  • Pennsylvania Military College 1963 Alumnus Captain Lawrence Liss is awarded the Army Silver Star for heroism in combat. The ceremony took place on March 5, 2024 at the Valley Forge Military Academy and College in Wayne, Pennsylvania.

    CPT Liss paid great tribute during the ceremony to his co-pilot on the day of the action, Tom Baca, now deceased.
    Widener University President Stacey Robertson, VP & Chief of Staff Katie Herschede and ROTC Professor of Military Science LTC James Pascoe represented CPT Liss’s alma mater at the ceremony, along with Larry Liss’s brother 1LT Art Liss, PMC ‘67. Pennsylvania Military College became Widener College in 1972 and later Widener University. The Army ROTC program remains based at Widener, in association with other area universities under the name “The Dauntless Battalion.”

    The Silver Star was presented to CPT Liss by General Daniel Hokanson, 29th Chief of the National Guard Bureau. The award presentation was preceded with remarks by Pennsylvania Congressman Chrissy Houlahan who also read the award text during the ceremony.
