Lovely, some crucial basic stuff. In addition, not plugging under the strap may end up ruining the guitar or the calble head as it may not get pulled straight out but rather at an angle that would bend and crook the thing.
When i play with a stratocaster(or anything that has a big scratchboard) i usually put my picks under the scratchboard u know on the top left corner of the scratchboard. There it is close to my right hand and easy to pick them up from there.
Done the pedal error - went for the delay and hit the tuner (only 3 pedals to choose from) - tumbleweed !!! - only ever dropped a pick once - Pinball Wizard and the only lyric I had to sing was the "I don't know" bit - guess when I dropped the pick - the switch off when not playing is great advice and I must try and get into that habit.
Is there a reason you don't use a tension spring on your tremolo arm? For anybody who's tired of the swinging arm, you buy the spring (I believe mine was $6 for a dozen), place a glob of vaseline down in the hole where you screw in the trem arm , push the spring down in there (that way it will stay until you fish it out with a toothpick or something) then screw the arm in. It will stay in place and not require you to twist until it's tight.
I remember that I went to rehearsal of a local band 3 years ago. I sat in a chair and watched everyone setting up their gear and then, I looked at the guitarist and he did that "cable under the strap" trick. I was like: "OOOhhhh, THAT is knowledge to carry for my entire life!". It's nice to watch more experienced people work and learn those things.
When you talked about "heavy hands" I automatically thought about myself. I use a strat but when I'm just shredding or playing away the pick up selector gets in the way somehow. For me if it was forward on the guitar or above the pickguard like a Les Paul would be perfect. I love the Strat but there are some things I would change. The cutaway was one (to be more cut) and the back plate of the guitar should be like in an Ibanez cause it gets in the way xD
Without wanting to come across as a total geek: I'm just learning the intricacies of pedal-board layout and wondered why you have your tuner behind the wah or volume-pedal ?
Really useful tips Sam, nice to hear that even a pro makes mistakes from time to time ;-) like you said, we've all done it, it's about minimising the risk of something going wrong.
I notice all of your Floyd rose guitars don't have the routed access. I love that looks but I'm curious the playing difference between that and the fully routed Floyd rose body
Sam, good stuff. You don't come off like you're trying to show off the things you know that the audience doesn't. The little fashion show with the guitar collection is forgivable. ()8^P3
For you Les Paul players in regards to the volume situation, i use for a majority of the time one pick up so what i do is turn one pick up off and instead of winding the volume down, a quick switch to the pickup thats off does the trick ;D
I was just looking at something like that a little earlier today. It was made in the 80's back before youtube and you didn't have to listen to it, you could manually control the speed that the images changed so the information was always coming at the exact pace you wanted, and could read the text at whatever speed you wanted as well. It was called a book. ;P
I like the treble position for lead. I use the 1st position for acoustic playing.
Most people prefer that I keep volume off while I play.
Paul Lue haha! Love it!
awesome video brother
Robert Baker why do you watched this video? Youre an awsome guitar player ;)

Very practical! Always a pleasure to visit with Sam!
I don't have a problem hitting the selector switch my problem is hitting the volume knob.
Anyone know what that les paul on the left is? (Brand and model) its awesome
Except from being a great guitar player I love the eloquent and articulate use of the English language by Sam. Well done mate!

Great tips and you are a very humble person, subbed.
If you play out a lot consider marking one end of your guitar cable, since that end takes the most wear and will need to be repaired eventually.
Thanks for the tips, common sense, maybe, being a newer player these are things I never thought about.
Which floating bridge is the one that is in the strat on 6:04 ?
did you install floyd rose on your strats, or did it came out with one?
excellent points that are not always adhered to and can only help a player. good vid
We miss your videos dude.... gj :D

nice strat guitar show, too!
what kind of strats are they?Fender Custom Shop?

Thanks so much Sam!
great video do you own any telecasters? I would love to see you tear it up on one of those!
cool guy, nice advices,!
Great video Sam.
I always do these things haha, but nice video!
I gotta go practice now
i put the picks beneath the pickguard and the wood
You can always leave the guitar at full volume even when not playing when your genre is grunge
Good vid Sam!
Kiana =)
'Karate-chopped quiet!' - thanks Sam, useful tips for newb like me
i stick my extra picks in the pickguard
This video makes me want to buy a Strat with a Floyd.
Show us the pedal blues you diddddd
Keep touching your knob and don't pull out. Got it!
What part of England are you from, that accent sounds familiar.
The only thing this video needs are more guitars. Seriously though, good tips.

1 trick to be a better guitarist
trick number 1
there is no trick
I want to be like you.
I don't know why you are having a go at Belethor, seemed to me like he made a complimentary comment!
Phil Angus Belethor is a Skyrim character who tells you, "I'd even sell one of my relatives if I could" in the game.
For you Les Paul players in regards to the volume situation, i use for a majority of the time one pick up so what i do is turn one pick up off and instead of winding the volume down, a quick switch to the pickup thats off does the trick ;D
*which does the trick
you definitely like catfish and the bottlemen
Fucking hell dude, how guitars do you have? lol
You sound like Neil from the young ones
are you calling him a stupid hippy? :-)
Indeed :)
None of these actually had anything to do with how to actually play the guitar better.
The title is how to be overall a better guitarist not how to play guitar better. These tips helped me!
+Wombat Sceptre Most likely because there are no actual tricks to play the guitar better.
Just practiice.
I would prefer he just put text up on the screen rather than talk lol

stop stealing my name
jibberish!
I'll never get those 8 minutes of my life back. Thumbs down
