I'm 59 now, and made a number of exhaust systems for all manner of race cars with good results and plenty of praise for my work... but watching that was humbling. Now I have a new standard to work to. Thank You.
Very nice work of art sir! Your creativity at doing things simple is astonishing (as your system to hold the flanges in the vertical drill or the wheighted pointer to hold the flange on the table during sondering)! Hope you the best my friend! Cheers from Italy!
Great video I really like the jigs,i made a jig for somthink I make it took me 3 years and I'm still tweaking it , brilliant work ,every days a school day as a great man once said,I would love to work along side you ,they say the next step from perfection is madness I recon I'm close lol
how did you prevent the flanges from warping? usually i have to bolt the flange to a aluminum heatsink. very nice work. even drawing on the band saw for a reference so simple yet effective. never thought of that before.
Good question, and the truth is, you can't stop it entirely. If you watch closely you will see me do the fillet weld first and then immediately flip it over and weld the inside of the flange, this counteracts the heat pulling from the first weld and to some extent balances it out. You will always need to flatten the face on the belt sander, it's just a matter of minimising the amount of material you need to remove to achieve it. Thanks for the comment.👍
How many ton is that arbor press? I need to pick one up. For forming these tubes, do you feel like the size you have is overkill or just enough? I was looking at a 3 ton and a 5 ton. The physical differences are pretty big between them.
Yes that's right, but only on the inside of the flange, just use the pulse settings on the machine. Always need filler wire on the outside fillet weld.👍

This is a number 3 Fly-press, so I think about 3 ton capacity 👍
@LANCETHEGASS awesome! I appreciate it!
I didn’t see you using a rod when you were welding ?
