Awesome job Jason! Such a difference from the bright blue wheeled original. Being from the USA i totally forgot about Sterling . Awesome history lesson as well
Great restomod!!! It looks way better than the original multi colored car. I love the realistic look of the car and the rims and wheels. I have the silver one with the conventional livery and the white Rover Sterling on the blue lower panels on the doors in mint condition
Absolutely beautiful and of course so well narated, on your vids I like the anticipation of the build, and theres no skipping to the good parts, It's all damn good
Nice job and work on this one buddy. I’d believe that any resto you do on any make or brand would turn out pretty awesome just like this one. Keep these amazing builds coming
This and the XJ6 casting were my favourites despite both being dull from a toy perspectve. My Dad had an XJ6 and after that a Rover 800 fastback, so I loved them both.
Matchbox had some serious mundane-bangers in the 80s/90s . This, the Sierra XR4i, Astra, and even the Cavalier and Calibra in the 90s.. Then you had all the Tahoes, Expeditions, Grand Cherokees, and various pickups from the states. The Matchbox Gold and Matchbox Collectors lines are seriously underrated. I need to get this casting, and would totally be down for a “C*** P*** Partridge” Sterling custom.. I know he has an 800 but it would work!
I have this casting, but in proper colours (dark red), I really like it. Amazing what a difference painting the rear lights has done for yours, I might have to give that a go myself.
This transformation was certainly necessary. You transformed this car from an antique and unwanted toy to something stunning, even with its simple premise. Keep it up!
Fantastic Restoration. I remember seeing a British Racing Green one at a toy fair some years ago (Custom Resto) & should of brought it. Sadly never seen another one in that colour since. Would love to see one been done in that colour if you can. Cheers.
Actually, I like the “dull” realistic version since that’s what the goal was for Matchbox, at least that’s what I’d to think it was…. Great job dulling it down LOL!
@@DieCastRestos Here in the states I remember all the cash grabs at mimicking high end or mid price luxury. My fondest memories were the attempts at re badges and re bodied crap.
I used to but I realised (after a bunch of viewers told me!) it looked awful on some less well cast lines as it had such a tendency to spread. I’ve never used the Tamiya panel line wash but I suspect it’d be similar. Now I only use the Citadel to run over lighting features and as a black wheel wash in restorations
I too hated the cartoon-style toy cars as a kid. I especially hated the Matchbox Mini-Ha-Ha, with it's silly proportions and oversized helmet sticking out of the roof of the car. Horrifying. The 5-year old me even condemned it to be thoroughly crushed (or mercy-killed, as I then saw it ) with a rock... This Rover looked excellent in it's new mid-level executive look. Spot-on!
I believe that use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) as well as laser cameras (first Rover to go through this process) was a big part of the Rover 800 /Sterling development and I'm sure I remember reading that the data was shared with Matchbox. Hence why the diecast model is very well detailed for its scale and original price point. The engine layout/design on the bonnet of the before model is not to accurate to the real car. There is no big airbox on top and it's a horizontal not longitudinal engine set up. However battery, coil and fluid bottle locations are similar if not simplified for the children it was made for.
WAY better. Even as a child, I preferred castings of vehicles I would see in real life. Not much of a fan of “fantasy“ castings, engines sticking 9 miles out of the hood, or ridiculous paint/tampo schemes. I guess I’m just boring 🤣
realistic is better. well, everything is better than that overcoloured livery... I used to dislike blue headlights and green taillights as a kid, myself and as soon as I felt confident I bought some modelers' paints and went over my collection. XD nice shade of blue there. wheels look proper, too. I'll lookout if I can't find the all-yellow one, yellow should work well, too. maybe with red interior? or better, black.
Ugh.. fine. I guess this is a new genre of UA-cam I'll be addicted to now. Subscribed. I too as a child preferred more realistic mundane models over outlandish over the top cars. I had a model of a beige 97' Camry as a kid and I absolutely loved it
Just needs a 1:64 tin of travel sweets to complete it. Super restoration and detailing!
Oh and don't forget the Werthers Originals, a National Trust sticker, a flat cap and a walking stick 😂
When everyone try to making a stock car to be cool modified models, I really enjoy how you do make diecasts back to the stock ❤ well done!
I was a realism fan as a kid too. Really nice job on this one. As always... 😊👍👍
Great color realisticly looking, also love the wheels. It looks like a car from 1980's
Awesome job Jason! Such a difference from the bright blue wheeled original. Being from the USA i totally forgot about Sterling . Awesome history lesson as well

Actually owned one of those cars when I was about 25. It was so luxurious inside it even had reclining rear seats.
Having that level of luxury at 25 must have been something else. Have to say I’m a bit envious! 😅
Good to see you tackle this one. I've done a few myself, a very satisfying model.
Absolutely beautiful and of course so well narated, on your vids I like the anticipation of the build, and theres no skipping to the good parts,
It's all damn good
Thank you, that’s really kind of you to say!
Your version looks SO REALISTIC! Nicely done, man!
That looks absolutely fantastic !
Especially considering how awful it started.
The wheels are an astonishingly accurate choice 😎👍🏻
A very successful transformation. The model looks much better 👍
Nice job and work on this one buddy. I’d believe that any resto you do on any make or brand would turn out pretty awesome just like this one. Keep these amazing builds coming
Awesome resto. It looks so modern now.
Very nice custom build from the original scrap to a beautiful family car.
Nice one Jason. My sentiments as well. Always thought that this casting was very well assembled. Turned out sweet. Keep er lit ya boy ye
This and the XJ6 casting were my favourites despite both being dull from a toy perspectve. My Dad had an XJ6 and after that a Rover 800 fastback, so I loved them both.
Total transformation, great custom to give it a real world look Jason.
Super nice job! Reminds me of my teenage years. Although dreary in the 70s/80s it quite colorful compared to the selection of many cars of today.
Oh wow. Such an improvement! What a beautiful car! I don't recall seeing any here in Québec back in the days.
Wow this looks really cool in a 1980s vibe kinda way! Like you say, a top quality casting, probably built better than the real car!
Nice resto! I especially love the work on the headlights. They really pop, almost like a tampo.

Thats quite a transformation looks incredible
That's brilliant! Superb job.
Nice restoration, details and paint job 👌 👍
Nice work. That looks so Rover now. Next up, get the Sharpie out for Cook Pass Babtridge!
I have this casting, but in proper colours (dark red), I really like it.
Amazing what a difference painting the rear lights has done for yours, I might have to give that a go myself.
Ditto. I also have it in red.
I have that crazy color scheme car and now have an idea for my daily driver!
Awesome custom build
This video and project are sublime. Well done!
Great improvement Jason. It's looking a lot more executive than the toddler tampo version.
Good custom realistic car Jason greeting from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Amazing transformation Jason!
Congrats! It looks simply amazing!
Very nice, the blue wheels and tampos looked horrible, but you brought it back to its glory
Thanks for actually making diecast toy cars better and not just making them straight up ugly
Melhorou 1000%!!! De cara de brinquedo a um modelo decente e à semelhança do modelo original. Parabéns!!!
Great model and a brilliant job, thank You for sharing! 🤗👍👌💯👏👏
Que gran trabajo!! Has convertido un simple juguete en un modelo digno de poner en una vitrina. En hora buena 👏👏👏🇪🇸
Great restoration
Another top job.. I had a pale blue mk1 820 hatch long ago..
Your works are awesome man, great work!

Shoot me an email (address is in the description) and I can do you a custom one!
This is just glorious!
First time channel watcher here .. loved this! I took like to dull down loud cars from time to time. Realism rules👍
Nice, thanks for watching!
I have the maroon version of this somewhere from when I was a boy, this brings back many very happy memories 😁😁
Well if that bad boy was full sized I would absolutely daily drive a beauty like that!
I remember having that car when i was kid loved it.
I love modifying HotWheels and Matchbox cars. I've done a few myself. It's a lot of fun.
Actually, I like the “dull” realistic version since that’s what the goal was for Matchbox, at least that’s what I’d to think it was….
Great job dulling it down
LOL!
You won me over with the comment "I wanted it to embody the bottom of the executive line" 😂
A poor man’s 7 series if you will!
@@DieCastRestos Here in the states I remember all the cash grabs at mimicking high end or mid price luxury. My fondest memories were the attempts at re badges and re bodied crap.
Now I need to see someone take a real Rover Sterling and create an accurate ‘My First Matchbox’ version.
Huge improvement
This car would look great in a 90ies themed diorama
Great job
Great job 👍🏻
Brilliant!
Brilliant! 👏
Very nice, more of the same please 👍
It came out amazing. Love unrealistic diecasts being made to look real.
The original colour scheme of blue with yellow and red stripes make it look like the Peter Jackson EB falcon V8 Supercars
Excellent!!!
I still got the one in its original paint😊
Brilliant
From 80s Acid House car to the boring 😴 looking car that I remember it as .
Good Video.
Great video
Great history lesson as well. Is the Null Oil a wash for panel lines? How does it look over a Tamiya panel line wash?
I used to but I realised (after a bunch of viewers told me!) it looked awful on some less well cast lines as it had such a tendency to spread. I’ve never used the Tamiya panel line wash but I suspect it’d be similar. Now I only use the Citadel to run over lighting features and as a black wheel wash in restorations
I restored a red one of these rovers and painted it a dull gold
All hail the dull shades 🙌🏻
wow wow wow

MARVELING
I had the dark gray maroon version
👍 Thx 🇧🇪.

Interesting that Rover shared the data with Matchbox, I certainly did not know that!
nice
Still pushing for a 1/18th scale custom from you
Bellissima ❤
What's much better than that that ugly car you started with I like it a lot keep up the good work have a good one and God bless my friends
