meca-Quartz movement from brands with zero heritage adding hefty markups, so it's really refreshing to see a brand with some actual lineage like Yema offer one at such a fair price. Let me know what you all think in the comments below, thanks guys!

The watch featured actually turned out to be their Blue Tarmac variation, thanks!
the blue tarmac version looks incredible.
Think i like the sunburst effect on this over the matt black panda version. Very intrigued about the real life color of that dial.
Knew it hehe! Still a great color though!
Yeah I was gonna say that actually the blue model whereas they have a reverse panda that's actually black.
I just got the Panda dial in mesh and I’m loving it, got it for $296, I’m wearing this more than my $$$$ chrono watches. It will be my everyday watch.
P M B - How did it go? Did you like the Rallygraf watch?
P M B - Sucks you had to go through that with Yema, but their CS is very good, you should ask for extras like watch roll or extra straps. Yes me as well, I just recently purchase a GMT watch to complete my 5 watch collection. I was trying to buy the Yema GMT pepsi and just couldn’t justify the price and settle for the LeJour Seacolt GMT(eta2836) for $700 on ebay, I heard it’s tied to yema before as a sub brand.
Where did you buy it?
Very striking piece and clearly a lot of value for money. Yema has some great offerings
I've always considered Yema to be the Euro Seiko. Base model bargains right through to genuine grail pieces
Too bad seiko isn't that kind of brand anymore. Now they are way overpriced for what they offer.
@@PyleHD Seiko actually owned Yema for a period of time. Now Yema is independent l owned but still use some Seiko movements on some of their more affordable watches.
I just ordered myself the Rallye, Mario Andretti. to be sent out in April,,,I cant wait!!!; )
Waiting for mine...😎
Just got the quartz white dial with blue sub dials and blue chapter ring. It is gorgeous and the mesh bracelet is easily adjustable and gorgeous! I love this watch! It’s my first Yema but won’t be my last!! Thanks for your review!
Just ordered the BALTIC Aquaschaphe Blue Dial version (arriving next week). YEMA is another great French Brand (made in France). Probably going to be ordering this model from YEMA and maybe another (Superman Heritage Quartz). I also just purchased an inexpensive SALT watch (French Brand but made in Hong Kong, but still very nice quality for the money). Nice to add a new Country to my large collection from all over the world.
Great review!
I agree. The Yema Rallygraf is mecha quartz with actual heritage. So it has a big advantage over other micro brands with mecha quartz movement. The dial of this watch is also nice. I ended up ordering the Yema Rallygraf Brown Panda and I like the added vertical texture on the brown sundials. Too bad this watch isn't being talked about in UA-cam but other microbrands with mecha quartz get a lot of UA-cam reviews.
I love that they chose not to show the "quartz tick" with this meca and instead show a 24hr time. Will it display a dual time?. I think I'm going to buy one.
This! I was going to buy the Zodiac grand rally, but the tick putt me off.
Mineral crystal and outer AR coating in my opinion is crazy. They could have just poped in a plexi at a fraction of the price. I would have even paid more for a sapphire version.
Totally agree. Should offer sapphire. AR coating is inside, btw.
,,,,I just picked Up my 2'nd Yema RallyGraf, and I'm loving it!,,,,my 1'st was the Yema RallyGraf "AutoBianchi", which is just a Spectacular Watch that Scream's,,,,"Put the Pedal to the Metal!,,,my 2'nd RallyGraf is the "Glace II", and Round's out my Racer collection. I took advantage of Yema's "Black Friday" sale picking up the "Glace 2" Box-set for $179.00 Buck's USD+ 10% off!, this price would be Fantastic for the Watch alone, but for Yema to Include Two Strap's for a Set of one Perforated Leather "Rally" strap, and one Perforated Rubber is a Real Plus!,. These vintage Inspired 'Racer's' are destined to become Sought after Timepiece's!,,,,,,So get 'em while You can!,. Cheer's, Andy.
Wow I think that's great that you mentioned the date because I didn't even notice it until you mentioned it makes it seem like a really good place for them to have put it in my opinion
Are you sure this isn't the blue version of the Rallygraf? Yema makes a black reverse panda and a blue reverse panda.
I am just preparing my own review of the Panda dial version of this watch. I have been totally blown away by it, and although I don't normally like chronograph watches, I love this one. Just a shame they use sapphire
Mine came with a detached start/stop chronograph pusher. Spoke with yema and I will be getting my watch back real soon. Great customer service, just sucks that I cant wear my watch.
That's the "Blue Tarmac" dial. It looks navy blue, though only at certain angles, because it is, and it's why they're pairing it with the blue strap. I think it's their best reverse panda. Their black version does in fact look black.
Went looking for a diver and came away with the original panda version, looks fantastic. 15% off on the Yema site at the moment.
Same, but grey dial for me. That zero-g looks nice as well 👍
@@joshuagannon7644 loving the blue one.
For the $$$ they are hard to beat! Another good retro chrono is the Zodiac Grandrally.
I had some credit from buying previous watches, so ordered one in white brown Maca Quartz, with the $100 off, worth the moneey haven't used it once. Bought it more for a conversation and wear now and then. From what I can tell good watch, don't buy the mesh uncomfortable but may need to resize again.
Beautifully made and accessibly priced. Gonna get my hands on one!
Yes! - I have taken the plunge on this Blue Tarmac - shipping in the next couple weeks. Really stunning piece and Yema includes some nifty accessories.
@@speedyfreak9266 got mine in about 3 weeks really quick from France to Singapore. Mine is the panda with bracelet. Loving it! :) Enjoy your blue tarmac when it arrives!
Great review, thanks. I can't for the life of me decide on the panda or reverse panda.
Which one did you end up getting?
@@DutchBulldog I guess none.
My cart literally went back and forth between all the colors 😂 Went with the Panda though
I'm sold. This was recommended to me from a friend after I mentioned I've never had a chrono and was probably going to get a 200. Seiko just to see if I even liked a chrono instead of going all in on an automatic for a few thou..
Very nice watch and review. I love Yema.
It is unfortunate that this movement, which is otherwise great, has the most useless complication known to man : the 24hours subdial. How often one struggles to figure out if it's 11pm or 11am ? ;)
I agree, the 24 hour subdial is kind of useless much like the sun and moon complication is (not the moon phase which many also consider a useless complication).
Thanks for the review, it's pretty thorough and informative. It's a cracking watch for the price.
Cracking view and very helpful. There's not much info on the internet about these watches.
I’ve been curious about this model; glad to see your review on it. How do you think it compares to the Dan Henry mechaquartz offerings?
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with Dan Henry timepieces, I do enjoy their designs though and find their pricing to be quite fair. I would say that to me, Yema holds a bit more brand cache, which helps put them on my radar.
I was on the look out for a mecha-quartz. I've also thought long and hard on the Dan Henry and it has been on my shopping cart for a few months already. Till I saw this video, went to their website and immediately fell in love with the Brown Panda. I did some researching (hard to do since it is not very popular among UA-camrs) and after that pulled the trigger on the Rallygraf. I still think the Dan Henry is also nice but what made me go for the Yema Rallygraf was that the brand itself has history. And the Rallye (a model which the Rallygraf drew inspiration from) also has some actual racing history.
@@cedricduyongco I would love to know, how you’re enjoying the Rallygraf!
@@dr.possible2399 Honestly, it's lost in my rotation. After the honeymoon phase the watch seldom gets worn. I really seldom wear quartz watches that is why it got lost in the rotation, but I do love the watch. Might wear it again since you reminded me of it. It's more of me having too many watches than me not loving the watch. 😁 Now I want to get the Mario Andretti Mecha Quartz Rallygraf however it seems to be out of stock. ☹️
@@cedricduyongco I appreciate your response! Thank you a ton for your honesty! I had a hard time deciding between the Dan Henry, Yema and Orient’s Panda, but I’m more than determined to get the Orient! Cheers mate!
Like the bi-compax layout, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. No running seconds - so how do you know when the battery is dying/dead? It's not a GMT, so all the 24-hour hand does is save you from having to look outside. Completely pointless. Either a multi-hour counter for the chrono or a running seconds would've been far more useful. Using a multi-hour hand also would allow for a .5 hour marker, and then the minute sub-dial could be reduced from 60 to 30 minutes, making it actually legible.
I feel you. It all goes along with this Seiko VK64 movement which is extremely popular in meca-quartz watches so much so that it's hard to find a good meca without that useless register.
Its the function of vk63. It help with set up the date i think. Tbh you just ask for a gmt chrono for $340. Bit much there mate
Yema confirmed to me that this video shows the blue version of the Rallygraf on a non-Yema blue strap. Odd that the video doesn't mention that, no? Still a nice watch, though.
Odd, they would confirm that to you, considering they sent the watch to me for review and never mentioned it.
@@AverageBros Fair point. Not sure. I did a computer chat with one of the Yema reps and sent him a link to your video. He confirmed it was the "Blue Tarmac" version of the Rallygraf, and wrote, "We're very familiar with that video and this is definitely the blue version."
@@aaronmunro5818 yeah, they're a small company, and actually meant to send the Panda dial, so I'm not surprised, that they wouldn't know what they sent me. The strap is from them though, it has their signed buckle, I didn't change anything. The dial being blue, I could see that but when I looked at the strap style, I saw that it more closely resembled what they equipped the black reverse panda dial with, so I figured that must be it, plus the photos on their site show a charcoal sunburst on the page for the black unit.
@@AverageBros ,,,,either Way its a Stunning 'Racer' that's as Easy on the Pocketbook as it is on the Eye's!
That date at the 6 is much better than at the 4 for us lefties.
Look at the minute hand when he resets the watch. Jumps forward each time. Very common problem and now I’m wondering if these movements always do that. Bought to other watches with a Seiko vk63 movement and they both do it.
Can you get the Superman Heritage in? Would love to see your take on the smaller size.
I'll see what I can do, thanks.
Fantastic daily wear watch. I only wish it had better lume.
did the minute hand just unintentionally advanced by 1 minute when you reset the chronograph at 3:15?
I have the Blue Rallygraf Tarmac on mesh
I did not see the nice strap as an option at the online shop. where did you get it?
Have the grey Tarmac coming
Let us know how you like it!
Thanks for review
At first, I thought that 24-hour sub-dial was a GMT feature... but if it just tells the time in military hours I find that not very useful Also I am disappointed there is no running seconds hand. I do like the Meca-Quartz movement, but for quartz, I prefer the UHF movement from Bulova.
Humanfactor I agree! Either Seiko replaces that useless 24-hr dial or allow it to be set independently for a 2nd time zone. I wish more micro brands used the Ronda 5021.D movement: running seconds and 30-min sundials.
But running seconds show that the watch ticks.
@@trevbarlow9719 Yeah, I agree, there is the large second hand for the running seconds of the Chronograph, but I would like to see a sub-dial with a running seconds hand (not chronograph related)
,,,,,fantastic Review there 'Bros'!, Is there any chance of Seeing one for the 'Marchand Classic Driver Chrono,.'?,,,It's another competitively Priced European "Meca-Quartz" Micro,. that Hail's the U.K., it's a real Beauty!, and a Great addition to anyone's "Racer" line-up!.
Was the strap custom one?
Would you have any idea on how to reset the minute subdial? its not returning to 0 even when i reset the chrono
Anyone know how to contact yema customer support,? I can't find an email. Id be more than happy to pay extra for a sapphire crystal
Does anyone know what custom duty fees are due on Yema watches? Having trouble figuring out any additional charges to Florida.
If only the chronographs would have been cirkular, that would have been perfect.
It's a "Rallygraf" Rally = car racing, Hence the dashboard sub dials.
@@PepRex Daytona is a rallychrono too, Speedmaster was too. Tag Heuer Chronos too! And they are circular.
@@grimmer2005 Boring! the square looks miles better!!
How do you set the watch precisely without a second hand.
Easy, whenever you pull out the crown 60 seconds starts when you push back in
How heavy is this watch?
The Yema watches I see are all over$1000....what am I missing???
You must be looking at their Mechanical line up, this would fall under their Meca Quartz selection
Until APRIL 21, 2021 they are offering 15% off AND a free Tropic Rubber Strap to accompany the stock Mesh Metal Bracelet. Good bargain IMO.
Watch makers should just remove the day date for a much cleaner look. This is more truer now since we all carry smartphones now.
Remove the date because we have smartphones? Well with that logic why do you need a watch at all?
A watch is good not only for its appearance or history, now the most important thing is the service, and this company, I say this from my own experience, has a disastrous service
Its a VK64 you can take it anywhere to service it!
Sapphire is better in every way and should be standard at that price.
I prefer sapphire but it's not better in clarity, resistance to reflectivity, shatter resistance, or cost
Stop shaking the watch when you talk.
If they would take away those racing flags on the dial.......
I really like the design but the brand name keeps me off it, I speak Spanish and yema in Spanish means yolk, soo yeah thats not cool at all
in japanese it means "untamed wild horse". are you satisfied? if we had to chose a name because of all the different meanings in all the languages, nobody would end up with a name. don't be stupid man. if you like it, just buy it.
In Indian mythology - Yema is God of Death
In Filipino Yema is a sweet custard candy.
@@JayB-lz6yd イエマ in Japanese literally dose not mean anything, however 野馬 means "untamed wild horse" in CHINESE. You sure you speak Japanese?
@@cedricduyongco ,,,,my Asawa makes them All the Time!,,,,always have to have a Good supply of sweetened Carnation's "Evap",. in the House!
