With A-9 vs AA with 4 over cards (10-J-Q-K) the best you get is a chop. With A-8 you can have 4 over cards in secession(9-10-J-Q) and win the hand. Low percentage difference but makes the A-8, A-7, A-6 slightly more favorable than A-9
+Metroidvania1981 the other reason being you cannot run out to Broadway because the TJQK would give them both a straight meaning he cannot win. if he had A2-A8 he could make a lower straight
+Marshall Adams A9, A8, A7, A6 are the only Ace combos that can not make a 2 card straight. With A9, one straight combo (10JQK) is counterfeited by the Ace so therefore A9 is marginally worse than A8,A7,A6. A10 plays best among the Ace combos vs Aces. You are welcome for the "fun fact buddy" :)

I think A8 has one or two more straight possibilities
